Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL)Exposure to harmful noise sounds that are too loud or loud sounds that last a long time that damageWhat causes it? A one-time exposure to an intense impulse sound (explosion)Continuous exposure to loud sounds over time (repeated iPod use on max volume)Whos affected? EVERYONE Approximately 15 percent of Americans between the ages of 20 and 69or 26 million

22 million Americans have experienced permanent damage to their hearing from overexposure to loud noises during leisure activities.More than 30 million Americans are exposed to dangerous levels of noise on a regular basis. 72% of college students demonstrating a high degree of knowledge about NIHL reported that they never wore hearing protection.

Mp3 Player TipsPurchase HQ earbuds (noise-cancelling or sound-isolating block out background noise, so that you don't need to turn it up so loud)Not All HQ Earbuds/Headphones are expensiveTake regular breaks at least 5 minutes every couple hours to give you ears a restUse the Volume Limiter (stop turning the volume up without realizing it)Lastly, TURNING IT DOWN

Club, Festival, Concert, & Bar TipsUse earplugs specifically designed to listen to music (No sound muffles, just reduction in volume)Dont get to close to the speakersTake breaks use the rest area, sit down in the patio
