Monterey is pleased to announce the

They bring knowledge, passion, and
creativity to our preschool program.
Our new director is Kaci Scott.
Kaci is married to Kodi and has two
four-year-olds, Laney and Mason. They have been members at Monterey for a
year and a half. Kaci has a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer
Sciences and a masters degree in Counselor Education, both from Texas Tech
University.
Erin Drumright and Kelsie McNeill will fill the positions of assistant directors.
Erin is married to Joey and has three kids, Zoe, Sophie, and Malcom. They have
been members at Monterey for 9 years. Erin has a master’s degree in Social
Work and was a youth minister in Atlanta Georgia for three years. Kelsie is

Living In Two Worlds!
This morning, we will conclude the Living the Psalms series as we explore what
is likely the best-known Psalm, the Psalm which begins with those great words,
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want… (Psalm 23:1).
Beginning next Sunday, I plan to preach three series of sermons that will carry
us through November with many of those sermons being drawn from texts in the
Book of Revelation. The challenge of living in a world filled with questions
about God, a world filled with evil and suffering, and a world with values that
often are so foreign to God’s desire for our lives is a challenge we face each day.
Here are the titles for the three series:
• Living In Two Worlds—four-week series begins August 4th.
• Looking For God—six-week series begins September 8th.
• Longing For Heaven—six-week series begins October 20th.
I love the way Gregory Stevenson describes the function of Revelation in his
book A Slaughtered Lamb: One function of Revelation’s narrative is to
encourage John’s audience to understand their place within the larger scheme,
to interpret the culture in which they live and the experiences they face in light of
God’s larger plan for His creation.
In that sense, Revelation’s primary focus is not the future but the present. John’s
emphasis on the future calls his 1st-Century audience, and those of us who live
in the 21st-Century world, to live life in the present marked by holiness and
faithfulness. My prayer is that these sermons will remind us of our mission as
the people of God—to be the presence of Jesus in our world in order to make an
eternal difference in our world.
