2016 Every Generation Festival and Awards E-Zine November 2016 # 10

The Festival that began in 1967 as ‘Seniors Week’ is now celebrating the next generation of older South Aussies in a way our predecessors couldn’t possibly imagine.

2016 saw over 270 events held throughout the state in the last 2 weeks of October, attracting well over 50,000 participants. 28 local government areas and a broad range of community organisations presented a myriad of creative, thought-provoking and fascinating activities designed by and for their local communities.

Festival events could be found from the South East to the Riverland, from the Fleurieu to the Mid-North – and almost every place in between.

COTA SA managed events included:

our opening day Fete in the Adelaide Botanic Garden,

the ‘Advancing Style’ Fashion Lunch which highlighted the beauty and strength of the mature fi gure,

a celebration of Italian food & family, co-presented with CO.AS.IT,

and a world premiere comedy/musical that is set to tour nationally in 2017 starring Andy Seymour.

returning favourites such as our Conversation on Ageing – this year with George Negus

the Awards Gala Cocktail Party and various day-time events kept the pace humming along.

The 2016 Every Generation Festival has been a big success for COTA SA, and more importantly, for all the older South Australians who contributed in so many ways.

Every cent raised via the Every Generation Festival helps COTA SA – the peak body for ageing in South Australia – deliver programs that are able to reach more older people in more parts of our community every, single, day.

The sun has now set on the 49th COTA SA Every Generation Festival with records broken across the board. Substantial increases in ticket sales, attendances at free events, media interest and registered community events all spell SUCCESS for the 2016 version of the Every Generation Festival and Positive Ageing Awards.

50,000 people came to party!

It was Fete!

Lovely weather, beautiful surroundings and fabulous people!

What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than to wander around one of our city’s most beautiful spots…the Adelaide Botanic Garden.

EGF was lucky enough to have fi ne warm weather and great stalls from many of our sponsors to further enhance the day for people strolling around the gardens.

Top: Helping Hand’s scrumptious ‘heirloom’ recipes stall, many remarked that the pumpkin pie and lemon slice makings were going to make wonderful presents for Christmas - if they lasted that long!

Middle: The ‘Friends of the Adelaide Botanic Garden’ and their beautiful plants & gardening tips stall.

Bottom: Greven & Co’s Burnside Lions second hand book stall was a real hit with passers by.

Sat 22 October

The audience will never be the same again after this cracking performance of ‘It Ain’t Easy Being Elvis’ starring Andy Seymour at Norwood Concert Hall.

Andy’s stories about what it’s like to tour the world as an Elvis tribute artist are hilarious!! His voice is incredible, and along with his brilliant band, Andy had everyone crying with laughter & singing along to hits like ‘Edge of Reality’ and ‘My Way’.

Don’t miss your chance to see this one!
