REFLECTING on the GOSPEL as a FAMILY Matthew 15: 21-28 In today’s Gospel, Jesus heals the daughter of the Canaanite woman because of her

great faith.

Recall a time when a request of yours was rejected. What did it feel like to have your request rejected? What was your

response to this rejection? How does the woman respond to each of these rejections? The woman is successful be-

cause she remains confident that Jesus can and will help her. It is her faith that Jesus rewards by healing her

daughter. When we bring our needs to God in prayer, we should do so with confidence and faith,.

Jesus showed his disciples how important it is to share with others by performing a miracle. What can you share with others to help them?

My dear friends in Christ,

We welcome our visiting priest and deeply appreciate his kindness in accepting to celebrate the Sun-day eucharist for us. Your availability and willingness to cover the Masses in my absence solved a huge pas-toral need.

As we continue to be ravaged by the covid-19 pandemic, the Lord tells us in the gospel, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” After praying, Jesus came walking on the sea, to meet his disciples who were being rav-aged by the storm. Perhaps, they forgot to pray and were concentrating on the perilous wind that threat-ened them. Perhaps we forget to pray and entrust ourselves completely to God when faced with crisis. Or we develop doubts as Peter did when he touched his feet on the waters.

My brothers and sisters, there is power in prayers. Let us continue to pray for one another and for an end to the Coronavirus pandemic. Although I am not physically there with you for this Sunday’s eucharist, our brother priest who is presiding at Mass unites our community prayer unto God. The spirit power is able to form our prayer into one great supplication to the Father. Crisis and uncertainties may sway our faith but blessed are those who hold on until the end. We are more than conquerors. Courage!

I look forward to celebrating the eucharist with you again at the end of the month. Peace be with you all.

Very respectfully, Fr. Hilary
