SHARE THE HOPE The readings for today’s celebration of the Ascension of the Lord once again remind us that as Christians we are people of hope. In the second reading Saint Paul eloquently exhorts the Ephesians to enlighten their hearts so that they will know the hope and glory that come from being people who place their trust in the Lord Jesus. In the story of the Ascension, recounted in the first reading, the Lord Jesus assures the disciples that the Holy Spirit’s power will come upon them. Finally, in the Gospel, the Lord lets the disciples know that their mission is to spread the hope of the gospel to all the nations. This wonderful feast keeps our eyes focused on the hope in which we were grounded on the day of our baptism. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
COMPARTE LA ESPERANZA Las lecturas de hoy para la celebración de la Ascensión del Señor una vez más nos recuerdan que los cristianos somos pueblo de esperanza. En la segunda lectura, san Pablo con elo-cuencia exhorta a los efe-sios a iluminar su mente para que puedan conocer la esperanza y la gloria que vienen de ser personas que ponen su confíanza en el Señor Jesús. En el relato de la Ascensión, narrado en la primera lectura, el Señor Jesús asegura a los discípu-los que el poder del Espíritu Santo vendrá sobre ellos. Finalmente, en el Evange-lio, el Señor da a conocer a los discípulos que su misión es proclamar el Evangelio a todas las naciones. Fathers’ Day Novena In celebration of Fathers’ Day, we will have a Novena of Masses. The series of 9 Masses will begin with the Anticipated Mass of Sunday at 5 PM on Saturday, 17 June and include every Mass on Sunday, 18 June (Fathers’ Day), through the daily Mass of Thursday, 22 June.
Beginning next weekend, you can enroll your father, father-in-law, grandfather (living or de-ceased) in the novena simply by writing his/their name(s) on the novena envelope (included in the donation envelope packet, as well as available on the table in the vestibule), and submitting the envelope with your contribution to the parish in the regular collection or bringing it to the Parish Office. Final turn in time is the 8:00 AM Mass on Satur-day, 17 June.

Memorial Day In observance of this national holiday, the parish of-fices will be closed on Monday, 29 May. However, the regular 8:00 AM Daily Mass will be celebrated as usual. The offices will re-open on Tuesday, 30 May.
Masses will be celebrated at both of the Dio-cese of Tucson Catholic Cemeteries at 8:30 AM(Holy Hope, 3555 N. Oracle Rd.; 888-0860 and Our Lady of the Desert in All Faiths Cemetery, 2151 S. Avenida Los Reyes; 885-9173). All are welcome.

God’s Heroes Support St. Cyril’s Los héroes de Dios ayudan a su parroquia
Bishop to Certify Parishioner as Lay Ecclesial Minister
This June marks the end of the diocese’s current Common Formation Program – a 4-year adult faith formation process preparing men and women to serve as Lay Ecclesial Ministers and men to serve as Permanent Deacons. Two parishioners have participated in this program this time. Steve Legendre for certification as a Lay Ecclesial Minister and Niyibizi Shukurani as a Deacon.
The Common Formation Program is intended to address the four areas of formation for ministry required by the US Conference of Catholic Bish-ops. These areas of formation are the Human, Spiritual, Intellectual, and Pastoral. Sessions are presented by local experts in Catholic theology, practice, and experience.
As a part of this program, candidates for certifi-cation as a Lay Ecclesial Minister must develop a pastoral project. Steve Legendre has developed a Post Cana Marriage Enrichment program designed for couples in their first three years of marriage. He also participated in a Spiritual Directors program during this time and has been cer-tified as a Spiritual Director. He is available to anyone who would like to be guided by a Spiritual Director. You can con-tact him through the Parish Office.
On Sunday, 4 June, Bishop Kicanas will preside at the cere-mony in which Steve will be certified as a Lay Ecclesial Minis-ter. Congratulations, Steve!
Later in June, Bishop Kicanas will be ordaining Niyibizi Shukurani of our African Community as a Permanent Deacon. More on this in an upcoming bulletin.
El Obispo certificara a parroquiano Como Ministro Laico Eclesiástico
Este junio marca el fin de programa actual de Formación Común de la Diócesis – un proceso de 4 años de formación de fe para adultos que prepara a hombres y mujeres para ejercer como Ministros Laicos Ecle-siásticos y a hombres para ejercer como Diáconos Permanentes. Dos parroquianos participaron en este programa esta vez. Steve Legendre para certificación de Ministro Laico Eclesiástico y Niyibizi Shukurani como Diácono.
El Programa de Formacion Comun se enfoca en las cua-tro áreas de formación para ministro requerida por la Con-ferencia de Obispos Católicos de EU (US Conference of Catholic Bishops). Estas áreas de formación son la Huma-na, Espiritual, Intelectual, y Pastoral. Las sesiones son pre-sentadas por expertos locales en teología Católica, práctica y experiencias.
Como parte de este programa, los candidatos para certi-ficación como ministros laicos eclesiásticos deben desarro-llar un proyecto pastoral. Steve Legendre ha desarrollado
un programa de Enriquecimiento Matrimonial Post Caná diseñado para parejas en sus primeros 3 años de matrimonio. El también participó el programa de Directores Espirituales durante este tiempo y se certificó como como Director Espiritual. El está disponible para cualquier perso-na que quiera ser guiada por un Director Espiritual. Usted lo puede contactar por medio de la oficina de la parroquia.
El domingo 4 de junio, el Obispo Kicanas conducirá la ceremonia en la cual Steve será certificado como Ministro Laico Eclesiástico. ¡Felicidades, Steve!

