CONFERENCESHOST CHURCHCELEBRATING YOUR CHURCH HISTORYChurches can benefit from celebrations and commemorations of historical events. This class will look at all that can be included in a celebration, including outlines for basic to comprehensive celebrations. We’ll cover the basics for church histories, historical markers, promotional ideas, oral histories, and more. CHURCH HISTORY PROJECTSExplore, in more detail, unique projects to help promote church history. Learn more details about oral histories, time capsules, historical calendars, books of remembrance, and more.

CONCOURSE Q&AAn open Q&A time to ask about various features of Concourse that will help your library minister to individuals and groups that use it.

DEWEY FOR THE EXPERTSThis conference is specifically designed for librarians who have experience in classifying and subject cataloging. Unravel the mystery of the Dewey numbers and the Sears subject headings in order to have correct placement.

DISCIPLE MAKING CENTERSMany church library ministries are taking steps to focus and support “disciple making” and are finding ways to be the “center” of the action. Let’s look at ideas and examples, then brainstorm how we can be involved in reaching the lost, supporting leaders, teachers, missions, individuals, and groups in disciple making.

DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR TEENS ARE?We’ll share some ideas to help connect with

teens, have an impact on their lives, and set up a teen library.

HOW DOES MEDIA GET CHOSEN?Books, audio books, DVDs, kits: all of these items provide great opportunities to share God’s love with your church family. This session will provide reasons for selection policies along with a few sources and ideas for purchases.

POLICIES FOR THE LIBRARYEstablishing policies for your library will give it direction for a successful ministry. We will consider policies needed immediately and others for future needs.

PROMOTION: ACTIVITIES Dare to go beyond promotion using print! This class will have tons of ideas for your library patrons to become INVOLVED.

RESEARCHING & WRITING A CHURCH HISTORYThe idea of writing a church history can be overwhelming. This class will help in planning and research; locating resources in your church, your public library, and other archives; selecting a writer; and other details to consider.

TEAM BUILDINGEach team member is unique. Issues will be considered to help each one find their place to minister within the library.

THE CHURCH ARCHIVE & MBHCWondering where to start when preserving your church history? Church history is more than meeting minutes and membership lists. Find out what items you should be collecting and saving, and how to preserve those items for future generations.

THE CHURCH LIBRARY IN THE DIGITAL AGE AND SOCIAL MEDIAIt is easy to become insulated and comfortable in a cozy church library cocoon. We will look at global trends (ex. communication through social media, technology, storage, availability of data, maker movement, the aging population, etc.) that might impact what we do and how we do it. We will develop strategies to remain relevant in a changing world in our unique situations while still being true to our calling to provide TRUTH and equip patrons for the future.

WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE SHELVING?Making purchases of media -- books, audio books, DVDs, multi-media kits, die cut materials -- creates opportunities to devise a system for processing or preparing items for circulation. But don’t panic! Fortunately, many of these decisions have been made for you! Come and see!

WHERE DO I BEGIN?Starting a library or beginning the library team experience can generate a lot of questions! Where do I begin? Who will help me? How do I find supplies? Ask your questions! Answers available here!

WHO CHOOSES THOSE NUMBERS?Let’s take a brief look at the Dewey Decimal System and Sears Subject Headings, including where to get help with finding that information! Discover why every member of the library team should be familiar with “Dewey and Sears” and know how the library is arranged as well as how to show others where items are located.
