Anchor allows you to record and share soundbites (called “waves”) of yourself talking. Anchor’stagline is “Radio by the People” Sounds pretty simple right?

What’s causing such a stir is the way Anchor makes it so easy for anyone to record short audioclips, then share them just as they would a Tweet or a Facebook status. Then, followers can easilyrecord their own voices in a reply wave. It creates a conversation, or a collaborative kind ofpodcast.

Until now, audio has been pretty difficult to break into small pieces and share effectively. ButAnchor’s vision is to make podcasting as simple for everyone as blogging. In fact, some podcastersare hoping that Anchor could be a great way to expose a much larger group of people to theirshows, even if they haven’t discovered podcasts yet.

Anchor is free to download from the app store. Unfortunately, it’s only available for iOS devices atthis time but you can expect versions for Android and the Web later on in 2016. For now, Anchor isso new that this is your chance to get in on the ground floor and use it in your business!

So without further ado…

5 Ways To Use The Anchor Audio App forBusiness1. Use Anchor to provide SNACKABLE content to your tribeAnchor is 2 minute “waves” but it’s perfect for “snackable” content! You could share your expertiseby starting a tip series that shares small snippets of info that is actionable. You could also hoststrategy waves that showcase specific ways that drive the results that your tribe is looking toachieve. Resources are HUGE! People love know what you are using for certain types of projects inyour niche.

Use hashtags to categorize your waves on #Anchor so that peoplecan find your content.

2. Build relationships!WHAT? That relationship word AGAIN? Yep! It never gets old <smile>!

The neat part about Anchor is that it allows everyone to have a voice…a REAL voice at that! I amloving that I get to actually hear people’s voice and am not reliant on the written word to get asense for who that person is in real life. The opportunity for connecting is so much richer becauseof this “real” voice application.

3. Word or Quote of the DayBoth of these ideas are fantastic ways to get conversations started and have people coming backto your waves day after day.

Why not leverage it to connect and build up others on Anchor as well? The word of the day couldbe totally random OR it could be tied to your area of expertise. This simply requires a bit ofcreativity and you are off to the races!

4. Encourage discussion between your followers over audioThis is yet another way Anchor is easy to use. After someone listens to your wave, anchorautomatically plays the next reply in a discussion thread—it feels like they’re listening to aconversation! The idea is that after listening to a few reply waves, your listener will want to jump inand create their own reply, similar to how they might want to write a blog post comment afterreading other people’s thoughts in the comments section.

You gotta build relationships, aka the 'know, like and trust' factor sothat you can actually monetize your business!

Inspiration is the #1 type of content that people engage with onabsolutely any social platform!

So make sure you encourage your listeners to jump in! Ask them to share their experience on thetopic you’re discussing. The more specific the question, the more likely it will trigger a responsethat they’ll want to share.

5. Conduct rapid fire style interviews about current eventsLet’s say there’s some breaking news in your niche. If you want to collect the perspectives of manydifferent people in a short amount of time, posting your thoughts using the Anchor app could be aperfect way to get feedback quickly.

Some news organizations are using the app to ask, for example, “What did you think of thepresidential debate last night?” Then people leave their thoughts in a wave, just as they mightcomment on a news article in written form.

BONUS TIP:6. Drive traffic to your blogI am all about using one social platform as a launch pad to send someone to a more robust placewhere they can connect and perhaps even purchase. That said, you have to lead with a valueproposition that will entice someone to move from one location to another. Anchor is, in myopinion, a fabulous way to provide a summary of your latest blog post and then invite thoselistening to check out the entire article on your site. The key to this tip is that you have to make iteasy for people to go to your site. I would recommend using bit.ly (link shortener) so that you canarticulate a custom link that is easy for people to remember. For example: bit.ly/fbadsblueprint.Easy to say and easy for someone to remember when the go to type into their browser.

DOUBLE BONUS!!Guess what?! I actually ASKED others ON Anchor how they planned to use it for theirbusiness and got TONS of amazing answers!!

Check it out, not only for more great ideas but also to see what all the buzz is about Anchor :-)!

So what do you think? Will 2016 Be The Year of Social Audio?

Some are saying that Anchor is to audio what Instagram is to pictures—easy to use, easy to share, and sure catch on quickly. Time will tell, but the enduring popularity of radio shows and podcastshave proven that audio is a great way to create intimacy with an audience.

With Anchor, all you have to do is press the big red button, record your thoughts, then post them.So give it a whirl and see what you think!

Now I’d love to hear from you: what have you heard about Anchor? Have you given it a try?

I’m loving Anchor, even though I’m a “think visual” guy all about visual content.

I haven’t jumped into the world of podcasting — thinking about the setup expense, commitment, etc., even if it can be minimal to start. Anchor, however, allows me to jumpright in the action and just “press the red button,” as you said.

If it used less bandwith to use on the road (big problem with Periscope when you are in acountry without good net service), then it could be great to paint a wordpicture of alandscape or meal. Hope that whoever uses it watches their non-words such as “ah”,“um”, etc.!!

Like any social media channel it’s important to track your metrics. I use the GERMmetrics model, this helps me focus only on the right metric depending on my channel’smaturity:

– Get going – am I consistently pushing Anchor content on a reliable schedule? – Engagement – am I getting replies and likes from my target audience – Reliable reach – am I growing my followers, are they regularly tuning in to my content – Monetisation – am I driving the business actions I want from this channel

I think Anchor has potential, particularly for very short sound clips, but to use iteffectively for your business you must track your metrics. Anchor doesn’t have an APIbut when it does remind me and Rise will create a dashboard so you can track therelevant anchor metrics for you.

Pam Brossman saysMarch 2, 2016 at 3:16 pm

My question is who has time to listen to all the replies?- That is the only disconnect forme. If you did talk show for a living perhaps but taking time to listen to replies and thenrespond would be a full time job on top of all your other social media activities. Iunderstand the tips strategies and the bite size chunks that is an awesome way to usethe tool. What I don’t get is that people think that leaders using this app are going tospend their day listening to the replies and responding.

Periscope you interact visually and respond and interact spontaneously. Same with blaband facebook livestream, but with this app you have to go back and listen to whatpeople said and respond. What happens when you start getting 30-50 two min repliesKim are you going to respond to each one alongside all the other livestreaming, blogging, facebooking and social media as well?

I understand people are now using ‘return on experience’ instead of ROI or ROT [ReturnOn Time], but for business owners who have a business to run, I am not sure timeinvested with this tool on the ‘reply side’ is going to work.

I would really like someone to explain the ‘interactive’ side of the sound wave for me tojump onto this one.

Am I missing something with the ‘reply and respond’ feature?

Look what Pam Brossman just posted..Why I keep writing more books…

It has become the norm in the consumer space to be able access the information youneed, when you need it, regardless of time or place. For some time, therefore, businessusers have demanded the same functionality for enterprise apps. And BI has been quickto come to the party.
