About the Founder

Trudy Susan is founder and VP of Marketing for the online platform 4c Hair Chick. A marketing professional with eight years in the industry, Trudy Susan has had experience working for small boutique marketing agencies and major corporations such as Verizon Wireless. Among her industry peers, she is widely recognized as an innovator and a

motivator. Her passion for marketing is contagious. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Trudy has spent her career traveling the country managing anything from small grassroots programs to large scale national marketing campaigns. !In 2011, Trudy Susan was ready for a change. Feeling frustrated by her look, she squared off with her reflection and

chopped off her hair, instantaneously trading her shoulder length chemically relaxed tresses for a teeny-weeny afro. But returning to her natural roots proved to be more difficult than she expected.

Although tightly coiled hair is common among black women, hair trends, maintenance tips, and style ideas for her ultra

kinky, type 4 hair were hard to find. !Recognizing there was an unsolved problem in the market place, Trudy leveraged her marketing skills to solve that problem. She launched 4c Hair Chick to serve as the ultimate online destination for women of color with type 4 hair. In

less than seven months, she built a thriving community of over 12,000 Facebook members and 7,000 YouTube

subscribers, making 4c Hair Chick the most popular destination for women with type 4 hair in the world. !The explosive growth of 4c Hair Chick only confirmed Trudy’s initial belief: women crave information specific to their own hair texture !Although 4c Hair Chick primarily offers hair education and inspiration, Trudy firmly believes that the natural hair movement is about more than hair. To her it’s about falling in love with yourself and owning your beauty. Gone are the

days of society dictating what is beautiful. 4c Hair Chick subscribes to a belief that there are no beauty standards. Community members are taught that they are beautiful and that beauty cannot be defined by any media outlet or any
