Construction Federal Credit Union has begun the countdown to our 40th Anniversary, celebrating 40 years of Helping People Live Better Lives. As we approach this milestone moment in our history, I want to remind you that we remain 5 Stars-Superior and are additionally rated as an Exceptional Performance Credit Union. We maintain little or no delinquency and we have more than double the regulatory capital requirement in assets.

Our recent Member Appreciation and Open House Barbecue, to celebrate our beautiful new Main Office and the “kick off” of our 40 Years countdown, was a fantastic success. We had the opportunity to see hundreds of you that day, enjoy great entertainment and a good meal. Thank you for celebrating with us in the beautiful park setting of our new Main Office.

It is hard to know what the founders of our credit union thought we would look like at 40, but I know they are proud of what we have become.

40 years ago, the population of the United States was 100 million fewer with 212 million people; Richard Nixon was the President, Spiro Agnew was the Vice President; unemployment was at 4.9%; a first class postage stamp cost .08; Billy Martin was fired as the manager of the Detroit Tigers; the average cost of a new house was $32,500.00; the average income in the USA was $12,900.00 per year, gas was $0.40 per gallon, popular movies were, The Exorcist, American Graffiti and The Sting.

On T.V., we were watching The Odd Couple, The Partridge Family, The Bob Newhart Show, Mary Tyler Moore and All in the Family. On the radio, we were listening to Piano Man by Billy Joel, Shambala by Three Dog Night, Could it be I’m Falling in Love by The Spinners and You’re So Vain by Carly Simon. Popular albums were, Paul McCartney and Wings Band on the Run, Led Zeppelin’s Houses of the Holy, and Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

The world has changed a lot since then, and so too have we all.

Together, we have built something really wonderful. Thank you, sincerely, for making these 40 years possible.
