Articles need to be submitted, in writing, to the Rectory by 11:00 am Friday the week before the Bulletin is printed.

Sainte Anne Parish is a faith community in the Roman Catholic tradition. We strive to live up to the motto: "We Are Family". We see ourselves as a local expression of the universal Church, the People of God, the Body of Christ. Through God's grace we seek to be welcoming and loving. Our life centers on the week-end celebration of the Eucharist. We meet Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and are then challenged to bring His love to others.

O glorious St. Ann, you are filled with compas-sion for those who invoke you and with love for those who suffer! Heavily burdened with the weight of my troubles, I cast myself at your feet and humbly beg of you to take the present inten-tion which I recommend to you in your special care.

Please recommend it to your daughter, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and place it before the throne of Jesus, so that He may bring it to a happy issue. Continue to intercede for me until my request is granted. But, above all, obtain for me the grace one day to see my God face to face, and with you and Mary and all the saints to praise and bless Him for all eternity. Amen.

A Bed for Every Child Initiative:program of the Massa-chusetts

Dear People of God, Projects of Faith (Hebrews 11:1)

Warm greetings in Christ Jesus the Lord! I write to bring to your attention the following information:

1. Once again, we thank God for all the members that now constitute our Parish Pastoral Council (PPC). (See the list of members be-low).

2. We thank Charlene Carrier, our Coordinator of Religious Education, for the work she does with the CCD program. Charlene and I have discussed the need for our CCD pupils and students to grow in their active participation in the Sunday liturgy of the parish. The Sunday liturgy is the space wherein we come together as a community, the body of Christ, to worship God and offer spiritual support to each other. It is helpful that the young ones grow with this awareness of the importance of the Sunday liturgy. Beginning the month of October when the CCD classes will resume, we will encourage parents to bring the kids for the 8.30am mass. After mass, they will have donuts for an interval of 10 minutes, before beginning classes at 9.30am.

3. Along these lines, we hope to encourage some of young ones to embrace the ministry of Altar Serving. Sr. Pauline Fortin has accept-ed to offer training to these new altar servers. And Mr. Artie Sullivan of our Scouts group will serve as a co-mentor and guide with Sr Pauline, for our altar servers. Hence, going forward, the Altar Servers of our parish will be constituted into a body named St. Stephen's Guild (St. Stephen is the patron saint of altar servers). And the mentors of St. Stephen Guild of our parish will be Sr. Pauline Fortin and Mr. Artie Sullivan.

4. Spiritual Formation: Last week Tuesday, we began the Catholic Charismatic Prayer group in our parish. It will continue going forth. It is an opportunity for renewal in the life in the Spirit. For now, most of the members felt Tuesday, 6-8pm to be the most appropriate time. Given that we have Rosary prayer as a community same Tuesday evening, I will be discussing with the members to eventually move the Charismatic Prayer meetings to another day. For now, we will continue to meet every Tuesday evening at the Ste Anne Parish Pastoral Centre, from 6-8pm. Come and experience the new birth in the Spirit!

5. And this brings me to the next point: Following our parish Building Committee meeting that took place on Thursday, August 29, we have decided to rename the School Building of our parish from "School" to Parish Pastoral Centre. This fits the current usage of the property, which continues to serve the parish in hosting activities such as the CCD classes; the Boys Scouts; 12 Steps; Cameroon Com-munity meetings; Reception Functions; Couples for Christ; Charismatic Prayer Group; et cetera. More functions will be moved to the Parish Pastoral Centre as the renovations get underway. Hence, going forward, the "school" building is now called Parish Pastoral Cen-tre. 6. At the Building Committee Meeting, we identified the following as urgent priorities in need of maintenance, renovations and additions: 6.1 Repairs of the Church doors of our Ste Anne Parish Church: Estimated at $6500.00 6.2 Repairs of the Heating System of our Parish Church: Estimated at $10,000 6.3 Repairs of the Heating System of our Parish Pastoral Centre: Estimated at $8000.00 6.4 And finally, so dear to my heart, Installation of the Air Conditioners in our parish Church before summer of 2020: Estimated between $250,000 to $300,000. Dear People of God, I am under no illusion that these are large sums and large expectations. But my anxiety about these large sums of monies is tempered by the faith I try to have in God and in us as the body of Christ. As a human being, I am worried - "will we be able to do all these for our Church family, to make sure that we keep Ste Anne running for those who will come 100 years from today?" But as a believer, I know that not only is God bigger than my worries, but that God is bigger than $300,000! Hebrews 11:1 tells us "Faith is the assurance of things hoped for. The convictions of things not seen." In faith, I place these projects before you, as Projects of Faith. I want to trust that Christ will touch the hearts of his body here at Ste Anne's to give their time, talents and treasures, so that together, as the body of Christ, we will accomplish these projects, for the greater glory of God. In Jesus and Mary, Fr. Maurice --

