Our youth and children have grown in such faith in the last few months. They are like

little sponges and we are filling them as full as we can with faith. This month we focused on Mass and what it means to the kids to have a youth mass dedicated to them were they get to take part in every part of the Mass they can. They have owned Youth Mass and take great pride in getting to be a part

of a special mass for them. My hope when I started this was for them to learn to serve the church and love to serve the church. I am definitely seeing these fruits flourish. Thank you for all your prayers and support. God Bless, Jewel Etherington Director of Faith Formation &Youth Ministry

My favorite part of Youth Mass is getting to go up front and sing. I like to help with singing and carrying up the gifts because I am giving the gifts to God. It just makes me feel good to help out at Church. I think it is important for kids to go to Mass because it helps them learn about God and they get to learn how to be respectful to God and others. My favorite part of youth Mass is doing a job and getting to help out. My favorite thing to help with is singing and taking up the collection. When I help out a church it makes me feel good to help others and be a part of the Church. I think it is important for kids to go to Mass because the have to learn stuff and how to do the prayers.

Hayzle Ortega - Kindergarten

Ask Father JoseIn John 4:24 Jesus says, ‘God is Spirit’. In Exodus 3:14 Moses asked God his name; God said, ‘I am who am’ [Yahweh], I am who lives [Being]. Angels are spirits. God is neither male nor female. Gender [male, female] is a biological distinction. Our true identity according to bible is we are created in the image and likeness of God [Genesis 1:26]. Our first identity, common to all human persons, is ‘God’s image and likeness’, then comes the distinction boy/girl [male/female], which is implied in what God said: let us make man [man here is common humanity or human nature], male and female he created them.

Bible addresses God with male pronoun [he/him] and as Father and in some places as mother [Isaiah 66:13, God says: ‘As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you’]. Books of the bible were written in a predominantly patriarchal society. Man [male/he] implied both sexes. When Jesus, Word of God/Son of God became human, he had to choose male or female gender. In theory, God could have become a female! When we say God became man, better to understand that God assumed [took] human nature, became one like us. Incarnation means to become flesh [doesn’t speak in gender distinctions, Word became flesh].

Human language is limited to explain the mystery of God. Jesus called God Father [Father of Jesus Christ], in the sense God is foundation of life; Jesus is called the Son [Word] who is God and with God [John 1:1-5], Jesus said, I will pray the Father and he will send you the Spirit [John 14:16]; the Spirit is sometimes defined as the female character of God [affection, concern and compassion]. All these expressions are inadequate to define God but we know God is One and three persons [relations], how Jesus revealed God to us.

Kids Answers on Youth Mass

My favorite part of Mass is always communion and when its Youth Mass I like getting to receive

with my classmates. I like to help take up the gifts because it makes me feel proud because I

get to give something to God. It also makes me feel happy to help out at Church. I think it is

important to go to Mass to learn about God and its a good experience.

My favorite part of Youth Mass is doing communion and going up and singing is really fun. I like to help by doing collection and putting money in the basket. It makes me feel amazing because I am representing others and helping others with my donations, my help and my prayers. I think it is important for kids to go to Mass so they can learn more about God and grow up and show their kids who God is and how to love God.Morgan Cavan - 5th Grade
