Minerals are considered by many tobe dietary supplements, or possiblerare ores or precious gems that aremined for their economic value.Silicon is fairly typical of howminerals are usually defined byindividuals engaged in differentprofessions. To an herbalist, siliconis the dominating nutrient in themedicinal plant known as horsetailor shavegrass, which has the meritsin strengthening bones andstopping hemorrhages. Whilewith a nutritionist, silicon mightbe an organic element available invegetal biomass that has beencompressed a little way below theearth's surface for tens of millionsof years, and holds value inrelieving the joint inflammationcommonly associated witharthritis.

Then there are the geologists whostudy silicon in purely physicalterms. They already know thatalong with oxygen, it ranks as thesecond most common element inthe earth's crust. In their science, the planet's two most abundantelements combine to form theframework of the most commonmineral group around, the silicates.Quartz is the only one made entirely from silicon andoxygen, while all others includeadditional elements. By theirdefinition, minerals are defined asnaturally occurring inorganicsolids, which possess a definiteinternal structure and a specificchemical composition.

The herbalist and nutritionist areengaged in healing and nourishingthe human body with those agentsthey consider to be useful in the restoration of wellness and itslong-term maintenance. Thus, tothem silicon would be like anorganic substance absolutelynecessary for keeping the complexarchitecture of muscles and nervesperfectly resilient and in goodshape at all times. They wouldalso recognize its importance in thesynovial fluid that constantlylubricates our various body jointsso they don't ossify and refuse tobend anymore. In this health arenathen, silicon is considered to be a vital mineral of primenutritional significance.

But geologists see silicon assomething entirely different intheir large world of earth sciences'understanding. They see silicon as one of the primary hardeningagents that make minerals solidlike rock. It is one of severalinorganic elements that helps toform crystals like pyrite and giveluster to certain mineralcombinations such as pearls.

Therefore, in order to differentiatebetween the two interpretations of minerals in general, I havedevised the term biomass mineralsto describe a combination of manydifferent organic elements with collective nutritional valueAND specific health needs inmind. On the other hand,

geologist have already categorizedtheir version as rock-formingminerals.

The term biomass is notsomething conjured up out of amagician's hat for conveniencesake. Rather, it is a proper wordwith a specific meaning to it inmedical science. Two majormedical lexicons — Stedman'sMedical Dictionary (25th Edition)and Dorland's Illustrated MedicalDictionary (29th Edition) — bothoffer similar definitions for thisimportant word. BIOMASS is thetotal sum or entire assemblage ofliving things in a given area orparticular region, consideredcollectively.

Hence, in our further discussion ofbiomass minerals, we will beconsidering just plant-derivednutrients from an area nearFarmington, New Mexico, that areof very ancient origin and close tothe surface, versus animal-and-vegetal biomass that was buried alot deeper within the earth. Whenexcavated, both are black and havethe appearance of coal, but that'swhere the similarities end. Theformer can't be burned throughconventional methods, while thelatter nicely fuels the fires thatheat our buildings and keep uswarm in wintertime, as well as still serving to cook the foodsthat many cultures eat (mainlandChina being a good example for both).

The Indians of the time called it byvarious names in their nativedialects whenever they happened tocome upon partially exposedsurface deposits of the blackmaterial. The Spaniard had theirown phrase for it: "El carbon queon quema" ["The carbon that won'tburn!"] This was mentioned inpassing by Fray Benavides in amemorial he prepared in the year1630 and sent back to his religioussuperiors in Spain. This Catholicpadre or father had been appointedthe custos of all the missions thensituated throughout the NewMexico territory.

In the epistle he wrote, that afterthree decades of effort by the friarsin his province, he was able toreport fourteen monasteries, serving fifty-odd pueblos, eachwith its own school, where theIndians were all taught to sing, play musical instruments, and readand write. Besides these things, hesaid, "[They also learn] all thetrades and polite deportment," allimparted by "the great industry ofthe Religious who convertedthem."

In two bottom lines on the back ofone page, he reported of someNative Americans finding a blacksubstance "similar to carbon fuel"near the desert surface in onelocale, that "refused to burn" whenseveral attempts were made to

ignite it for warming and cookingpurposes. In disgust, they tossed itaside, but brought several fist-sizedchunks to the learned padre forcloser inspection.

He too, described it as being themost "miserable specimen ofcarbon fuel" he had ever seenbecause it wouldn't burn likeregular coal should. However, being of a more curious andsomewhat scientific bent than hisIndian charges, he went furtherthan they did with his own simpleinvestigation instead ofabandoning it altogether out ofsheer disappointment and disgust. He pulverized some of thecarbonized material into powderand sprinkled it over some of hisfood, but reported tasting nodifference in the meals on which heput it.

However, if it hadn't been for anunfortunate circumstance that hadrecently happened to him, it wouldprobably have soon been discarded, even by such a smart cleric ashimself. He had accidentallybrushed one of his scandaled feetagainst the side of a low growingcactus a short while before this, receiving some of its prickly hairsin to his flesh. Most of these hadalready been extricated with theexception of a couple that had gonedeeper into the skin. This sooncaused festering to set in.

The idea occurred to him one dayas he sat resting his limp foot, tosprinkle some of the crushed, blackpowder of this "fuel that won'tburn" over the troubled area. Hedid this for several days insuccession and reported, to his ownamazement, that all of the purulentmatter issuing forth from theinjury had promptly ceased.Furthermore, the infection clearedup and "the skin became newagain." He attributed this stroke of inspiration to the HeavenlyPowers with whom he regular-ly communed, and claimedmiraculous healing properties tothis black substance. (Thepreceding information came fromthe Spanish narratives he wrote, theEnglish title of which is "TheMemorial of Fray Benavides in TheSpanish-Controlled Southwest."Some of his history has been citedin Bolton and The SpanishBorderlands. Published by theUniversity of Oklahoma Press atNorman in 1964.)

