Nicene Creed

We believe in one God,

the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. Frederick Houk Borsch (born September 13, 1935) was the Episcopal Bishop of Los Angeles from 1988 to 2002, then served as interim dean of the Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University and Chair of Anglican studies at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. Remembered particularly for the development of Spanish-speaking congregations, the founding of the Episcopal Urban Intern Program (Episcopal Service Corps), his leadership in environmental stewardship, the building of the Cathedral Center of St. Paul, and advocacy for poverty-wage workers and the living wage while bishop in Los Angeles, he also served for twelve years as the Chair of the House of Bishop’s Theology

Committee and as a member of the design and steering teams for the 1988 and 1998 Lambeth Conferences, chairing the section “Called to be a Faithful Church in a Plural World” in 1998. Working with the Standing Commission on Human Affairs, he helped the General Convention of 1994 to include in the church's canons sexual orientation in the non-discriminatory clauses for ordination.

Americans Who Tell the Truth Portraits by Robert Shetterly Martin de Porres Center, 2330 Airport Dr., Columbus, OH 43219.

We are inviting friends from St. Alban’s, Bexley to join us when the Martin de Porres Center director and the exhibit's curator Dr. Christina Butler, welcomes us and offers brief commentary on the show. Following this we will share in a simple prayer service at 11:15 a.m. marking Ascension Day. This worship will be in the award-winning chapel of the Dominican Sisters of Peace, next door to the Martin de Porres Center. Following worship, you may want to walk the beautiful grounds of the convent and continue with friends for an impromptu lunch. Cincinnati-born artist Rob Shetterly began painting a series of portraits in 2002 as a way of channeling his anger and grief after 9/11. Ten years later, he has far surpassed his goal of painting 50 portraits, now traveling the country to engage citizens in every state who are determined to solve issues of social injustice. Featured will be 20 portraits of courageous Americans— including that of OSU law professor Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow.
