PARISH STAFF MASSES OF THE WEEK
What does it mean to be an active Catholic? Those seeking to celebrate Marriage, have children baptized, or have a letter signed to serve as sponsors for Confirmation or Baptism should be parishioners and active, practicing Catholics. To be considered active, one must have been registered in the parish for at least three months, attend Mass regularly, and be committed to a stewardship of time, talent, and treasure. We encourage all parishioners to become active in one of the parish organizations.
In a community as large as Our Lady of Hope, our most effective means of verifying active participation is through the use of parish offertory envelopes or electronic giving, such as Faith Direct. If you choose not to participate in the support of the parish, or are unable to contribute at this time, please note your prayerful support on your envelope and place it in the weekly offertory. We will then be aware of your continued participation, and you will not be noted as "inactive" on our parish roster.
PARISH INFORMATION
Baptism & Baptism Class: Baptisms are held on Sundays at 1:30 p.m. The baptism class for parents is held one Saturday a month at 11:00 a.m. Please call the Parish Secretary to pre-register for the next available class. Sacrament of Matrimony: In accordance with the regulations of the Bishop of Arlington, couples must contact a priest and begin preparation at least six months prior to the wedding. Parish registration and active participation for a minimum of three months is required before preparation may begin. Couples who are living together will be asked to live separately during the preparation time as living together before marriage is sinful and harmful to the future marriage.
First Communion: For Children: Generally, First Communion is received when a child is in second grade. Preparation for First Communion is a two year process, and students must complete both first and second grade classes before receiving Holy Communion. Please contact the Religious Education Office with questions. Sacramental Preparation for Adults (RCIA): Adults who wish to receive Baptism, First Communion, and/or Confirmation are invited to attend the Inquiry Class on Thursday evenings. Please contact the Parish Secretary or visit the website to register.
PREPARING FOR SACRAMENTS
The Knights of Columbus Family of the Month for the month of September is the Parish Office Staff. The parish staff mem-bers are a closely knit “family” that continuously makes contributions to the success of the parish, parish school, and the par-ish community, as well as the Knights of Columbus. As a council, we realize and appreciate the value of the many talents and gifts that God has given them and how they benefit our work as Knights of Columbus. We are thankful and profoundly grate-ful for what Laurie Berstene, Pat Sabas, Jackie Regan, Alfonso Pena, Lisa Orosa, and Wilber Sarabia have done for our council & our parish through their tremendous support of our council for our many events and programs throughout the year. They have been instrumental providing aid, program promotion design and distribution support, youth volunteers, and other event resources. Their contributions to our council activities can be measured by our programs’ successes and the positive feed-back received from brother Knights and our parishioners. Thank you and congratulations to the Parish Office Staff!
The Knight of the Month for August is Bob Neiman. If you are looking for an example of an active Knight, you will find brother Bob Neiman’s name on the list of candidates. In addition to his Deputy Grand Knight duties, he is active in the PJPII Assembly as Admiral. Most recently, he coordinated and oversaw the council’s annual End of Summer BBQ, arranging set-up, food, re-freshments, and volunteers. He is a faithful member of the Catholic Charities food drive team, a mainstay on the early shift of the Parish Family Pancake Breakfast team, and an usher for the 5:00 p.m. Mass. He also helped with several recent Knight events including set-up/clean-up duties for Fr. Saunders’ farewell picnic, the COVID security team, and helping Fr. Killian move in to OLOH. Bob recently became a member of the proud grandfathers guild, welcoming his grandson and future Knight, Benjamin, into the Neiman clan. Bob shows a genuine compassion for his fellow Knights, ready to step in to help wherever he is needed. He exhibits strong Christian values by practicing the Catholic faith in his thoughts, deeds, and ac-tions. We are thankful and profoundly grateful for Bob’s actions and contributions to our council and our parish.
PEOPLE IN THE PEWS
In 1991 the Diocese of Arlington adopted the parishes of Bánica & Pedro Santana in the Domin-ican Republic. These parishes serve over 13,000 faithful in 60+ rural communities by evangeliz-ing to the community, administering sacraments, providing basic needs of food, shelter & cloth-ing, training & supporting catechists, educating the youth, running the day-to-day operations of
their parish, and managing several family and student focused programs. Our September 26/27th Second Collection will support the mission in Bánica. Please prayerfully consider supporting our mission communities through this collection.

PARISH OUTREACH
What we do: From meal delivery to rides to Mass, our Par-ish Outreach ministry is a way for us to support each other as a parish family. We're looking to expand the ways we can help--if you have a skill that doesn't quite fit any of the traditional ministry boxes, we'd love to hear from you!
Who we serve: Anyone who needs a helping hand: families who just welcomed a baby, families grieving the loss of a loved one, senior parishioners who need a little help with transportation or errands, etc.
What to expect: You'll receive an email when a need aris-es, and sign up as you are able. Best of all, there are no meetings to attend!

VOCATIONS LIASON
What we do: The vocation liaison works with the pastor to build a culture of vocations with in the parish
Who we serve: This ministry serves not just our parish, but the future of the Church!
What to expect: You'll coordinate with the diocesan Office of Vocations and various parish organizations to increase awareness of vocations, and promote various programs and activities that foster priestly and religious vocations.

What we do: This tech-saavy team helps manage our so-cial media profiles, develops content, and some other stuff.
Who we serve: We keep parishioners connected, but this is also an evangelical ministry, as we strive to spread the Gospel using the latest technology.
What to expect: The Social Media group will work together to create a more dynamic online presence. We're looking for people who are comfortable with various social media platforms, or have experience in podcasting, video pro-duction, or graphic design.

Jesus told his disciples this parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage, he sent them into his vine-yard. Going out about nine o’clock, the landowner saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and he said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard, and I will give you what is just.’ So they went off. And he went out again around noon, and around three o’clock, and did like-wise. Going out about five o’clock, the landowner found others standing around, and said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ They answered, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You too go into my vineyard.’ When it was evening the owner of the vine-yard said to his foreman, ‘Summon the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and ending with the first.’ When those who had started about five o’clock came, each received the usual daily wage. So when the first came, they thought that they would re-ceive more, but each of them also got the usual wage. And on receiving it they grumbled against the landowner, saying, ‘These last ones worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who bore the day’s burden and the heat.’ He said to one of them in reply, ‘My friend, I am not cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same as you? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?’ Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