No further mention of this"unburnable" coal-like substancewould appear in print for severalmore centuries until the editor ofThe San Juan Times inFarmington, brought it to light in1894. Fred E. Holt made passingreference to a "black mineralsurface deposit" that somewandering miners had come upon, attempted to use for fueling a fire, but then quit in disgust shortlythereafter "while filling the airwith unprintable oaths andprofanities!"

In order to understand how thisamazing collection of biomassminerals was formed, we need totake a journey back in time – wayback to the distant past. If weaccept geological calculations, thenit would be measured in thehundreds of millions of years; butfor those of the creationistpersuasion, the considerablyshorter Biblical period of some6,000 years would be morecomfortably accepted. Either way,the formation of such biomassminerals took place a very longtime ago.

In those long ago eras, conditionswere ideal for the prolific growth offorests. The climate was tropicaland the trees grew in extensiveswamps similar to the present-dayjungles in such places as theAmazon basin and the IrrawaddyDelta of Myanmar (formerlyBurma). Much of New Mexico atthat time resembled a tropical rainforest as hard as that may seem tobelieve.

Under such conditions, growth isvery rapid. Dead trees and plantdebris falling into the swampsquickly became water-logged, andaccumulated on the bottom. Thestagnant swamp waters containedlittle oxygen, inhibiting the actionof bacteria which would normallyinduce the vegetation to decay.Instead, the leaves and other softparts gradually turned into a dark,jelly-like humus.

This impregnated the harder, morewoody plant debris until the endresult is a layer of peat. (In presentday swamps, peat layers up to 30feet thick have been found.) This formed the initial biomassminerals in discussion here, as wellas the first stage of true coaldevelopment. But additional layersof peat and more weight pressurefrom upper layers, as well as thefurther enrichment with carbon, water, and certain volatile gassessuch as methane, become necessaryconstituents in the eventualformation of burnable coal.

According to geologists, the earthwas in a general state of unrestduring the Upper Carboniferoustimes when both biomass mineralsand actual coal fuel were formed.Fluctuating periods of earthmovement caused gradualsubsistence of the massive rainforests then covering the planet. There were, however, occasionalperiods of rapid subsidence inwhich the sea frequently floodedthe forests and accumulating peatbeds.

In late 2004, I was given a bird's-eye view of the vast desert countrylaying between Farmington andAlbuquerque from a low-flyingaircraft. As I carefully surveyed theinteresting and sometimes weird-looking topography below me, Ifound sufficient evidence toindicate that lakes, rivers, and evensmall seas had once covered large

portions of this huge area. Thepresence of several near-surfaceopen mines that looked like formedcoal deposits could also be seen in afew places. My host reminded methrough my earphones that it wasactually biomass mineral mines Iwas seeing and not true coal by anymeans.

The forests that once stood in thissection of New Mexico, occupiedlarge territories of swamp landthrough which rivers and streamsflowed. When they merged withthe sea, the rivers formed extensivedeltas which were colonized byforests. As rapid subsidence tookplace, the plants becamesubmerged, and thick mud wasdeposited on top of the forests, burying and compacting the firstfew layers of peat. When rapidsubsidence ceased, the sea levelremained much the same, but the

waters became shallower as riverscarried down more sediments.

Eventually so much sedimentaccumulated that sandbanks andmud flats appeared above waterlevel. These were quicklycolonized by plants and soonbecame new swampy forests. Thepeat formation cycle commencedanew, continuing until anotherrapid subsidence flooded the area, starting the whole cycle all overagain. With such a sequence ofevents known as cyclicsedimentation, came humic matter. And with that fulvic acid, the all-important chelator for making suchbiomass minerals readily availableand quickly usable, not only insidethe human and animal bodies, butalso within the very soils that growour basic crop foods.

The chemistry of biomass mineralsdepend partly on the compositionof the original surface deposit andpartly on changes caused byexternal influences of theenvironment. The most notablechanges are those that take placenot far from the surface, butchanges also occur in the deeperparts of the surface deposit onwhich the biomass minerals hasbeen developed. The materials thatconstitute the ground in which allof this happens are of six principalkinds:

1. Tiny fragments of primaryrock-forming minerals.

2. Secondary minerals derived byweathering and alteration ofthe primary ones.

3. Living organisms.4. Dead organic matter in various

stages of decomposition.5. Water.6. Air.

All of these are variables. Not onlydo they differ from one biomassmineral deposit to another, buteven within an individual store, allbut the first of these variables maychange in response to changes inexternal conditions (humidity, temperature, barometric pressure, earth movement, and the like). The outstanding feature of thegeochemistry of such biomassdeposits is that they undergovirtually continuous change.

The minerals that comprise suchrich biomass are primary (rock-forming minerals) and secondary(trace elements) in nature. It isinteresting to observe that justeight elements compose the bulk ofthese minerals and representroughly 90 percent (by weight) ofthe biomass nutrients.

The secondary components of thisbiomass consist of numerous traceelements which collectivelyrepresent the remaining 10.3percent of mineral nutrients.Though they are many and theirquantities considerably minute, yetthey actually constitute some of themore significant elements thatgives this entire biomass its

It hasn't been easy for geologistsand geochemists to specificallybreak down the remaining traceelements in mineral biomass andassign them approximatepercentages by weight as was donewith the more common elementscited in Table 1. There are anumber of different factors whichmake such a thing very difficult toundertake, with two of them beingtime and labor costs.

