DESCRIPTION
I was contacted by Wilderness Trail Bikes inquiring if I’d like to test out a set of WTB Nano 40mm tires. One thing led to another and a long story short: I pitched the idea of building a bicycle for WTB’s 2014 Interbike booth space. The team at WTB were on board for the project and formulated their booth space accordingly. 4 bikes. 4 stories. WTB Product. All stoke. What follows is the visual tale of Will’s 27.5+ / 29+ 170mm Rohloff build taking shape. A record of the process, an assemblage of my methodology. This is not intended to be a visual “how to” of bicycle frame construction. It is a tale of a stoked client having their very first custom bicycle built.TRANSCRIPT

On a fall day in 1991, I walked into good ol’ T-Town Cycles in Trexlertown, PA on the hunt for my first mountain bike. I remember that day vividly: It had just rained, the new bike smell permeated the shop, glorious neon paint and bright anodized components sur-rounded me in all their glory. My father had driven me over (didn’t have my license yet...) and he was there in case my fist full of cash fell short. Which it did. But I ended up with a Trek Antelope 830, neon yellow with splattered black paint details. It was glorious and took me everywhere.
This brings us to a not too distant present date in 2014 when I was contacted by Will Ritchie at Wilderness Trail Bikes inquiring if I’d like to test out a set of WTB Nano 40mm tires. One thing led to another and a long story short: I pitched the idea of building a bicycle for WTB’s 2014 Interbike booth space. Will along with the rest of the team at WTB were on board for the project and formulated their booth space accordingly. 4 bikes. 4 stories. WTB Product. All stoke.
What follows is the visual tale of Will’s 27.5+ / 29+ 170mm Rohloff build taking shape. A record of the process, an assemblage of my methodology. This is not intended to be a visual “how to” of bicycle frame construction. It is a tale of a stoked client having their very first custom bicycle built.
See you on the trail.
Kris,
Oh my God.
Thank you.
A million times, thank you.
That frame is so beautiful, I can’t even believe it. We’ve almost got it completely built up and it looks so good, it’s incredible. It truly feels unreal to me, I can’t get over it, I have such a hard time realizing, re-realizing, that thing, that beautiful bike almost complete looking so gorgeous… will be… is… mine. Crazy. I keep wandering back there, loitering, have to shoo myself back to continuing to round up Interbike headache madness.

A special thanks go to Will and the rest of the crew at Wilderness Trail Bikes for accepting my proposal of building a custom bicycle to feature some of their new 2014 product line. It is with great pleasure and honor that I built this bicycle for Will. I hope to see and read about all his future adventures that take shape once the dust has settled from 2014 Interbike. Enjoy it Will. You deserve it.
Also thanks to all of my OEM accounts for making this bicycle possible including Henry James / True Temper for tubing, Paragon Machine Works for fittings, ENVE Composites, Cane Creek, L.H. Thomson, Industry 9, Shimano, Quality Bicycle Products, and last but not least Jim and Garrett at Rev Limit Auto for their Powder Coat work. Without any of you, this project would not be possible and I look forward to many years of continued support for all of my bicycle needs.
