5 out quick hitter

5 OUT Quick Hitter If you’ve run the Read & React for long or if you’ve been following the Read & React at all, you know that we suggest the R&R as an alternative to set plays. (Actually, we suggest it as an alternative to anything, but plays are one of those things). So, if we have a healthy disdain for plays, why Quick Hitters? Good question. And, yes, we do have our reasons. You might need them as a crutch to initiate your offensive attack when your team is not used to doing it on their own. They might serve the purpose of giving a certain player a certain look during an advantageous time in the game. You might use them as a means to exploit a specific weakness that you spot in your opponent. They can become a way to send a message to your players that this is the sort of action you need to be hunting for against this team. It can be a good teaching method for linking layer-to-layer or action-to-action and increasing the depth of your team’s offensive attack. With that in mind, here’s our final Quick Hitter in this five part series. If you want more, you can find the other four here, here, here, and here. And, if you want more than that, we made an entire DVD of them. And, as always, if you have a Quick Hitter of your own, tell us about it in the comments or send me an email. 1 dribbles at 2 looking for rear cut layup. If 2 is not open, 2 fills out toward 3 in the short corner. 4 fills the empty spot and looks for a “Read Line Rear Cut” if defender crosses the Read Line.

5 OUT Quick HitterIf you’ve run the Read & React for long or if you’ve been following the Read & React at all, you know that we suggest the R&R as an alternative to set plays. (Actually, we suggest it as an alternative to anything, but plays are one of those things). So, if we have a healthy disdain for plays, why Quick Hitters?Good question.

They can become a way to send a message to your players that this is the sort of action you need to be hunting for

against this team. It can be a good teaching method for linking layer-to-layer or action-to-action and increasing the depth of your

team’s offensive attack.

If 2 is not open, 2 fills out toward 3 in the short corner.4 fills the empty spot and looks for a “Read Line Rear Cut” if defender crosses the Read Line.

If the defender of 4 stays inside the Read Line, 5 sets a pin screen for 4 and 1 looks to skip.At the same time, 2 sets a back screen for 3 for a layup or screen and pop option.

If nothing is open, 5 and 3 fill out and the R&R continues…

4 OUT Quick HitterOver the last few weeks, we’ve been fleshing out a 5 part series on Read & React Quick Hitters. This is our fourth installment – you can find the three previous here, here, and here.

This is an easy 4 OUT Quick Hitter that utilizes the Post as a scoring opportunity and as a screener.

1 passes and cuts (1st Option). If 1 is not open, then 1 screens for 5 in the short corner.5 cuts to the front of the rim (2nd option).

If 5 is not open, 4 passes to 2 while 1 fills out and 5 fills the mid-post.

4 cuts after the pass to 2.5 sets a post screen (3rd option).

5 ducks into the lane right off the tail of 4′s cut (4th option).4 fills out ball side.If 5 is not open, R&R continues…

3 OUT Quick HitterThis our third of five Read & React Quick Hitter posts in tribute to our new DVD: Quick Hitters! You can check it out here.

Here’s a Quick Hitter from the 3 OUT formation with a couple of nice scoring options as well as a post isolation

opportunity. And, as always, nothing in this Quick Hitter violates Read & React principles.

Remember, these Quick Hitters should serve as a spring board for ideas. You can easily take the actions that your team

is best at, order them in a specific pattern, and call it a play. And if the initial attacks don’t work, you can flow naturally

into the Read & React.

4 flashes inside the FT line elbow.

1 feeds 4 and “X-cuts” with 3.

4 has two options – 1 cutting to the goal or 3 cutting to the top of the key.

Page 6: 5 OUT Quick Hitter

1 continues his cut to the opposite wing while 5 and 2 set staggered pin screens for 1.

From this position 4 is isolated and can attack one-on-one.

5 is also open for the slip sometimes.

If nothing is immediately open, any pass to anyone will continue the R&R attack.