However, I have been able toassemble a rough list of some traceelements form several differentpublished sources with theirapproximate quantities in threepounds of mined pulverizedbiomass powder. Table 3 reflectsthe general order of abundance thatmight be expected.

As one agronomist, formerly withthe United States Department ofAgriculture (USDA), but longsince retired, once observed: "Thefulvic acid found in humus is reallythe heart and soul of any decayedorganic mater. No matter whatelse might be said about thebenefits of humic matter, whetherancient or modern, it is thepresence of fulvic acid that makesall the difference in the world whenit comes to suitable field-cropproduction and wise soilmanagement."

The same may be said for humanand animal health but in a differentway. If food crops intended forman or beast are grown inrelatively weak soils, then they, too, will be enervated to varyingextents. In the end people andlivestock which consume suchedibles will be poorly nourishedand not receive all of the nutrientsthat are necessary for vitality andstamina.

Proper nutrition begins with thesoil where food crops are grownand harvested. These differentedibles partake of the mineralrichness which the strong soilprovides. Finally, when they areconsumed by man and beast alike, they impart of their greatnutritional value to the differentliving bodies into which theyultimately go. Strength and vigor

are the results and manifestthemselves in a number of ways, but which can be defined by onecommonly shared denominatoramong all: NONE OF THEMARE SICK OR ENFEEBLED!

It all starts with humus, organicmatter that has decayed to arelatively stable, amorphous state. It is an important biologicalconstituent of fertile soil andancient mineral biomass. Humusis formed by the decomposingaction of soil microorganisms (e.g.,bacteria and fungi), which breakdown animal and vegetal materialsinto elements that can be used bygrowing plants and living creaturessuch as ourselves and the animals ofthe world with whom we sharesome of our living space.Technically speaking, however, humus, as the end result of thisprocess, is less valuable for plantgrowth and the maintenance ofhuman and animal health than arethe products formed during activedecomposition. Because of its lowspecific weight and high surfacearea, humus has a profound effectupon the physical properties ofmineral soils and prehistoricbiomass with regard to improvedstructure, resistance to erosion, andan uncanny ability to retainchemical elements in a form that isreadily accessible to plants, people, and the animals on which they

depend for food, clothing andcomfort.

Now fulvic acid enters the pictureduring the decaying process oforganic matter. It is a naturalderivative of the microbialdegradation responsible for humusand ancient mineral biomass. With the possible exceptions of airand water, there is probably nosubstance more vital to life ingeneral than the fulvic acid foundin humus and mineral biomass.Fulvic acid enters into the lifefunction of plants, people, andanimals in a number of differentways. It enables cells to normallyreproduce. It helps stop thebiochemical rampage induced byfree radicals out of typicalscavenger hunts for missingelectrons they seize without noticefrom other normal molecules.Fulvic acid is involved in thetransport of life-giving nutrients, the delicate balancing of bodyelectrolytes, numerous enzyme-mineral reactions, and, mostimportantly, the steady rechargingof electrical currents that keepdifferent biological systemsoperating smoothly without theshort-circuiting worries that illnessor death bring on.

Long before it acquired its nameand became generally recognizedby most scientists in the last half ofthe 20th century, fulvic acid wasknown only to a handful ofEuropean researchers, whomentioned it in their university

classes and wrote up little tractsand articles about it which werepublished in limited runs orappeared in esoteric academicpublications. It was broadlyconsidered by this handful ofresearchers to be "the life essence"in humus. They declared that thisis what always gives humate-enriched soils their wonderfulgrowing properties. Theymaintained that food crops grownin such soils, will automaticallypass on this same "life givingessence" to the people and animalswho regularly consume them.

Probably no one did as muchinvestigation of humate's "lifeessence" factor in the first decade ofthe last century, as was done by ElieMetchnikoff, a scientist associatedwith the famous Pastuer Institutein Paris, France, and celebrated forhis writings on this new discoverywithin humus. The valuableinformation which he provided, has been translated from Frenchinto English and appears here forthe very first time. This importantdata was extrapolated for theBulletin de l'Institut ge´ne´ralpsychologique (1904), the RevuePhilomatique de Bordeaux et duSud-Ouest (1904), the Revue deMois (1904), and Ostwald'sAnnalen der Naturphilosophie(1904).

What is remarkable about hisobservations is that he interwovescientific fact with naturalphilosophy, which gave his

Page 15: 5.5x8.5 for web · By their definition, minerals are defined as naturally occurring inorganic solids, ... miraculous healing properties to this black substance. (The preceding information

14

material more of an elegance thatwhat the average scientist of hisday might have draped it in. Theheart of Metchnikof's work drawsan association between poor soilsand the health and behavior ofpeople and animals closely linkedto the crop yields from them, thatis clear and unmistakable. In hiscareful observations, he noticedthat the peasants and livestockfrom small farming communities, which enjoyed humus-enriched soilseemed to be in much morethriving conditions than thoseliving on marginally subsistentground.

The former were more physicallyrobust, mentally alert, and vitallyactive, while the latter showed lessdesirable physiques, displayedlesser cognitive functions, anddemonstrated reduced vitality intheir overall behavior. Heattributed these astonishingdifferences to the food crops grownin the two different soil types:Crops from humus soil imparted a"life essence" which was directlyderived from the dark, organicmatter itself, while food fromground deprived of humus yieldedlesser nutrients.

