5N NEWS & NOTES what we learned You can calculate the volume of a rectangular prism by multiplying the length x width x height. The term "militia" refers to an army made up of civilians. Our solar system is made up of 9 planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto This week we had both our ELA MCAS sessions. We took our time, did our best, and rocked the test! Later on in the week we learned more about the Battles of Lexington and Concord. We learned that British soldiers were sent to Lexington to arrest Samuel Adams and John Hancock and then sent to Concord to seize any military weapons being held there. While the British were victorious in the Battle of Lexington, the colonist came out as the victors in the Battle of Concord and forced the British to retreat all the way back to Boston. This was significant because it showed the British that the Patriots were willing to fight for their freedom. Like all the other events we learn about in social studies, there is an emphasis on the significance of each event and the cause/effect relationships of the events in history. We also were assigned our roles for the upcoming Concord Museum field trip on April 9! In science we continued to observe the moon and discovered that it will now be visible in the evenings again. In math we learned how to calculate the volume of a rectangular prism and in writing we continued to work on our fantasy stories. In the week leading up to vacation we will have a field trip and continue the important work we have been doing in each subject!

REFLECTING ON OUR WEEK

B Y M S . N I X O N

what we learned

You can calculate the volume of a rectangular prism by multiplying the length x width x height.

The term "militia" refers to an army made up of

civilians.

Our solar system is made up of 9 planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and

Pluto

This week we had both our ELA MCAS sessions. This was significant because it showed the British that the Patriots were willing to fight for their

freedom.
