set the water hardnessThe lights signaling the need to descale the appliance, aftera pre-set period of operation depends on the hardness of the water.Itispossibletoprogramthemachineaccordingtotheactualwaterhardnessinuseinthearea,thusmakingdescalinglessfrequent.Proceedasfollows:1. Remove the provided reactive strip “TOTAL HARDNESS

TEST”fromitspackaging.

enActivation of the water filter and filling of the water tank• Remove the filter from the packaging and rinse itwith

about17OZ/0.5Lofrunningwater(fig.2).• Turn the calendar disc (see fig. 3) until the following 2

monthsofusearedisplayed.

Please note the filter has a twomonth duration if the appliance is usednormally, whereas if the machine remains unused with thefilterinstalled,ithasamaximum3monthduration.• Removethewatertankandfillitwithfreshwater(donot

exceedtheMAXline)(fig.4).• Completelydipthefilterinthewater,tiltingittoenable

airbubblestocomeout(fig.5).• Insertthefilterintheappropriateseat(fig.6),pressdown

andclosethetankwiththelid.• Placethetankback intothemachine(Ensurethewater

levelisnotovertheMAXline)(fig.7).Thefilterisnowactivatedandthemachinecanbeused.

Appliance first use• Turn the appliance on by pressing the I/Omain switch

A3 at rear in pos. I: the appliance performs a self-test,signalledbythesequentialflashingofthelights.

• Oncetheself-testiscompleted,the“hotwaterspout”lightB8flasheswhiletheothersturn-off:theappliancesignalsitisnecessarytoinsertthehotwaterspout(fig.8).

• Place a container underneath the spoutwithminimumcapacityof100ml(fig.9).

• Pressthe“hotwater”button : deliverystartsandinterruptsautomatically.

• The coffee and water spout lights flash to indicate theapplianceisreachingtemperature:whenthelightsstopflashing and remain permanently on, the appliance isreadyforuse.

Please note: upon first use• Iflights and flash, press the button

again.• Upon first use, it is necessary to make 4-5 coffees or

4-5 cappuccinos before the machine gives a satisfyingresults.

button pressed until the lights turn-on, as in following table:

how to prepare espresso using ground coffee• Insertthefilterforgroundcoffee(D2orD3)inthefilter-

holder(fig.10).Usethefilter ifwantingtomakeone coffeeor thefilter ifwanting tomake2coffees.

• To prepare one coffee, fill the filter with one levelmeasuring spoon of ground coffee, about 0.24 oz./7 gr(fig. 11). If youwish to prepare two cups of coffee, fillthe filter with two less-than-level measuring spoonsof ground coffee (about0.48oz./7+7gr.). Fill thefiltera little at a time to prevent the ground coffee fromoverflowing.

Attention: For correct use, before filling the filter with ground coffeealwaysmakesurethereisnoresidualcoffeefromthepreviousinfusioninthefilter.• Distribute the ground coffee evenly and press it lightly

using the coffee tamper (fig. 12). Pressing the groundcoffee is very important to obtain a good espresso. Ifexcessivelypressed,thecoffeewillslowlyleakanditwillbe stronger.Whereas, if slightlypressed, the coffeewillcomeouttooquicklyandwillbelight.

• Removeanyexcesscoffeefromtherimofthefilter-holderand attach it to the machine: for correct attachment,align thefilter-holder handle to symbol OPEN (fig.13),attachthefilter-holderandturnhandletotheright,until aligned to position CLOSE(fig.14).

• Position the cup or cups under the filter-holder spouts(fig.15).Itisadvisedtoheatthecupsbeforemakingthecoffee,rinsingthemwithhotwater.

• Ensure the lights relative to the coffee buttons are on,press thecoffeebuttons ( or ): the appliance proceedsandinterruptsautomatically.

how to prepare espresso using pods

Please note: use pods that comply with the ESE Standard: this will beindicatedonthepackagingbythefollowingmark.

The ESE Standard is a system accepted byleadingcoffeepodmanufacturersandallowsespresso coffee to be made simply andwithoutmess.

• Insertthefilter forpodscoffee(D4 ) inthefilter-holder(fig.10).

• Insert the pod, centering it as close as possible on thefilter(fig.16).Alwaysfollowthe instructionsofthepodpackforcorrectpositioningofthepodinthefilter.

• Attach the filter-holder to the machine: for correctattachment,alignthefilter-holderhandletosymbolOPEN(fig.13),attachthefilter-holderandturnhandletothe right, until aligned to position CLOSE(fig.14).

Program the amount of coffee in the cupThe machine has been set by default to deliver standardamountsofcoffee.Ifyouwouldliketoamendtoamendthesequantities, proceed as follows:1. Placeacupunderthecoffeespout.2. Keep the button to be programmed ( or )

pressed.Themachinestartsdeliveringcoffee.3. Assoonasthewantedamountofcoffeeincupisreached,

releasethebutton:deliverystops.The machine is now re-programmed according to the newamount.

Warmer cup (fig. 32)Thewarmercupcanbeswitchedonbypushingthe but-ton:leavethecupsontheapplianceaslongastheyarewarm.Thisisusefultohavewarmercoffee.

Important! When the appliance turns to low power function or stand-by thecupwarmer isstillonuntilyoudon’tpressthebuttontoswitchitoff.Payattentionnottotouchitasitishot.

how to prepare milk-based drinksToavoidmilkwithpoorfrothorlargebubbles,alwayscleanthelidofthemilkandthehotwaternozzleasdescribedinthe“cle-aningthemilkcontainer”atpage13.1. Removethelid(fig.17);2. Fillthemilkcontainerwithsufficientamountofmilk,not

exceedingthemaximumof0.5l(fig.18).Rememberthateverynotchon the sideof the container corresponds to100mlofmilk.

Please note! • For a more dense and homogenous froth, It is

recommendedtouseskimmilkatrefrigeratortemperature(about41°F/5°C).

3. Makesurethemilkintaketubeiscorrectlyinsertedinthebottomofthemilkcontainerlid(fig.19).

• Once delivery is completed, if wanting to increase theamountofmilkorcoffeeinsidethecup,keepthebutton(within a few seconds) relative to the preparation inprogresspressed.

• Donotleavethemilkcontaineroutoftherefrigeratorfortoolong:thehigherthemilktemperature(41°F/5°Cisideal),thepoorerthequalityofthefroth.