His descriptions for both peopleand their livestock benefittingfrom foods grown in humus soil, share a number of commondenominators. The skins and coatsof both were of much healthierappearance and shine. The mentalalertness in both farmers and their

work horses were much higher. The reproduction rates in farmwomen and female animals(including cows, hogs, chickens, and geese) were double or triplewhat they were in other villageswith poor ground. There wereconsiderably less infectiousdiseases, too, because of strongerimmune defenses. And people andanimals seemed to live longer thanusual.

"There is a definite prolongation oflife in those who consume foodsgrown in soils containingconsiderable decayed vegetablematter," he noted. "For the soilhumus imparts a life essence toman and beast alike that nourishedand enlivens."

This "life essence", he went on torecord, invigorates not only thebiological systems of men andanimals, but it also "is anexhilarating force for good thatrekindles noble desires and inspiresthe best of emotions." He declaredthat not only good minds andbodies were forthcoming from cropfoods raised in humus soil, but alsothat virtues like courage, patienceand obedience could be detected aswell. His melding of science withphilosophy resulted in some ratherunique claims. He said that men"formerly possessed of shy orcowardly natures" soon becamebolder and braver having subsistedon humus soil-grown foods. Andeven beasts of burden such as oxenand big work horses performed

Page 16: 5.5x8.5 for web · By their definition, minerals are defined as naturally occurring inorganic solids, ... miraculous healing properties to this black substance. (The preceding information

their labors much better, "Withgreater consistency and more eventemperaments, showing increasedsubmissions to their masters" thanwhat may have been evidencedbefore.

Thus, we see from the publishedstudies and writing of one greatscientist, who lived almost acentury ago, that "the life essence"of humus soil, since identified asbeing fulvic acid, is capable ofreanimating the growing vigor inagricultural earth, which, in turn, revitalizes those food crops grownin it. They, in turn, whenconsumed, exert wonderfullyrevitalizing powers on thebiological systems of manydifferent life forms.

Fulvic acid is one of the mostimportant keys to health, happiness, and longevity, be it inman or animal, and is critical to therenewal of all physical, mental, andemotional forces contained therein. For without it, animation of anykind is just average and managesonly a shallow existence. But withfulvic acid present in humus soil, organic food, and active creatures ofall kinds, including ourselves, thereis a real 'spark of life' that changesthe way everything behaves for thebetter and maintains a biologicalintegrity that surpasses allscientific understanding.

We, at last, have come full circle interms of health restoration throughbiomass minerals. Whether it bethe ground we walk on and grownthings in or our own unique bodieswith their individualizedchemistries or members of theanimal kingdom who serve us withtheir labor, love, and even lives fornourishment's sake, everythingbecomes better when prehistoricbiomass is added to their regimen.

Morningstar Minerals ofFarmington, New Mexico is theonly company I know of that canoffer products of such promisebased on ancient, compressed, vegetal matter that has theappearance of coal but the vitalityof elemental nutrition packed intoevery single particle of itswonderful substance. The traceelements are many and minute, while the fulvic acid present is thereal igniter that incites a renewal ofbiochemical life and vitality atmolecular and cellular levels.

No other mineral solution that Iam aware of is capable of doingthis, at least not to the degree andwith the extraordinary powerembodied in the black biomassmined and manufactured byMorningstar. Appearance-wise, itcan sometimes show up as "theugly duckling" of nutritionals, having the color of dark ink andthe particle consistency of copy

toner powder. Yet, like the ill-favored baby bird in Aesop's fable, that no one wanted on account ofits homely features, it eventuallygrew into a beautiful swan ofgraceful proportions.

So then in like comparison is thismineral biomass of which I speak, that Morningstar has madeavailable for human and animalhealth needs and soil enrichmentpurposes. It goes without sayingthat often the best things in life, almost pass before us withoutmuch notice, until our attention isdirected towards them for closerexamination or a second look as itwere. The unknown writer, thebudding musician or artist, or thenatural-born actor, are all justwaiting to be discovered bysomeone, in order for theirparticularly creative talents to bewell-publicized so that society maybenefit from what they have tooffer us.

It is no different with theprehistoric biomass whichMorningstar offers to the world foragricultural and human healthneeds. The case of basic mineralsand supporting retinue of traceelements surround the leadperformer — fulvic acid — andefficiently discharge their variouslyassigned nutritional roles indifferent biological scenarios withmagnificent perfection.

Take, for example, a discovery thatI made during the winter monthsof December, 2004 throughFebruary 2005, when my schedulecalled for a number of trips to meetvarious speaking engagements atseveral important scientificconferences around the country.Though I am careful in my diet andpersonal lifestyle habits so as not toget sick (which is very seldom, Imight add), yet the normal stressesroutinely associated with extensivetravel and the meeting of manypeople, can still have a debilitatingeffect upon even the healthiest ofbodies.

Thus, it was that I found myselfwith a rather annoying head coldthat started out as a sinus infection.Knowing the route that such aproblem ordinarily travels via a sorethroat and finally into severelycontested lungs, I didn't wantanother recurrence of this whole, uncomfortable scenario dutifullyplaying itself out within my body. So, I resorted to drinking twicedaily, morning and evening, half ofan 8 oz. glass of Vitality Boost HAMineral Supplement fromMorningstar for about a weekstraight.

