Bird Named 2011 Distinguished Communicator by IABC Columbus

Columbus, OH – The Columbus Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC)

recently announced public relations expert and philanthropist Shelley Bird, as the winner of the 2011 Distinguished

Communicator Award. Bird will be honored at the 2011 Bronze Quill Awards ceremony on June 2.

The Distinguished Communicator Award is given annually by the IABC/Columbus chapter to recognize excellence

in communications within central Ohio. The winner is selected based on the following: contribution to and

leadership in the organizational communication profession in the greater Columbus area; career achievement; and

professional recognition for other activities, including business-related achievements and community involvement.

Bird serves as executive vice president of Public Affairs for Cardinal Health, where she is responsible for global

branding and oversees public relations, corporate marketing, government relations, employee communication,

community relations and the Internet/intranet/new media. In addition to currently serving as IABC board chair, Bird is

a trustee for the Wexner Center for the Arts and chairperson of the Cardinal Health Foundation’s board of trustees.

She is the executive sponsor of the Cardinal Health Asian Pacific American Network, as well as a member of the

Cardinal Health Diversity Council. She also sits on the Steering Committee for the Women’s Initiative Network.

Bird has chosen Gracehaven as the beneficiary of the silent auction which will be held in conjunction with the Bronze

Quill Award ceremony. Gracehaven is a central Ohio non-profit organization that is committed to ending domestic

minor sex trafficking in Ohio. The organization is currently raising funds to open what will be Ohio’s first residential

shelter for girls under the age of 18 who have been victims of commercial sexual exploitation.

IABC (www.iabc.com) is a professional network of nearly 15,000 business communication professionals in more than

80 countries. The IABC/Columbus chapter membership totals more than 120 members and was founded in 1975.
