5G RAN:• Industrial IoT

• Support of identified vertical use cases with enhanced IIoT/URLLC technologies. Investigating connectivity requirements from most relevant use cases (hopefully getting input from vertical partners/operators) e.g. higher data rates and traffic densities

• ML for network optimization for verticals’ needs (also input from verticals would be needed) • Enable Time Sensitive Communications (TSC) for private wide area networks. Practical use cases need more versatile synchronization/timing delivery solutions to enable

for wider market adoption• More efficient support of URLLC/TSC and eMBB traffic mix

• Enhanced Positioning• Emerging applications like autonomous applications (e,g. automotive applications) need high-precision positioning technology with high integrity and reliability in

addition to high accuracy. • Asset tracking, NR-U, V2X, IAB, location awareness

• XR (eXtended Reality) • XR applications with multi-Gbps and low latency requirements: telepresence, video streaming, online gaming etc. Investigating novel radio link concepts for future XR

applications and new devices types. • Support of XR and Cloud Gaming applications on the move (i.e. allow mobility) while minimizing user experience degradation to better enabling mass adoption of such

services and applications• XR and Cloud Gaming applications may require high-throughput and low-latency also on the uplink and thus, enhancements to the 5G uplink performance including UL

coverage performance are needed.5G CORE:• XR (eXtended Reality) and cloud gaming, 5G System needs to be enhanced to support interactive services with different KPIs requirements in uplink and downlink.• Multi-access evolution and their traffic steering mechanisms: MP-QUIC and MP-TCP.

Further development of the 5G test network, to incorporate larger outdoor coverage areas on campus in terms of cell sites

E.g. Positioning capabilities with network based approaches utilizes more than one cell

E.g. Remote control performance studies over 5G connection in terms of cell handovers & macro mobility (specifically the URLLC functionality in these cases)

Further development of the 5G test network, to incorporate indoor coverage (indoor small-power base-stations) in different buildings of the campus

Indoor environment studies differ greatly from those of the outdoor ones

Indoor positioning with several cells

Outdoor-to-indoor mobility studiesUpgrading the 5G test network to millimeter-wave frequencies, particularly the 26-28 GHz band that is currently being processed in terms of frequency licensing by TraficommmWave cells both for indoor and outdoor locations

Combining e.g. indoor-to-outdoor, cell handover, remote control operations with heterogeneous deployment of 3.5 GHz cells (outdoor/indoor) and 26-28 GHz mmWave cells

28.8.2020

Implementing F-Secure SENSE security functions in 5G network elements instead of the home CPE network element.

How to obtain traffic metadata from 5G networks cost efficiently?

• There’re costly ways to do it, but that’s unacceptable for consumers

• Cost level target for traffic metadata acquisition for traffic analysis-based protection is < 0.2 € per device per month

• Relevant network metadata to be used in ML and other algorithms:

• Traffic flows created and closed (Source & destination addresses and ports, IP protocol)

• Sliding window average bandwidth used per flow (uplink and downlink)

• Median of packet sizes in flows

• Inter-packet delay in flows

• In-flow packet median TTL

How to map 5G network traffic flows to user or device identities?

• Identity is needed in order to offer user-specific protection

• Identity should be pseudonymized for privacy and legal reasons

• Mapping needs to be real-time or near-real-time in order to provide near-real-time protection

How to block individual flows in 5G networks based on verdicts of detection algorithms?

• Blocking actions taken as response measures