It provided moments of comicrelief, besides health rejuvenation.A New York City doctor saw medoing this one morning atbreakfast, while we both dined atthe Brooklyn Bridge Marriott

Hotel, and asked somewhatsarcastically, "What are youdrinking this morning, blacksludge from the East River?"Without batting an eye or missinga beat, I retorted in similar style,"No it's liquid coal from NewMexico!" He chuckled and Igrinned. Then I got serious andinformed him of what it really was.He sampled a little of it and wassurprised by its tastelessness. I toldhim that by drinking the quantitiesI did each day for a week now, I hadbeen able to contain my head coldso that it didn't progress beyondmy sinuses as typically happens. Hereacted to all of this with moderateamazement, a slight shrug of theshoulders and the rather dismissivestatement, "Well, don't that beatall to heck!" And there his interestended, but knowing the man aswell as I do, I wouldn't haveexpected anything else beyond this.

However, for those many otherswho aren't locked into cages of self-imposed bias towards anythingthey don't fully comprehend ortotally believe in, let me say thatthis particular product is the finestorganic mineral supplement you'llever come across! I have arranged some of the healthbenefits which scientists and othershave detected from this mineralbiomass solution in Table 4. Theyhelp to illustrate the dynamicsynergy flowing between a widevariety of useful trace elements and

the premier nutrient, fulvic acid, which revitalizes everything withwhich it comes in contact. To fullycomprehend the importance ofminerals one must understand thecomposition of the human body.

TABLE 4The effects of biomass minerals and fulvic acid

on plants, people,and animals.

THE SOIL Humus minerals provide the soil with the essentialnutrients it needs. By virtue of their binding actions, humus minerals help stabilize loose soils againsterosion, increase the friability of stiff, tight soils(they make them crumbly and easier to work), andprovide pore space relationships that favor the readymovement of air and water through these soils.

Humus particles are negatively charged, and aretherefore able to hold cations in adsorbed form. Thisis of benefit to plant growth where the adsorbedcations are essential plant nutrients. Humus alsocontains organically bound minerals that are time-related for plant use. Because of its contribution toplant nutrition it is small wonder that prehistoricbiomass/humus can be such a highly valued part ofthe soil! (R.L.Hausenbuiller, Soil Science: Principles andPractices (Dubuque, Iowa: Wm. C. Brown Co.)

Forest soils that yield up the best hardwoods forlumber needs, are comprised of considerable humusin which there is on-going microbial activity. Theresulting fulvic acid greatly influences thedistribution and assimilation of various mineralnutrients into tree root systems. The response ofsuch hardwood species to such enriched soils makethem highly-prized and more eagerly sought of thanlumber trees grown in poorer soils. (The Yearbook ofAgriculture 1957: Soil (Washington, D.C.: The United StatesDepartment of Agriculture and The United States PrintingOffice; 85th Congress, 1st Session, House Document Number 30)

The health of the tree is all important indetermining its growth. The best trees thrive on soilthat is full of humus and humic acid. These insureample girth and size, as well as strong root systems, good bark, and healthy leaves. Limbs and branchesemanating from the main trunk tend to be straighterand longer as a rule. TABLE 4(continued)

The effects of biomass minerals and fulvic acid on plants, people, and animals.

THE HUMAN BODY The use of human donor tissue in different surgicalprocedures is quite common these days, but notwithout certain obvious drawbacks. Some of themare: rejection by the recipient's own body; the riskof disease transfer (AIDS and hepatitis) to the tissuerecipient; prolongation of surgical time and woundhealing. Surgeons in Freiburg, Germany (formerlyEast Germany) hospital experimented with fulvicacid from mineral biomass by impregnating animalbone implants with some of it before surgery tookplace. Each of the human recipients showed quickerrecovery and body acceptance of the animal bonematerials, and considerably less infection risks, thandid others receiving similar transplants but withoutthe benefit of mineral biomass fulvic acid. Whatthis suggests is that tissue regeneration and immunesystem functions are greatly enhanced in thepresence of fulvic acid. (Archives of Orthopedic &Trauma Surgery 112:275-279, a German medicaljournal, 1993)

The previous experiment also demonstrated fulvicacid's remarkable ability to assist in mineralresorption. The animal bones used were in the formof inorganic calcium compounds (specifically bovinecalcium hydroxyapartirte) were well tolerated byrecipient's bodies, but showed no signs of beingreabsorbed until fulvic acid had been introducedinto the bone materials just prior to implantation.Once the fulvic acid had nicely bonded with thecalcium-containing compounds, body resorptionand bone regeneration occurred simultaneously.

This interesting medical study clearly shows animportant role for fulvic acid in regard to allminerals in general. If your particular mineralsupplement is lacking this critical fulvic acidsubstance, then the chances are pretty good that

THE HUMAN BODY most of your supplemental minerals are not beingfully utilized, nor properly absorbed or resorbed. Inmy long and illustrious medical career, I have hadthe good fortune of meeting some of the so called'research giants', who's pioneering works foreverchanged the world of health science. Among thesehave been the American chemist Linus Pauling(twice Nobel laureate), the Canadian physician HansSelye (stress research) and the American biochemistAlbert Szent-Gyorgi (Nobel laureate for theisolation of vitamin C).

In the latter part of October 1975 (just 11 yearsbefore his demise), Dr. Szent-Gyorgi hosted a smallbut important international conference on cancertheories, held over the weekend of October 25-26,1975 at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute inCape Cod, Mass. where he kept his research lab. Adistinguished colleague of mine who was attending, invited me along at the last moment. This eventturned out to be a real information treat for me inwhat was discussed.

Dr. Szent-Gyorgi proposed a entirely new theory forthe cause of cancer and blamed the disease onbioelectrical 'shorts' in the human body caused bysub-atomic oddities which he labeled as 'freeradicals'. (This was probably one of the very firsttimes when these mischievous molecules wereintroduced to a few media people who were presentto report on the highlights of this conference. For amore complete report on this aspect of his theory, seeLoretta McLauglin's fine article, "A radical newtheory of cancer" in the Boston Sunday Herald Advertiser,October 26, 1975, Sec 5, A-1.)

