Week of 2/16/15
Sunday, February 22, 2015
The Main Events •Morning Work: We continued to work on Star words this
week and wrote a few more journal entries. This week we
wrote about a time that we went to the dentist. If someone
had not been to the dentist, they told me about different
ways to keep their teeth healthy. I have decided that March
we need to go back to handwriting practice though—our
kiddos need some help!
•Readers’ Workshop: This week was all about beginning,
middle, and end. We had fun this week with books. We read
three different stories and each time a read a new story, I
would leave out an important part of the story—maybe I
would read just the beginning, the ending, or just the action
in the middle. It helped the kids realize how important each

Superhero Shout Outs • Way to go Vanessa for writing
a great How To story: How to Make a Rainbow.
• Great idea Elyse! Elyse noticed there were three unstacked chairs at her table and asked her two table mates to help her stack them without the teacher suggestion!
• Nice job to the whole class for earning their 10th BUG!
Important Reminders • There is no library this week
because we have a short week—however, if you did not send your books back in last week, I will allow you to go down this week and get some books.
• Please remember to send in snacks that are peanut and tree nut safe. It is important that we do what we can to keep all of our friends safe in our classroom.

part of the story is! We read the stories: Nighttime Ninja, The
Best Story Ever, and Perfectly Percy. We also then watched a
book movie by Mo Willems called, Edwina, The Dinosaur Who
Didn’t Know She Was Extinct. We practiced retelling the story
to work on our comprehension.
•Writers’ Workshop: This whole week we worked on adding
the final details to our How To stories. We used a checklist to
help us remember all the important elements to a How To
stories: numbered steps, illustrations that fit each step,
transition words, a title, tips/warnings, an intro, a conclusion, a
dedication, and labels. We are excited to have our Author’s
Share on Monday.
•Math: This week we got back to the math mountains and
tiny tumblers. The math mountains seem to be already
helping us understand the the partners of a number. It is a
great visual tool and allows us to understand the relationship
in the number partnership. We also worked together to cheer
on our friends who were brave enough to teach our class how
to do problems in front of the class. We had some fun with
3D shapes this week as well. We were introduced to do the
differences and similarities between “flat” 2D shapes and the
“fat” 3D shapes through different forms of exploration.
•In Other News
•Eva F. will be the star student next week.
•We were lucky to have a real dentist come visit our
kindergarteners. She taught us the effects of sneaky sugar on
our teeth, how to properly brush our teeth, and how to keep
our teeth healthy and strong.
•We were inspired by our dentist to make our own tooth
fairies :).
