In the book of Esther, two infamous Biblical figures speak with one another about a risky task that may rescue God’s people. Esther is frightened to go before the King in order to save the Jewish people, as that act alone could bring about her death. Esther’s uncle Mordecai responds to her fear with a statement and a question, “For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14).

As queen, Esther was in a unique position to advocate for the salvation of the Jewish people. Through his question, Mordecai was reminding Esther that there are no coincidences, that every moment and situation is directed by the perfect hand of God. Mordecai’s question can also be asked of Hurstbourne Baptist Church today. By God’s design, Hurstbourne Baptist Church is located on the corner of Shelbyville and Chadwick. We reside directly across the street from a large South Asian community in desperate need of salvation.
Statistically, South Asia is the most gospel-deprived region in the world. According to the Joshua Project, there are over 2,000 unreached people groups in India alone.

Joining The Beautiful Feet Project is incredibly simple. And, thanks to Zoom, you can even join our prayer walking project from home! Starting May 16, members of HBC will be given the opportunity to sign up to walk and pray during the month of June. Further details and signups will be available on our Church Center App, on our website, via email, and on a paper hand-out.
Through Esther’s faithfulness an entire
people group was saved. Much like Esther before King Ahasuerus, we will be advocating for the eternal lives of our South
Asian neighbors before our heavenly King. May we be faithful this summer to our God-given calling, and may God save many
South Asian people groups as a result of our steps.
-Pastor Chase
Practically speaking, this means there are more than 1 billion people in South Asia who have never heard the gospel of Jesus Christ. God has brought South Asian individuals to the literal doorstep of Hurstbourne Baptist Church. And just like Mordecai asked Esther, we must ask ourselves, is it not for “such a time as this” that HBC exists? Is it not our unique responsibility to advocate for the salvation of our South Asian neighbors? Like Esther, our answer must be “yes.” And we, like Esther, have unique access to the one King who can grant the salvation of those surrounding us.
The Beautiful Feet Project is HBC’s answer to Mordecai’s question for the summer of 2021. For around thirty minutes each day during the months of June, July, and August, prayer walking groups from HBC will be walking through the Hurstbourne Grand Apartments and praying for all those who live there.