The then 82-year-old scientist proposed ways inwhich he believed that cancer could be easilythwarted in its earliest developmental stages.

TABLE 4 (continued)

The effects of biomass minerals and fulvic acid on plants, people, and animals.

THE HUMAN BODY Among these were organic minerals and humus-grown vegetable root crops such as potatoes, celery, radishes, and yams. He speculated that humatecarried an electrical charge within itself that wasautomatically transferred to the organic foods grownin its enriched soil base, particularly vegetable roots. From there, the same electrical charge was nexttransferred into the human bodies of those whoconsumed such staples either raw (celery sticks, beetsalad) or else lightly cooked (baked potato, steamedyam).

Once inside the human body, humate-derivedelectrical substance restored normal bio-electrical'shorts' routinely induced by free radicals. Heproposed the following pathways by which hebelieved this was accomplished.

As he saw it, "cells must have two basic states", analpha and beta, or "state one and two." The alphaperiod is characterized by rapid, uncontrolled andundifferentiated cell growth. (Cancer cellsessentially remain locked in this turbulent stage dueto the wild, electrical gyrations or 'shorts' producedby free radicals.)

Normal cells move into the beta phase, wherewhole, unbridled proliferation has been replacedwith the harmony of even electrical flow. In thistranquil state cells can then perform their manycomplex functions. The steady electrical currentcommon to humate matter and edibles grown inhumate-enriched soils, is transferrable to the bodywhen such root foods are ingested, and restoresnormal bioelectrical flow by shutting down theelectrical 'shorts' caused by free radicals.

In other words, Dr. Szent-Gyorgi was claiming thatthe even electrical charges provided by certain root

THE HUMAN BODY vegetables grown in soils enriched by organicbiomass, are capable of 'shutting down' the wildelectrical behavior of free radicals by restoringelectron mobility and a beta-phase normalcy for allcells to thrive in.

There was considerably mixed debate over some ofhis views. No one present was about to label one ofthe world's most distinguished scientist as a 'quack',either publicly or privately. Kinder terms for thisgentle man of science were used instead, such aseccentric, for instance. As several eminentresearchers present quietly observed with a few of usduring one of several break sessions, "Albert hasalways been one step ahead of the rest of us. Whathe's pursing right now with regard to these sub-atomic oddities he calls free radicals, is being done sopurely on intuition. He's definitely far ahead of histime." With what has been discovered in the last 30years concerning free radicals, at least part of Szent-Gyorgi's cancer theory doesn't seem so radical anymore. As for the rest of it, only time and morescientific research will demonstrate its correctnessand ultimately validate this Nobel laureate'srevolutionary views.

THE ANIMAL BODY A respected California veterinarian by the name ofDr. Charles S. Hansen, conducted a number orexperiments on a variety of animal livestock usingeither fulvic acid alone or a mineral biomass mixtureof fulvic and humic acids.

With a herd of dairy cows supplemented thusly, there were no bacterial or viral infections. In 3months, the butterfat production in the milk from300 cows, dramatically increased by 15 percent. Asubsequent reduction in high-protein feed showedno decrease in overall milk production. Feed was

THE ANIMAL BODY digested more easily. Cows suffering from mastitiswere treated with one pint of biomass fulvic acidsolution and recovered to full milk production in 12to 24 hours. On the other hand, conventionalantibiotic therapy resulted in just a 50 to 70 percentrecovery but only after a 2 to 3 week waiting period. Veterinarian Hansen noticed that when hogs weregiven a combination of biomass fulvic and humicacids in solution form, that feed digestionsubstantially improved, thereby reducing porcineobesity. Also numerous intestinal worms wereejected in animal feces within a 36-hour period. Themineral biomass solution also cleared up necro, aform of bloody diarrea common to pig raising.Furthermore, this California veterinarian found thatwhen caged mink were put on this biomass solutionof fulvic and humic acids, their temperamentssurprisingly evened out; they went from beingnormally vicious to becoming quite docile. Andbecause there was improved digestion, most of themink showed remarkable skin health, making theirvaluable furs more glossy and beautiful than before. And finally, Hansen's results with poultry, againusing a biomass extract of fulvic and humic acids, showed significant reductions in intestinal parasitesand general diseases. The improved digestion ofpullet feeds also yielded eggs of superior shellhardness and quality in laying hens.

The data in the previous tableclearly shows some of the manyhealth benefits which can beachieved in soil and human andanimal biological systemswhenever the fulvic and humicacids from mineral biomass areused in powdered form or liquidsolution. There is no denying thefact that full health restoration for

poor ground and poor bodies iswithin our grasp and quiteaffordable, provided that propermineral source is consistently used. This, of course, is one that containsminute amounts of fulvic acid that'electrifies' all of the trace elementsaccompanying it so that they maybe properly and totally utilized formaximum good.

We have learned so far that therenewal of health in soil andhuman bodies can only besuccessfully achieved with theconsistent supplementation ofbiomass minerals containing fulvicacid and other helpful nutrients.Anything less than this will onlybe half-hearted and yield mediocreresults at best. MorningstarMinerals of Farmington, NewMexico has the ideal source forsuch quality trace elements.

Better still, though, they have itavailable in liquid form! The waterused has been subjected to reverseosmosis, deionization, and carbonfiltration. But more importantly, the large array of helpful nutrientshave been put into a liquid, whichis much more beneficial to thebody than capsules or tabletswould be.

