Our world is at a critical juncture
Future advances in global integration, poverty reduction,
protection of our planet and, ultimately, peace critically
depend on our ability to collectively address the most
pressing global challenges. Accelerating the practice of
corporate sustainability and responsibility is an urgent task
in these complex times, when crises – from financial
market break downs to environmental degradation – are
increasingly global and connected. The stakes could not be
higher, given that climate change threatens the security of
food, water and energy – the interlocking resource pillars
which underpin prosperity and the productivity of the
economy. Putting long-term sustainability, comprehensive
risk management and ethics at the top of the corporate
agenda must be a priority for business everywhere.
Building a new era of sustainability
The UN Global Compact Leaders Summit 2010 will provide
the platform for business to convene, collaborate and
commit to building a new era of sustainability. At the
Summit, business leaders will tackle priority areas that are
central to corporate leadership today and essential for the
transformation to sustainable markets – and ultimately the
protection of our planet and the livelihoods of future
generations:
• Comprehensively integrating principles into business
strategy, operations and governance
• Connecting sustainability issues and actions
• Tackling climate change and the Millennium
Development Goals
• Scaling up collective action and public-private
partnerships
• Building support for effective global frameworks.
• Leveraging investors and educators as ESG
(environmental, social, governance) change agents
Marking the 10th anniversary of the UN Global Compact’s
launch, the Leaders Summit 2010 will highlight milestones,
champions and best practices which have helped to advance
the corporate responsibility agenda and contributed to UN
goals – making the UN Global Compact the world’s largest
corporate citizenship initiative with 7,000 signatories in 135
countries.
While the global context and rationale for corporate
responsibility has shifted since launching the UN Global
Compact in 2000, the vision remains the same: for
companies everywhere to integrate universal principles into
their strategies, operations and culture, thereby having a
profound effect on United Nations goals, particularly the
Millennium Development Goals.

Sponsorship Opportunities
Only through generous financial sponsorship will it be
possible for the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit 2010 to
bring together leaders from across the globe to address
pressing sustainability issues and showcase best practices,
with the goal of accelerating wider adoption of universal
principles by business.
Sponsorship opportunities are open to companies with a
commitment to sustainable and responsible practices through
the UN Global Compact.1 Specifically, all Leaders Summit
sponsors must have consistently completed an annual
Communication on Progress (COP), or other similar reporting
mechanism if a COP deadline has not yet passed, and have
demonstrated leadership in the UN Global Compact.
Sponsorship slots will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
Patron sponsorship offers companies the opportunity to
share knowledge and experiences in making tangible and
significant progress in embedding universal principles into
their organization’s strategies, operations and culture, as
well as engaging in public-private partnerships to advance
broad societal goals. Patron messages and examples of
relevant work will be featured in sponsorship
communications vehicles before and during the Leaders
Summit, for example on the Summit website and in the
participant booklet.
Greening - $100,000Number of openings: 1
The UN Global Compact Leaders Summit 2010 is being
organized as a fully responsible and sustainable event,
reinforcing the Ten Principles at all phases of Summit design
and execution, including with contractors. Working closely
with sustainable event experts MCI Group and the
environmental award-winning Marriott hotel group, the
event will be organized and externally certified following the
most robust process available, the BS8901 Sustainable Event
Management System. Additionally, all 1,500 Summit
participants will be encouraged to offset their CO2 emissions4
through the purchase of Gold Standard Certified Emission
Reductions and Gold Standard Verified Emission Reductions.
A portion of the Greening sponsor’s contribution may be
directed to cover emissions of organizations less able to pay.
Special requirement: The Greening sponsor must have demonstrated a proven commitment to tackling climate change and advancing
sustainability in their company – for example through engaging in Caring for Climate, reporting greenhouse gas emissions and strategic
climate change data to the Carbon Disclosure Project, or similar actions.
1 The UN Global Compact Office reserves the right to review and approve all interested sponsors, ensuring that any financial and content contributions uphold the integrity of the Leaders Summit and the UN Global Compact.
2 Large company defined as company with more than 250 employees.
3 SME defined as small- and medium-sized enterprises with less than 250 employees.
4 The travel of 1,500 participants to attend the Summit will produce approximately 3,000 tons of CO2 equivalents or 265 years of emissions for an average US household.
New for Patron Sponsors in 2010
The UN Global Compact Leaders Summit
2010 will offer opportunities for Patron

Founders Circle - $50,000
At the launch of the Global Compact on 26 July 2000, just
over 40 companies sent executives to UN Headquarters in
New York to publicly commit to a new United Nations
venture in the corporate responsibility realm. Their early
support and advocacy was essential for firmly establishing
the initiative and providing credibility at this critical start-up
phase. In conjunction with the Leaders Summit 2010, the
10th anniversary of the UN Global Compact will be
celebrated by all participants at a Gala Dinner on 24 June.
Central to the celebration will be a tribute to these founding
companies – recognizing their foresight, early dedication
and ongoing work to advance the principles of the UN
Global Compact. The Founders Circle will be the official
sponsor of this celebratory Gala Dinner.
Special requirement: Founders Circle sponsors must be among the 40+ companies that joined the UN Global Compact prior to or at the launch
on 26 July 2000.
