7. Foot Controls

1. Foot throttle pedal 3. Brake pedals 2. Differential lock pedal 4. Brake pedal latch

A WARNING: This procedure should only be .. operated when maneuvering the tractor at low ground speeds. Never operate the brake pedals independently at high speeds or on the highway always lock them together.

To lock the pedals together swivel the latch in an counter-clockwise direction to engage the slot in the left-hand pedal.

A O WARNING: Maintain the brake adjustment .. so that the tractor does not pull to one side when stopping with the pedals latched together. See Section D "LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE".

Foot Throttle The foot throttle may be used independently of the hand throttle to control the speed of the tractor and is recommended for use on the public highway.

IMPORTANT: When it is required to use the foot throttle, set the hand throttle to the idle position.

9

Upon rel~ of the foot throttle the engine speed will return to the hand throttle setting.

Differential Lock In conditions indudng wheel slip, depress the differential lock pedal until the lock is felt to engage. The lock will automatically disengage when traction at the rear wheels equalizes. If a rear wheel spins at speed, reduce the engine speed to idle before engaging the differential lock to minimize shock loads on the rear axle.

A WARNING: Never use the differential lock .. at speeds above 5 miles/h (8 km/h) or when turning the ° tractor. When engaged, the lock will prevent the tractor turning, and personal injury could result.

STEERING CONTROL

IMPORTANT: Your tractor is equipped with hydrostatic power steering. Neuer hold the steering wheel against either of the steering stops for more than 10 seconds or for more than a total of 10 seconds in anyone minute. Failure to obseroe this precaution may result in damage to the steering system components.

TRANSMISSION °

The transmission is a fully synchronized power reversing type giving four forward and four reverse speeds. A torque converter is used to connect the engine to the transmission and the column mounted power reversing lever enables power shifts between forward and reverse.

The floor matting should be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner and/or a stiff brush. If necessary a damp cloth may be used to remove obstinate stains. Allow the matting to dry naturally and avoid getting water under the mat.

NOTE: If using a high pressure washer to clean the tractor, avoid aiming the jet directly at oil fill points, breathers, seals, instruments or decals.

TOOLBOX

The toolbox is located and integral with the left-hand step plate in front of the battery compartment. To

" remove the lid release the overcenter type latch and slide the lid rearwards and upwards. The latch may be locked with a padlock for extra security if required.

TRANSPORTING THE TRACTOR

When moving the unit from one site to another, or when using the loader for any length of time, always set the backhoe in the transport position as follows:

Center Pivot Backhoe:

1. Fully raise and center the boom.

2. Fully retract the extendible dipperstick where fitted and install the transport pin Figure 23.

3. Curl the bucket fully in.

4. Crowd the dipstick fully in.

5. Fully raise the stabilizers.

6. Engage the boom/swing transport lock by pulling the lever fully back into the latched position, Figure 24.

NOTE: It may be necessary to move the swing control lever slightly to ensure full engagement of the lever lock.

19

23. Extendible Dipperstick Locking Pin

1. Locked or transport position 2. Unlocked or work poSition

A WARNING: To avoid injury never use the .. backhoe for "lifting" or "craning" with the backhoe locked in the transport position.

7. If local regulations require an SMV emblem to be fitted attach the SMV to the lower end of the backhoe bucket cylinder rod.

24. Boom/Swing Transport Lock

1. Boom latch pin 3. Lever latch 2. Boom latch 4. "Lever

3. Backhoe Controls - Three Lever

1. Lift lever (boom) 4. Swing pedals 2. Crowd lever (dipstick) 5. Stabilizer levers 3. Actuating lever (bucket) 6. Extendible dipperstick lever

BACKHOE CONTROLS (Three lever)

The backhoe digging elements are controlled by three main control levers with two additional small levers to control the stabilizers and two foot pedals to control the boom swing. ·

Operation of the levers is as follows with reference to Figure 3:

1. Pull lever back - boom lifts Push lever forward - boom lowers

2, Pull lever back - dipstick crowds in Push lever forward - dipstick crowds out

3. Pull lever back -: bucket curls in Push lever forward - bucket curls out

4. Depress right pedal - boom swings right Depress left pedal - boom swings left

4. Extendible Dipperstick

STABILIZER LEVERS

The stabilizer levers Figures 1,2 and 3.

Pull the levers back - stabilizers raise. Push the levers forward - stabilizers lower.

11

The left hand lever operates the left stabilizer and the right hand lever operates the right stabilizer.

EXTENDIBLE DIPPERSTICK (where fitted)

The extendible dipperstick, Figure 4 can be operated Simultaneously with other boom dipperstick and bucket movements to increase overall backhoe versatility during most operations.

The working length of the dipperstick is variable between the dosed poSition and the maximum extension of 4 ft. (1.22m) for the Ford 655C and 3.5 ft. (1.07m) for the Ford 555C by actuation of the floor mounted foot pedal control Figures 1 and 2 or the control lever Figure 3.
