In The Spotlight: Barb and Michael Rechcygiel

As the only two single people at a New Year’s Eve party, it may seem like they

were destined to be together. Barb was out with friends. Mike, never before married, single for 57 years, was playing guitar in the band. Barb says he chased her until she caught him. Mike and Barb rechcygiel have now been married for 4 years.

Mike and Barb recently moved here per-manently from Boulder, Colorado after Mike retired from ADT Security last month. They have a son, Mike, a daughter, Heather and a little granddaughter, Cate, who is 6 and adores her Poppy Mike because he gives

great “horsey rides.” Mike loves music and has played guitar and sung with various bands since he was 16, and has

played for Happy Hour at Sun City (shown below right.) He enjoys ATV rides in the desert with anyone who will go with him, and is looking forward to taking golf lessons. Those of you who have already golfed with Mike know that he needs them. Barb enjoys all types of dancing and would like to become a “Mesquite-Toe”. She likes to bowl though she admits she’s pretty bad. Volunteer work within the community is also on her agenda.

Mike and Barb love Sun City. Every time they drive under the arch past the waterfalls, it gives them a peaceful feeling of truly being home. From their first visit in May 2010, they fell in love with the area.

The rechcygiels appreciate the friendships they have formed here, and the fun they have with neighbors and friends. “When all is said and done,” said Barb, “A house is just a house. But the people that surround us are so thoughtful and so much fun. We enjoy hearing about their var-ied backgrounds, talents, and experiences. Ev-eryone we have met in Sun City has been very welcoming and helpful; from the staff to all the residents we have come to know.”

SCM at the Mesquite Community Theater’s Love Letters

SCM Members enjoyed a special Valentine’s Day treat when they attended Love Letters at the Mesquite Community Theater. Deborah and Craig Demos hosted a champange and choc-olate covered strawberry reception before the play and during intermission. recipe Corner Out and About: Death Valley, CA

Easy Corned Beef and Cabbage

This spectacular wonder of nature is only about a three hour drive from

Sun City, via US 95. Death Valley is located in eastern California situated within the Mojave Desert. It is the lowest and driest area in North America sitting at an eleva-tion of 282 feet below sea level. It is com-prised of approximately 3,000 square miles. Death Valley offers many and varied geological and topographical features including basin and range configura-tions, salt pans, Furnace Creek and the Amargosa river for sightseeing. Both

the Furnace Creek and the Amargosa river eventually disappear into the sands of Death Valley. As the desert developed over time the water evaporated. This evapo-ration left behind an abundance of borax which was mined between 1883 and 1907. Anybody who grew up in the 1960s probably remembers the western Death Val-ley Days. Its sponsor was the Pacific Coast Borax Company. One of the lon-gest-running television series, the show was filmed in and around Death Val-ley. Some of the borax wagons pulled by the mules in the ads are on display. As a national park, Death Valley offers many attractions including wildflowers in March and April (shown above left), hiking, biking, horseback riding, golfing, camping, rV hookups, sight-seeing and a variety of activities for all ages. There are several lodges / inns in the park as well as in nearby towns such as Beatty, Amargosa, Tonopah, Goldfield and Indian Springs. Pahrump, Nevada, halfway between Death Valley and Las Vegas, also has full accommodations available as well as other activities. Contact the national park service at www.nps.gov/deva/ for all the information you need to arrange an unforgettable trip to Death Valley.

If you have a “Pest” problem we can take care of it, whether it is Spiders, Roaches, Ants, Rodents, Scorpions, or even Killer Bees (note: we do not take care of pesky neighbors).

If you are new to the area you can probably imagine and if you have been here for a while you already know that this wonderful climate that brings us all here is also very appealing to those creatures we call “Pests.” And many of those “Pests' are not just annoying but down right dangerous, like: Black Widow Spiders, Brown Recluse Spiders and of course the ever famous Bark Scorpion. To avoid problems with these “Pests” it is critical to establish a well designed and customized treatment program. We use the most effective and safe chemicals and can design a treatment plan that will meet your needs.

Our business was founded in 2001 and we were rated the “Best in Mesquite” the last two years in the Mesquite Local News reader's poll (the pest control category was added two years ago). Our business has grown with the community and as a result, most of our clients are located in the more established parts of town, although we do have a
