R4 FINDER SystemThe system is next-generation technology that uses microwave sensor modules and soft-ware algorithms, in a portable multi-channel radar device, which detects heartbeats and breathing patterns of humans. R4 FINDER consists of the base configuration: Hexagon, which can detect human presence from a distance of approximately 20 meters (65.6 feet) through open space, heavy materials, and dense obstacles. There is no need to attach the device to walls, structures, or objects during operation.

The sensors within the device can detect life in urban, wilderness, combat, mountainous, air-sea, force protection, and health and safety situations. This system is ideal for search and rescue, first-responder, public safety, and law enforcement teams in the course of saving lives.

The sensor detects human beings, hidden from view by enclosed walls or trapped in rubble, by their heartbeats and breathing patterns. Low-powered microwaves, about 1/1000th of the power generated in a cell phone, are directed towards an intended search area. The microwaves bounce or reflect off objects (enclosed areas, walls, or rubble) yielding data from vibrations. This captured information is then analyzed by software algorithms, com-pares the signal-to-noise ratio of human heartbeats against all other background noise, and provides a final output on whether human life has been located. The unique thing about a human heartbeat is that the rhythmic beat changes with each breath.

The Hexagon is a hand-held and tripod-ready portable radar device that is radiation safe within the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) 1998 guidelines. The case is compact and light weight, for easy hand-held operation, transportation, and use with an included tactical tripod.

The device is paired with a 7” ruggedized-tablet that features an easy-to-use graphic user interface, and an ingress protection (IP) rating of 65. The integrated components include an infrared thermal imaging camera, a wide-angle VGA camera, non-intrusive GPS and Wi-Fi antennas, a Bluetooth relay controller, a mini-ITX motherboard, a solid state storage drive, and a lithium ion battery.

The Octocopter is a modified HX that is transported by a DJI Spread-ing Wings S1000+ unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

The system is designed for professional operators of a UAV which is included with FINDER HX integration. The Octocopter is highly porta-ble with folding arms, and has enough carrying capacity for the HX device. The UAV has an automatic “return-to-home” failsafe in case of remote control signal loss or low battery power.