September 15 ~ Twenty-fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time The gospel today speaks of the lost sheep, lost coin, lost son. There is great rejoicing when what is lost has been found. Each of the parables make it clear that God does not want to see anyone lost, because of sin. In your prayer this week ask for the grace to be open to see that God is crazy in love for you just as if you were the only person in the world. Rejoice in that gift!

Society of St Vincent de Paul The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul will be holding our monthly collection on September 14th and 15th, and will be at the church doors after all of the Masses. During the last month, we were blessed to receive $6,139 from our collection boxes and many very generous benefactors. With your gifts, our volunteers were able to bring God’s love and mercy to 21 families, providing $2,125 in rental assistance; $1,930 in utility bill assistance; $3,229 in food assistance; $781 in furniture, and $384 in miscel-laneous assistance. Those who benefit from your donations are most apprecia-tive of your generosity. In the Gospels we see how Jesus encouraged his followers to treat those in need with mercy. You can also treat the poor with mercy by giving to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Our members then go out two by two to visit those who have called us for assistance and bring your gifts directly to those in need in

Salem. Have you considered answering the call to help serve the poor by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul? For more information, please call Karen O'Brien at 978-745-

This weekend’s second collection supports the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust which cares for the health and well-being of our priests in good standing. Our priests have dedicat-ed their lives to serving all of us and those in need, bringing the love and hope of Christ to others so that they may see Him in to-day’s world. Whether it is within our parish communities, or in the community at large, our priests are making a difference every day. By supporting this weekend’s collection, you are helping to ensure that our priests receive the care they need to continue their im-portant work. This dedicated second collection is a primary source of fund-ing to care for our priests. Your generosity is very much ap-preciated.

St. Michael Prayer: In view of the many crises throughout the world, in our own country, and in the Church, a growing number of the American bishops are requiring or requesting that the Prayer to St. Michael, the Archangel, be prayed at the end of every Mass. We are now praying this prayer after Daily Mass and on the week-ends at all Masses. It is found in the bulletin and can be found on the back cover of the Heritage Missal. This prayer was also prayed after each Mass until the 1960s. Pray it also in your families.

Sacrament of the Sick: One of the gifts of the Second Vatican Council was the renewal of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. This beautiful sacrament is no longer reserved for a person in danger of death, but should be celebrated by any-one with a serious illness, a person facing serious surgery, or a person in a weak-ened condition. The next celebration of this sacrament will be following the 4:00 p.m. Mass on Sat-urday, September 21st. The sacrament is also available for people in their homes by calling the rectory at 978-744-1930. Anyone terminally ill or beginning Hospice Care should receive this sacrament as soon as possible.

Tuesday Evening Adoration and Rosary: Please join in the Tuesday evening 6:30p.m. Eucharistic Adoration and Praying of the Holy Rosary. With extra effort we could fill our chapel with praying people. Pray especially for the renewal and growth of Ste. Anne Parish. Mary, the Mother of the Lord, has constantly asked for the daily praying of the Rosary. At the very least try to join in this prayer once a week.

