F - Fought in France in April 1917, the Battle of Vimy Ridge "awakened a sense of national identity in Canadians" which has been described as "the moment when Canada leapt in spirit from

colony to nation". Commemorating the centenary of Vimy Ridge, special event station TM100VIMY will be active on 1-9 April. RI1F - A large team will be active as RI1F from Victoriya Island (EU-190, new one for IOTA) in late September. They expect to depart on the 23rd, and to reach their destination after three or four days, depending on sea conditions. DXCC wise, this island is part of Franz Josef Land. S2 - S21ZED and S21ZEE (not S21GM and S21KW as previously announced) are the callsigns issued to the 14-26 March DXpedition to Bangladesh [425DXN 1346]: S21ZED will be used until 17.59 UTC on 19 March,

refrain from working the second callsign on the same bands and modes you have already worked the first one. Four stations will be active on 160-10 metres CW, SSB

VK - Craig, VK5CE has announced that he will be active as VK5CE/9 from Ashmore Reef (OC-216) for four days between 6 and 12 November, as well as from the Rowley Shoals (OC-230) for five days "the week before that". These island groups count for Australia DXCC wise, but were activated only once for IOTA, respectively in 1996 and 1999. Craig plans to operate SSB and "very slow CW" on 40, 30, 20, 17 and 15 metres. 221), which was scheduled for 24-26 March [425DXN 1340], has been cancelled owing to strong wind and bad weather conditions. Hopefully it will be rescheduled on 26-28 May. YJ - Chung, VA7YM will be active as YJ0YM from Efate (OC-035), Vanuatu on 6-17 April. He will operate SSB, RTTY and PSK31 on 80-6 metres. QSL via EA5GL and LoTW, logsearch on Club Log. Together the two main listings show growth of 8.4% over the same listings in 2016. 207 record-holders have scores of 1000 or more IOTA groups, an increase of 11.3%, and 552 have scores

RT9K/9 ● After reaching Dikson Island (AS-005), the RT9K/9 team had to abandon their plans for activation of other four IOTA groups in the Kara Sea (AS-054, AS-121, AS-104, AS-068), as ice conditions prevented them from going further. The Arctic "showed its severity and unpredictability", UA9OBA says. Another attempt should take place next year. While on Dikson Island (7-9 March), the team logged 764 QSOs. W9WNV: AN INTERVIEW ● "We are all powered by dreams of distant lands, rare DX, and the urge to compete and stand up at the podium. Those dreams are often inspired by those whom we admire and want to be on par with – or even more.

Don Miller, W9WNV, was once a DX hero and a CQWW Contest SOAB dual record holder (CW/SSB) but suddenly left the industry. On DXpeditions, Don was eagerly followed by most of the DXing world. Martti, OH2BH wanted to emulate his efforts a nd become of his kind. What did Don do to create this following? It was Christmas 2016 when Don Miller, W9WNV, and Martti Laine, OH2BH, Gathered at Martti's Finland home at his 70th anniversary party. This meeting brought back reminiscences of the days when our industry was still young and provided an interesting playing field for the evolution of our great DX passion. During this meeting in Finland, Don was caught on video talking about his earlier operations and his operating methods. Many aspects of how we operate now were
