The World’s No.1 Engineering Recruitment Specialists
We work with some of the largest oil and gas businesses on the
planet. We understand the organisations involved, but we also
appreciate the people that make them tick. We know how hard it can
be to get ahead in your chosen industry, and that’s why we’ve
developed some top-tips to help you create the perfect CV and
achieve that next big career move…
CV Top Tips - Structure information logically
1. Structure information logically.
Most CV’s are written in chronological order with the most recent
job at the top, but this may not necessarily be the best format for
you. Consider your experience, your professional skillset and
your career highlights - then use a combination to achieve a
balance of both these and the chronology of your career.
CV Top Tips - Be Selective
2. Be selective.
Include only the most relevant information and pull out your key
skills, achievements and experience. Stay relevant to the
position and project that you’re applying for. Anything you’ve
achieved in a previous role that isn’t relevant to the new job -
leave it out.
CV Top Tips - Tell a story
3. Tell a story.
Your new employer won’t have time to wade through pages of
description, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make your CV
interesting to read. Be succinct, but sell each and every relevant
point you make. For example; “Whilst in ‘W’ role, I introduced
‘X’ and ‘Y’ processes, which resulted in a ‘Z%’ increase in
overall project productivity.” Use bullet points.
CV Top Tips - Adopt a career strategy
4. Adopt a career strategy.
Think about your on-going career development and set yourself
goals - where do you want to be in 5 or even 10 years time?
What type of role, on what type of project and in what location?
Our recruitment specialists can help you with this planning. It’s
always a good idea to get to know your recruitment consultant,
it will help them target particular roles, projects and clients