Not too long ago I happened uponan interesting university textbookdevoted exclusively to nutrition ata local Salt Lake City thrift store, which I duly purchased for ameasly dollar. EntitledPerspectives in Nutrition (4thEdition) and authored by GordonM. Wardlaw, Ph.D. (New York:WCB/Mcgraw-Hill, 1999) itcontained something that no othernutrition textbook, to myknowledge, has had.

While randomly flipping throughthe book, Chapter 13 and itsintriguing title, "Water and theMajor Minerals", promptly caughtmy eye and held my interest for anumber of minutes. The authorintroduced this particular chapterwith a very brief discussion on theimportance of water in the humanbody. Then he drew an immediateassociation with this very versatilemedium for a variety of chemicalreactions and minerals!

He correctly noted that our bodiesconstantly crave water and thatwithout it on a regular basis, all"biological processes necessary tolife would cease in a matter ofdays." And since our bodies can'tstore water per se like camels andother animals do, we keepexperiencing thirst when thereisn't enough inside of us to satisfy.

Likewise, a number of "mineralsexist in the body dissolved inwater," he goes on to write. And"because the functioning ofminerals is related to thecharacteristics of water," hecontinues, "water and its roles inthe body must be exploredsimultaneously with trace elementsand not separately."

What seems pretty ordinary andquite sensible from a distance, is

actually rather profound uponexamining the matter more closely. In all of the many nutrition booksthat I have perused over the years, this is the only one I've ever foundthat married both water andminerals together within the samechapter. And while a number ofthese other texts have mentionedthe need for water in passing, anddevoted more space, of course, tothe need for minerals, yet none ofthem ever combined the pair as thisauthor so wisely did.

Because of space constraints it isnecessary for me to radicallyabbreviate the information heprovided over some 33 pages intojust a few pages here. But thepurpose for doing so is to show tothe reader that organic mineralscannot be properly utilized with inthe body unless they areaccompanied by adequate water atthe time of ingestion! MorningstarMinerals has always believed in thissame concept, which is why theirVitality Boost HA and EnergyBoost 70 Mineral Supplementsautomatically comes in a solutionform for maximum assimilation.

This Ohio State Universityprofessor of nutrition and medicaldietetics, points out that at amolecular level, water is highlypolar. This is because the positivecharges tend to be located near thehydrogens and the negative charges

near the oxygen. For those who likecomplexity, I've allowed a littlespace below for the initial formulato be reproduced thusly:

Because of this, water can dissolvemost substances, and in doing so itenables organic minerals and otherchemicals to react in the body.

Furthermore, if the mineralsthemselves originate from ancientbiomass or humus materials ofsome kind that contain fulvic acid, then they too, meaning theelements, become charged in theirown way. So if charged biomassminerals are combined withpolarized water and simultaneouslyingested, there is going to be anotable increase at a cellular level,of overall body bioelectricity.Another way of looking at it, theauthor reported (referring just towater and major minerals) is likeusing a pair of conventional jumpercables to jump-start a weak carbattery. In this case, however, thewater and minerals represent thetwo ends of the jumper cables, butcarrying their own charges.

So when polarized water andbiomass minerals meet in the samesolution, their combined charges

Page 29: 5.5x8.5 for web · By their definition, minerals are defined as naturally occurring inorganic solids, ... miraculous healing properties to this black substance. (The preceding information

Biomass Minerals • A New Look at Elemental Nutrition

28

automatically boost the body's ownbioelectrical current. And sincewater always flows in and out ofbody cells through membranes, whatever minerals are with it willdo likewise.

It isn't necessary to detail heremuch of what Dr. Wardlaw wasdiscussing. The cherry-pickingapproach I've adopted instead, provides us with the importantinformation needed to support amineral solution instead of amineral supplement in tablets orcapsules. But even then, thesolution must contain fulvic andhumic acids from prehistorichumate material to really beeffective within the body.Anything less than this is wastedin terms of nutrients and cost.

The movement of water across acellular membrane occurs bysimple diffusion. Little of thisoccurs, however, due to its highlipid (fat) content. Rather, certainproteins in cell membranes act as'channels' through which water canmove. Besides this, cell membranespossess an extremely sophisticatedgatekeeping system that makesthem selectively permeable tomany electrolytes as well as othercompounds. By use of suchmechanisms in addition to osmoticprocess, cells maintain theirintracellular (inside) water volume

and electrolyte concentrationswithin quite narrow ranges.

Certain major minerals that areeither positive or negative ions, endup pairing with each other.Intracellular water volume pri-marily depends on this andminerals like potassium, phos-phorus, and chlorine. Extracellular(outside) water volume dependsmostly on extracellular mineralssuch as sodium and chlorineconcentrations.

Then besides balancing theelectrolyte concentrations betweenthe inside and outside of cells, bodycells must also balance electrolytecharges. If a negative electrolyteenters a cell, a positive electrolytemust likewise enter, or else anothernegative electrolyte has to vacatethe premises.

The more charged that mineralsand water become, the moredynamic is the state for electrolytebalancing and cellular harmony. Abiomass mineral solution is goingto achieve these rather trickyevents a lot more quickly andmaintain them longer thanordinary minerals and averagewater. Just imagine what else couldbe accomplished within the body ifelectrically-activated oxygen inliquid form were ever added to thissolution. Plans are underway toeventually combine ancient

biomass mineral solution and astrong electrically-activated liquidoxygen from Australia forrekindling body energy andstamina. These dual ingredientswould obviously raise the bar onnutritional reanimation in amighty big way that's never beforebeen attempted. MorningstarMinerals has looked at this conceptfrom different angles and with theirAustralian counterparts, believe itis achievable with the technology athand. This is one of the excitingnew developments scheduled in thenext little while.

