Location

This group of 73 mining claims is located near Redstone River in the township of Eldorado, Porcupine Mining Division. A location map on a scale of 2 inches equal to one mile accompanies this report.

Object of Survey

The purpose of the magnetic survey was to locate and outline anomalies which could indicate the presence of ultrabasic rocks, such as peridotite, in areas of heavy overburden.

Geophys i c al Sur vey

The magnetic survey was carried out from a previously established base camp in Shaw Township. A helicopter was used for transportation.

A total of four men, employed by the Canadian Nickel Company Limited, conducted a program of base line cutting, chaining, and magnetometer survey during the months of February and March, 1970. Cross lines were cut and chained by contractor Jean Alix of Val d'Or, Quebec. The work was done under supervision of P. E. Lane, M.Se., whose permanent address is c/o Canadian Nickel Company Limited, Copper Cliff, Ontario.

A line spacing of 400 feet and reading interval of 50 feet were used generally throughout the survey. To check for magnetic variations and diurnal drift, three base stations were established one at the base camp, one at 00/16E and one at 00/88E.

Results of Survey

The results of the magnetic survey are shown on the accompanying maps which are on a scale of l" ** 200 feet. Magnetic readings are plotted in gammas and are relative to an arbitrary base of 1,170 gammas established at 00/16E co-ordinate. For simplification the last digit of each reading has been omitted. A contour interval of 200 gammas has been selected.

The magnetic survey outlined a few east-vest and a few northeast-southwest trending magnetic anomalies. The east-west magnetic anomalies are attributed to peridotite bodies while the northeast-southwest are attributed to diabase dikes. Further geological work is proposed, along with an electromagnetic survey to check the conductivity of the magnetic anomalies.