It’s that time again!!! We need your help in filling Fr. George's Pa-triots Bank for the bazaar. Any change or bills would be greatly appreciated. Together we can get this filled. Please leave in the bas-ket at the back of the church. Thanks again for all you do for Ste. Anne's Parish.

Come join the Family Scouting Pack of Ste Anne’s Parish. Salem Pack 83 is for Boys and Girls in Gr. K-5. To Learn more, come to our Open house/Sign-up On Sept 22 from 1-3 PM at the Ste Anne’s Pastoral Center on Cleveland St. for more information, email Salem-Pack83 @gmail.com.

Dorian Relief

Cardinal Sean has asked for a special collection for the dio-ceses of the Bahamas and the United States that have been ravaged by the destruction of Hurricane Dorian. We have all seen the devastation caused by this severe storm. The emergency needs of the local Church in these areas will be great.

Here at Ste Anne’s we will have a second collection the weekend of September 28/29. Checks should be made out to the Ste Anne’s Parish and clearly marked on the memo line “Hurricane Dorian Relief”. As information about the de-struction and needs becomes known the Archdiocese will work in collaboration with Catholic Relief Services for the Bahamas and Catholic Charities USA for any US diocese that has emergency needs.

The Cardinal also asks that we keep all of our brothers and sisters impacted by the hurricane in our prayers.

24th Sunday of Ordinary Time

While spring-cleaning my parents’ basement, I came

across my old Boy Scout Handbook. It had sat in a box

for years. Time and moisture had taken its toll on the

book, so it was not in the best of condition. But it was

filled with memories of learning, fun and adventure

and I could not part with it. Tattered and curled, it has

a special place in my bookcase and has given me hours

of pleasure as I remember my time in the Scouts.

Sin and guilt takes its toll on us. We feel rejected, un-

lovable, and like a failure. All our good intentions

seem to be lost and we may even give up on ourselves.

Like the Prodigal Son we feel unworthy of God’s love

or forgiveness. But God never gives up on us. He

wants us as His own and never fails to love us and re-

store us to grace. Our value to Him is infinite, paid for

by the passion and resurrection of Jesus.

God delights in His people and rejoices when we turn

to Him. He knows us better than we know ourselves.

He reads us like an old familiar book, aware of our

strengths and our weaknesses, our virtues and vices,

and loves us just the same. God holds us in the palm of

His hand. He cannot forget us, deny us or not love us.

Trust that He holds us right where He wants us to al-

ways be.

Remember Ste. Anne Parish in Your Will: Have you ever con-sidered remembering Ste. Anne Parish in your will? Also at the time of the death of a loved one, memorial donations can be ear-marked for the parish. Include this request in the obituary no-tice. Many parish communities have benefited greatly from such memorial gifts. This is a wonderful way to make sure Ste. Anne Parish is on a secure financial footing now and able to continue to serve the community effectively in the future. Think about it and Thank You!

Healthier Priests. Stronger Communities.

Funds from this special collection are managed by the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust – an independently managed trust with a majority lay board of trustees. The funds are used for the sole benefit of active and senior priests in good standing.

The strength and vibrancy of our communities depend largely on the welfare of our priests who tirelessly serve others from all walks of life.

Powerful examples of strength in community are visible across 144 cities and towns of the Archdiocese of Boston. The roots of these communities can be traced back to the work of our priests.

Pine Street Inn: A Boston priest was one of the original founders of Pine Street Inn, which provides shelter and emergency services for nearly 2,000 homeless men and women in the Boston area every day.

Cor Unum: Started by a Lawrence pastor, Cor Unum (“One Heart”) food pantry serves more than 250,000 meals annually to poverty-stricken families in Lawrence.

Addiction Support for Families: A Boston priest’s expertise in addiction and recovery has been instrumental for organizations helping families and individuals in the grips of addiction.

Rostro de Cristo: Efforts to help the poor on the margins of Ecuador’s largest city is hard work, except for those who have been inspired by a Boston priest who started Rostro de Cristo, an organization based in Boston that lives the Gospel and serves the poor.

It’s simple: healthier priests mean stronger communities. Please support clergytrust.org