Because of its unique chemical andphysical characteristics, water playsseveral key roles in metabolicprocesses. Water functions in acouple of ways within the body'sown chemical factory. For onething, it acts as a solvent for manydifferent chemical compounds. Foranother, it provided a medium inwhich numerous chemical reactionstake place. And it also activelyparticipates as a reactant or productin some reactions.

When minerals are present withpolarized water, their charges seemto play off each other to helpregulate temperature better, assistin the removal of waste products, help form the lubricants found in

the knees and other joints, andmanage to produce saliva, bile, andamniotic fluid. (The latter acts asan important shock absorbersurrounding the growing fetus.)Electrolyte concentrations vary ineach fluid compartment toaccommodate specific needs, suchas maintenance of a specific rangein PH.

When sufficient water is lacking, the body will let its owner know bysignaling thirst. The brain iscommunicating the need to drinkBut if this thirst message for morewater is ignored, or harmful liquidssuch as alcohol, coffee, and softdrinks are substituted instead, then the body initiates fluidconservation measures throughdifferent glands and organs, whichdon't need to be elaborated on herefor the time being. Suffice it to say,the more water that is lost via theinsensible routes — feces, skin andlungs — the more fatigued andlethargic will the body become. And these wearying conditions aregreatly enhanced when adequateminerals are missing as well.

In summary, water is absolutelyessential for proper mineralbioavailability. What this plainlymeans is that H2O provides thephysiological availability of any

Page 31: 5.5x8.5 for web · By their definition, minerals are defined as naturally occurring inorganic solids, ... miraculous healing properties to this black substance. (The preceding information

30

given trace element, as distinctfrom its chemical and nutritionalpotency. And even thoughminerals may be present in foods, they still are not bioavailableunless a body can absorb them. Theability to absorb minerals from adiet depends on many factors, butwater heads the list!

Biomass minerals are absorbedbetter, as a rule, than minerals fromother sources, provided thesehumate elements are encased inwater the whole time. Watergreatly assists in mineral-to-mineral interactions, in vitamin-to-mineral interactions, and infiber-to-mineral interactions.Water also provides a check-and-balance to certain toxicities thatcan arise from the excess intake ofisolated single or multipleminerals.

The cells and blood, and organssuch as the kidneys, all dependupon minerals with water, ratherthan the two taken alone atseparate intervals, in order tomaintain proper body functions atall times. This was the main pointcontinually reemphasized bynutritionist Wardlaw in the 13thchapter of his remarkable study,Perspective in Nutrition (4th Ed.)Only one supplement company hasbeen able to bring both together ina wonderful biomass mineralsolution that recharges the body

with different electrical forces that, over a period of time, can revitalizea flagging human system indesperate need of new fuelelements.

As a doctor it has been myprivilege to work in the NorthAmerican and World Health carearenas for close to three decadesnow in terms of nutrition, foodtherapy, and folk medicine. Myefforts have been singularly blessedby the Hand of Providence in waystoo numerous to mention here. Butin and through it all, I've been aninstrument in the hands of Grace,to help many, many souls achievebetter states of health with thatkind of information that will movethem in the right directions tomake this possibility a reality andnot just a dream.

It was more than just happenstanceor luck then that enabled me tofind a terrific source forinvigorating nutrients that couldachieve outstanding results. Whowould have thought that down inthe "Land of Enchantment", betterknown as New Mexico, out in thebarren, desert wastes as it were, could be found a surface miningoperation hauling out black chunksof an ancient material resemblingcoal, but which simply refuses toburn like the conventional stuffdoes.

However, in terms of what it hasbeen able to do within the soil andhuman and animal bodies, my ohmy, that's quite another matter, indeed! Just imagine how muchgood this wonderfully rich mineralbiomass has been able toaccomplish as THE BESTNUTRITIONAL FUEL ever madeby Nature. Why, the soil becomesconsiderably enlivened when someof this prehistoric humate is turnedinto it. Even the helpfulearthworms have cause to rejoicewhen the vibrant power from itselemental contents is keenly feltthroughout their dark and moistchambers. Not to mention howgrateful the farmers become whentheir grounds yield up unbelievablebumper crops of whatever iseventually harvested.

Human and animal bodies, ofcourse, will react in entirelydifferent ways when biomassminerals are introduced into theirrespective biological systems forthe very first time. Body cellsbecome marvelously reinvigoratedwith a subtle, electrical energy that is both real yet hard todefine. Whole systems in both lifeforms are miraculously transformedfrom just feeling average andbarely-getting-by, into dynamicstructures pulsating with elementalexcitement and teeming withmineral life. There is a sense of

physiological joy and biochemicalpurpose to life itself when suchunseen but clearly felt grand, health events occur.

Yet it all comes down to fist-sized chunks of compressed black, vegetal matter from very ancienthumic deposits. Enriched withminerals, amino acids, and fulvicand humic acids that were oncearranged in an orderly processamidst considerable chaos. Andnow being excavated in the 21stcentury for soil, human, and animalnutritional needs with thoughtfulintent and ingeniously marketedacross the whole planet.

Morningstar's biomass mineraldeposits are the alpha and omega ofhealth recovery and freedom fromsickness, and you don't need tounderstand Greek in order tocomprehend that. Its biomassminerals are the musical equivalentof Handel's Messiah, especially themore familiar "hallelujah" choruspart, when life returns to life, andeverything and everyone can get onwith the business of really livingagain. After all, this is what ourMaker intended for it to be. Andbiomass mineral exhilaration is thenutritional portal through whichthis can be easily accomplished andproperly maintained.