Faith Formation Formación en la Fe
Religious Education Registration for the 2017–18 Catechetical year will be the first weekend in August. Parents may register their child/ren for sacrament preparation at that time. Catechesis for Reconciliation and First Communion is offered to chil-dren of eight years of age and older. Preparation is a two consecutive year process. The child must have been baptized in a Roman Catholic Church and must attend classes weekly.
Vacation Bible School Coming this Summer 12 June – 16 June

Foster Care & Adoptions Several agencies in our area serve to help children in need of a loving home find one. Next Sunday, 4 June, two of these agencies will be at our parish from 8:30 AM until 3:00 PM to provide information about the service they are providing and about being foster or adoptive parents.
If you are, or someone you know is, considering foster care or adoption, this will be an opportunity to get information from several agencies at one time. So why not plan to stop by the tables the next Sunday to speak with a representative of these agencies and/or simply to pick up some information.
A reflection by an adoptive parent
The care of orphans in our time is to take someone in your family that has issues due to unspeakable tragedy, abuse, neglect, and/or trauma. We as parents are not per-fect and our own children have issues because of it, but adoption is to willingly take those issues and choose those issues and to love the child that has those issues.
Every day the experience of adoption has reminded me that God took me in and chose me as His adopted son. God took all my issues too. My adoption papers were not signed with an ink pen and paid with a check, but with the blood and life of God’s own Son, Jesus. My adoption cost God everything and my issues God continually deals with and loves me anyway.
When birthparents sense they are not ready to raise a child, Certified Adoptions of Catholic Community Services–Tucson creates hope by accepting their newborns for adoptive place-ment. For foster children who will not return to their parents, we help to create loving, per-manent families.
For children removed from their homes, we have foster families waiting. Our parent aides supervise visits between foster children and their parents with the goal of a return home.

The Certified Adoptions Program is a process in which those who wish to adopt a child from the State of Arizona Depart-ment of Child Safety undergo rigorous background checks, document submissions and interviewing. Upon submission of a Home Study report to the Court, a Judge decides whether to certify the person(s) as adoptive parents.
After parents become certified, there is a “match” process to pick the optimum relational match between child/ren and parents. This is based on a multitude of factors including parental openness to sex, age, sibling group, behavioral patterns, mental health, and ethnicity/race.

A Place to Call Home was founded with one thing in mind: to make a difference in the lives of children and adults with special needs and disabilities.
The need for quality and traditional families to provide care is tremendous as the num-ber of individuals in need of foster and adoptive homes, child developmental homes and adult out of home care has almost doubled since 2008. As an agency, we recruit, train and submit home studies for licensure and certification of families and individuals who meet the required qualifications. A Place to Call Home conducts the renewal process, provides monitoring, facilitates placement and offers ongoing training and support. With a large pool of resources, our families have an extensive amount of support. We act as advocates not only for the children and adults, but for their foster, adoptive, or developmental home providers as well.
When a family becomes a part of the A Place to Call Home community, you experience a relationship where quality and character matters. Our priority is ensuring the success of our families and always keeping the child or adult at the forefront of all our decision making. Adopciones y Crianza Algunas agencias en nuestra area ayudan a niños necesitados de una casa cálida a encontrar una. El próximo domingo 4 de junio dos de éstas agencias estarán en nuestra parroquia de 8:30 am a 3:00 pm para dar información sobre los servicios que ellos ofrecen y sobre convertirse en padres de crianza o padres adoptivos.
Si usted, o alguien que usted conoce, están considerando crianza o adopción, ésta será una oportunidad para obtener información de varias agencias al mismo tiempo. Así que porque no planear la visita a estas mesas el siguiente domingo para conversar con un representante de estas agencias y/o simplemente obtener información.
Una reflexión de un padre adoptivo
El cuidado de niños huérfanos en nuestros tiempos es recibir a alguien en tu familia que tiene problemas debidos a tragedias incontables, abusos, negligencias, y/o trau-mas. Nosotros como padres no somos perfectos y nuestros propios hijos tienen pro-blemas por eso, pero la adopción es intencionalmente tomar esos problemas y esco-ger esos problemas y amar a ese niño que tiene esos problemas.
La experiencia de la adopción me recuerda todos los días que Dios me recibió y me escogió como su hijo adoptivo. Dios también recibió todos mis problemas. Mis pape-les de adopción no se firmaron con tinta ni se pagaron con cheque, pero con la sangre y vida del Hijo de Dios, Jesús. Mi adopción le costó a Dios todo y Dios continuamente enfrenta mis problemas y a pesar de eso me ama.

TIHAN provides CarePackages to its CarePartners as one of its support outreach efforts. Each month they receive 90 to 130 CarePackage requests.
