Book Review

Check out 2 sample reviews:here (scroll down to review written by Ryan) and here (scroll to the review of Feed titled, Satire may soar over the heads of young readers).

• On a book you’ve read this nine weeks—not the same one you did the book talk on.

• Begins with a compelling introduction—a HOOK and thesis sentence that gives your opinion of the book.

• Includes a summary with enough details that show you read the book but that doesn’t include spoilers.

• Ends with a final opinion about the book.

Narrative Essay

We’ve worked on the prewriting in your Writer’s Notebook when we brainstormed places, then memories, then did quick writes about those memories.

• Shares three specific memories tied to ONE PLACE.

• Draft the three separate memories.

• Start in medias res (in the middle of the action)

• SHOW us that moment—in present tense as if it’s happening now.

• Include sensory details (sights, sounds, smells…)

• Use vivid words
