Presentation

The 50th Brazilian Congress of Geology (50th CBG) will be held from

June 28 to 30, 2021, at the Ulysses Centro de Convenções in Brasilia, with

the theme “Geology and Society: Building Bridges for a Sustainable

Planet”. The 50th edition of the congress will take place 51 years after

the first held in the District City, in 1970. Engaged in a modern and

selective technical-scientific programming structure, the 50CBG

will be, in 2021, the stage for the advancement of national geological

knowledge in technical-scientific, corporative and socio-political spheres.

The innovative spirit of this edition also brings special attention to the

business and geocommunication sector, fostering discussions that

integrate the exploitation and use of natural resources in the sustainable

development of the country.

Brasilia was chosen as the host city of the 50th Brazilian Congress of

Geology for several reasons. The country’s capital, located in the center

of the Brazilian territory, houses 151 foreign representations, between

embassies and international organizations, and is the political center

of the nation. Lucio Costa’s bold conception of the city and the palaces

and monuments created by architect Oscar Niemeyer made Brasilia

a unique and modern metropolis, recognized by UNESCO in 1987 as a

“Cultural Heritage of Humanity”. Located in the Central Plateau, in the

Cerrado biome, Brasília is in the “Cradle of Waters”. With these natural

characteristics, favorable logistical conditions to receive thousands

of people and the experience of hosting a city in the organization of

major events, Brasilia represents a unique venue for a Brazilian Geology

Congress.

Brazil has immense geological wealth and potential to make new

discoveries using innovative research techniques. There are demands

to better know, disseminate and debate geology in the country, an

important role that the 50th Brazilian Congress of Geology intends

to fulfill by integrating academy, companies and professionals from

various areas of geosciences in the debate on issues relevant to society.

Interested parties and experts from all over the country will be in Brasilia

and will leave technical contributions and political commitments,

sharing sustainable solutions for the planet.


Mission

The 2021 congress will be organized to

evaluate and disseminate new discoveries

and recent advances in scientific and

technological knowledge in the various

areas of geosciences. The technical-

scientific programming will be dedicated

to the debate of topics of international

relevance and dissemination of the

work of professionals, public and private

companies, research institutions and

industry acting in the various segments

of the area. It is also intended to promote

discussion of political issues and generate

business opportunities involving the

mineral, petroleum, engineering,

environmental, territorial management

and water resources sectors, including the

discussion of the role of the Geologist in

Society.

Target audienceThe 50th CBG is aimed to professionals (industry,

commerce and services), researchers, teachers, students

(undergraduate and postgraduate) from various areas

of knowledge and the community in general, interested

in topics involving Geosciences, whether in the applied

or theoretical / academic area. The event also includes

employees from companies and public and private

entities, as well as non-governmental organizations linked

to geosciences. According to the growth trend of previous

editions, we expect to exceed 4000 participants.

Due to the multidisciplinary character of the Geosciences

and the theme of the event, we encourage the

participation of other professionals from the Exact and

Earth Sciences, such as Geophysicists, Geographers,

Cartographers, Oceanographers, Meteorologists, Chemists,

Physicists and other professionals in related fields such as

Archaeologists, Agronomists and biologists.

In addition to the specialized technical sessions and

EXPOGEO 2021, a range of geological activities will be

offered to the general public and local communities that

highlight the role of Geologist and Geoscientist in Society

in various public spaces such as the Geosciences Museum

of University of Brasilia, Seismological Observatory of the

University of Brasilia, Planetarium and others.


Event structure


The 50th CBG will be held at the Ulysses Centro de

Convenções, which is one of the largest convention

centers in South America. It has a suitable exhibition

area, with all air-conditioned indoor areas, and a

complete structure to hold an event of this size.

The 50th CBG program was designed to discuss

relevant geological topics as Conferences,

Thematic Sessions, Panel Sessions, Plenary

Sessions, Short Courses, Scientific Excursions

and Exhibitions. Simultaneous to the event,

EXPOGEO 2021 will be held, where public and

private companies, research institutions and non-

governmental organizations traditionally hold

technical exhibitions of services and products, with

booths and spaces for technical presentations,

meetings and socializing.

The 50th CBG will offer a differentiated technical-

scientific programming from previous editions and

will have daily the following activities:

■ A magna lecture with researchers working at

the frontier of knowledge;

■ A thematic lecture in each session, with guest

speakers;

■ Five oral presentations of consistent papers in

each thematic session, selected from the papers

submitted;

■ Most valued poster session, both in physical

structure and in time for presentations;

■ Plenaries discussing current issues relevant to

geosciences;

■ Technical lectures in rooms intended exclusively

for companies and sponsors.
