Working on the equipmentThe installation, adjustment, service,and maintenance of this product mustbe done by a licensed professionalheating contractor who is qualified andexperienced in the installation, service,and maintenance of hot water boilers.There are no user serviceable parts onthe boiler, burner, or control.

Ensure main power supply toequipment, the heating system, and allexternal controls has been deactivated.Close main oil or gas supply valve.Take precautions in both instances toavoid accidental activation of powerduring service work.

The completeness and functionality offield supplied electrical controls andcomponents must be verified by theheating contractor. These include lowwater cut-offs, flow switches (if used),staging controls, pumps, motorizedvalves, air vents, thermostats, etc.

Important Regulatory and Installation Requirements

Power supplyInstall power supply in accordance withthe regulations of the authoritieshaving jurisdiction or, in the absence ofsuch requirements, in accordance withNational Codes. Viessmannrecommends the installation of adisconnect switch to the 120 VACpower supply outside of the boilerroom. The installer must providemaximum 15 A overcurrent protectionfor the 120 VAC power supply (fuse orcircuit breaker).

Working with an open controlNo static discharge to the internalcomponentry must ever occur whenworking with opened controlequipment.

Application of Strain Reliefs to Cables

The strain relief clamps are supplied inthe accessory pack.

1. Remove breakouts as necessary.

2.Mount lower portion of the strain reliefclamp.

3. Insert the cable in the bushing andsecure the wires to the plug. Insertbushing into clamp and plug intosocket.

4. Fasten top portion of strain reliefclamp.

An additional strain relief is not requiredfor cables which incorporate a moldedstrain relief clamp.

Sensors

Outdoor temperature sensor

The outdoor temperature sensor shouldbe mounted 6.6 to 8.2 ft./2 to 2.5 mabove ground on the north ornorthwest wall of the building and forbuildings with multiple floors, in theupper part of the second floor.The sensor must not be placed abovewindows, doors, air vents orimmediately underneath a balcony ordrainage pipes.The outdoor temperature sensor mustnot be plastered or painted over. Ifmounting on an unplastered wall, allowroom for plaster or remove sensorbefore plastering wall.

1. Remove sensor housing.

2. Secure wall-mount base to wall (cableinlet opening to the bottom).

3. Pass cabling through openings in theelectrical connection section and thesupplied cable bushing.

Do not run cable next to line voltagecables.

4. Connect cable wires to terminal.Cable: max. 115 ft./35 m long, AWGcopper.

5.Mount outdoor temperature sensorhousing.

6. Connect the cable wires from theoutdoor temperature sensor toterminals ”1” and ”2” on plug (thewires are interchangeable).

7. Insert plug into socket ”1” andapply strain relief to the cable.

Sensors (continued)

Boiler temperature sensor

The boiler temperature sensor is installed at the same time as the boiler insulation.

Insert plug into socket ”3” (seepage 9) and insert the molded strainrelief clamp.

DHW tank temperature sensor

Heating systems without domestic hotwater heating

Do not connect the DHW tanktemperature sensor to the control unit.

Heating systems with domestic hotwater heating

1. Install the DHW tank temperaturesensor.

Installation Instructions fordomestic hot water tank

When installing the DHW tanktemperature sensor in tanks from othermanufacturers, ensure that sensorfirmly contacts the sensor well wall.

Ensure that the maximum permissibledomestic hot water temperature is notexceeded. If necessary, install anadditional safety high limit or atempering valve of approved type.

2. Insert plug into socket ”5”; insertmolded strain relief clamp.

Pumps (accessory)

All circulation pumps can be hard-wiredto the terminal strip of the Power/PumpModule. Prewired Viessmanncirculation pumps can be plugged intothe respective Rast-5 terminals on thePower/Pump Module.

For underfloor heating system only

An adjustable high limit (AHL) must beprovided additionally. Install the fixedhigh limit in the heating supply pipedownstream of the mixing valve andthe heating circuit pump.

120 VAC pumps (prewired)

1. Insert supplied strain relief throughPower/Pump Module breakout andfasten with nut.

2. Connect the Rast-5 connector to therespective plug-in terminal on thePower/Pump Module.

Fixed High Limit

The fixed high limit (FHL) is factory preset to230 ºF/110 ºC.

Adjustment to 212 ºF/100 ºC1. Remove the fuse.

2. Unclip the cover at the four snap-inclips and remove.

3. Pull the front panel behind the coverupwards and swing open to the rear.

4. Turn the slotted screw at rear offixed high limit until the slot pointsto 212 ºF/100 ºC (once adjusted,the fixed high limit cannot be resetto 230 ºF/110 ºC).

5. Put the front cover back in place andreplace fuse.

6. Check the box on page 24 of thismanual to confirm that theadjustment was made.

Adjustable High Limit

The adjustable high limit (AHL) is factory preset to 165 ºF/75 ºC.Do not set the adjustable high limit above 165 ºF/75 ºC if the fixed high limit hasbeen set to 212 ºF/100 ºC.

Adjustment to 189 ºF/87 ºC1. Using a suitable screwdriver, lever

out selector knob ” ” behind theflip-down cover.

2. Using a pair of pointed pliers, breakoff the respective cams on the dial.

3. Install selector knob ” ”, so that themarking is between ”75” and ”90”.Turn selector knob ” ” fullyclockwise.

4. Check the box on page 24 of thismanual to confirm that theadjustment was made.

If the system is operated in conjunctionwith a domestic hot water storagetank, ensure that the maximumpermissible domestic hot watertemperature is not exceeded. Ifnecessary, install an approved safetydevice for this purpose.

Boiler Coding Card

Only the boiler coding card suppliedwith the standard equipment of theboiler may be used. The coding card isenclosed in the accessory pack of theboiler.

1. Push boiler coding card throughrecess in the cover and insert it intoplug-in location ”X7”.

If the boiler coding card is not installedthe following fault code will bedisplayed on the boiler control:

Connecting Top Part of Control Unit

1.Install the rear control housing.

2. Position top of control unit on thebottom and snap together.

3. Cut through sticker , pull out hingedsupport bar and pull down until thelower section snaps into place.

4. Snap the end of the hinged support barin the hold-in clip at the bottom of thecontrol.

5. Insert the flat cable connector intoplug-in location ”X10” and lay cableunder holding clip.

6. Unlock hinged support bar by applyingpressure to linkage point and bringtop of control unit down, snapping intobottom of control unit.

1. Open the flip-down cover.

2. Using a suitable tool, e.g. a Viessmannhexagon socket screw key, unlock thetop of the control and raise untilhinged support bar snaps into place.
