Rotaractor of the Month March 2017 Rosemary Ruiz is a third year member of the Rotaract Club of Baker College of Muskegon. She is majoring in Criminal Justice and Corrections and, since joining the club, Rosemary has participated in a large variety

of volunteer opportunities. During March, Rosemary volunteered at Kids’ Food Basket, the Boys and Girls Club and also at our Build Your Burger event, making posters for the fundraiser. All of

her hard work contributed to her becoming our Rotaractor of the Month for March. When Rosemary is not volunteering with the Rotaract Club, she enjoys spending time with her adorable puppy Charlie! We are very excited to have her as a returning club member. Thank you for all

your hard work, Rosemary!

Time’s Runnin’ Short Careful readers of this 11-point type item – more so than casual readers – will recall our recent plea to bring your ClubRunner profile up-to-date (ie, fill in all the blanks correctly) before July, and make sure your facial photo makes you happy (if not, you have some 9-10 weeks to change it). We’ve received a number of new pics already, and will now share a few with you.

Bike Time Back Downtown Non Chronicle readers, reading this, are now learning that, after two years in Fruitport Twp, Bike Time is moving back to downtown Muskegon, July 13-16. Spokesman Tim “Heavy Metal Thunder” Lipan said that the 11th annual bike rally will be held largely at the Hot Rod Harley Davidson dealer, and he looks feverishly forward to telling us more at Club.

ONLY A WEEK AWAY

Rotary Night Out Muskegon Civic Theatre’s upcoming production of “Mary Poppins” just got a little more exciting thanks to Bob Scolnik, alias Admiral Boom. Newer

Rotarians may not know about Bob’s legendary Rotary Night Outs, but one’s coming up in coordin-

ation with the show. Briefly, it’s dinner “on your own” at the Holiday Inn just before the Saturday night (May 6) performance. Friends and “to be” friends will be there; Bob in gay repartee (from his Vaudeville days); and typically a menu special or two. So you know, none of the above quick announcement has Bob’s approval so you must contact him for verification, praise taking on the Boom character at his age, and to reserve your spot. That’s May 6, 6-ish, come in Mary-like gay apparel (old Easter Parade dress standard), fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-laaaa.

NEWS / ANNOUNCEMENTS –

PRESIDENT

President-Elect Cathy Brubaker-Clarke took over the gavel while President Josh was out of town.

Muskegon Rotary’s Care Committee sent a get-well card to District Governor-Elect Ed Swart for his back surgery. He was thankful for the thought.

Something special from Cathy: check out in May’s The Rotarian “Your Health Is at Risk.” Jonathan Patz explores the link you didn’t know existed between climate change and disease.

New RIM Reporter – Ammy Johnson was introduced (in fact, you are reading her words, as we speak).

NEWS / ANNOUNCEMENTS –

COMMITTEE MEMBERS,

GUESTS

Recent retiree Susan Holkeboer, above left, was introduced by sponsor Orville Crain on Thursday and inducted into membership by President-Nominee Cathy.

With Red Star Removal finally completed for Dakota Crow, above left, after a record-setting two+ years in limbo, sponsor Darlene Collet (rhymes with Chevrolet) didn’t know whether to cry or scream with joy. A hammer and chisel got the well-crusted star off Dakota’s badge, and all seemed right in the Rotary World again.

Bob Scolnik – Rotary Night Out – Saturday, May 6 – 6pm dinner at the Holiday Inn; 7:30pm “Mary Poppins” show at the Frauenthal. More at the top of this page.

MCC Rotaract – Volleyball game last weekend was a success, according to Club President Braxton Gerdes, and raised money to help end polio. When it was mentioned the goal was only $10 short, a $10 bill came floating up from the audience.

Dave Alexander must be quite the athlete, having played volleyball during the fundraiser, as proven on this RIM’s front page photo with everyone’s name listed but Dave’s. So we’re printing a “Sorry, Dave” retraction early here and offering him a spot on the RIM reporting team, that is, if he can claim any active journalism skills.

Grape Escape – October 4. Julia Koch, left, and Ginny Sprague are looking for GE Silent Auction items. Please contact them with goods, services or donations..

Visiting Rotarians & Guests Matt VanderVekle (Doug Wood); Ken Johnson (Orville Crain); K Coby and 9 AmeriCorps NCCC members (CLUB); Annie Rupert (Bob Rupert); Braxton Gerdes (John Noling); Robert Silvernail (Andrea Fearnley); Jamie Carey (Rob Huisingh); and Jane Shapka (Zabrina Santiago). Holton High School students visited the Club last week.
