Axon Upgrade OverviewThis chapter includes the following topics:

• Introduction to Axon, 8

• Axon Upgrade Paths, 8

• Axon Agent Upgrade Path, 9

Introduction to AxonAxon Data Governance is a knowledge repository tool that you can use to document the data items that require governance. Data owners, data stewards, subject matter experts, and other responsible stakeholders collaborate across the organization to progressively chart the business reality of data, its lineage, and usage across processes, policies, projects, and regulation.

Axon Upgrade PathsWhen you upgrade Axon, you install a new version of Axon on a machine that contains an older version. After you upgrade, the new Axon version replaces the old version on the same machine. This section describes the versions and components of Axon that you can upgrade from a previous version, and the Linux distributions that support Axon upgrade.

Supported Axon Versions for Upgrade

You can upgrade to Axon version 6.0 if you have one of the following Axon versions installed on your system:

• Axon 5.1

• Axon 5.2

• Axon 5.3

• Axon 5.4

If you have Axon version 5.0, you must first upgrade to Axon 5.3 before upgrading to Axon 6.0.

Axon Components

To upgrade Axon, you need to upgrade only the core Axon component. You do not have to upgrade related Axon components. You can retain the existing versions of the following components:

• Axon Agent

• Informatica Domain

• Enterprise Data Catalog

• Model Repository Service

• Data Integration Service

• Secure@Source

Supported Linux Distributions for Upgrade

You can install Axon on one of the following Linux distributions:

• Amazon Linux 2

• CentOS Linux version 7.5

• Oracle Enterprise Linux 7.4

• Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x

• SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP2 or SP3

When you upgrade Axon, make sure that you use the same Linux distribution that your current installation is on. You cannot upgrade from one Linux distribution to another. For example, you can upgrade from a lower Axon version on Red Hat Enterprise Linux to a higher Axon version on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. You cannot upgrade from a lower Axon version on Red Hat Enterprise Linux to a higher Axon version on CentOS Linux. To upgrade Axon from one Linux distribution to another, consider the following workaround:

1. Back up the Axon database for the older Axon version.

2. Install the new Axon version on a new machine.

3. Restore the backed up Axon database to the new machine.

For instructions on how to back up and restore the database, see the Back Up and Restore Database topic in the Axon Data Governance 6.0 Administrator Guide. For instructions on how to install Axon, see the Axon Data Governance 6.0 Installation Guide.

Axon Agent Upgrade PathYou cannot upgrade to Axon Agent 6.0 from an earlier version of the Axon Agent. To upgrade the Axon Agent, uninstall your existing version of the Axon Agent and perform a fresh installation of Axon Agent 6.0.

For more information on uninstalling and installing the Axon Agent, see the Axon Data Governance 6.0 Installation Guide.

Axon UpgradeThis chapter includes the following topics:

• Before You Upgrade, 10

• Upgrade Axon, 14

• After You Upgrade, 17

Before You UpgradeBefore you upgrade your Axon installation to version 6.0, you must prepare your system for the upgrade. You must back up your customizations and upgrade some RPM components that are necessary for Axon 6.0.

Verify System RequirementsVerify that the system where you plan to upgrade Axon meets the minimum requirements for the installation process. If you want Axon to use the default ports for the services, make sure that the ports are available before you start the upgrade process.

For more information, see the System Requirements topic in the Axon Data Governance 6.0 Installation Guide in the Informatica Knowledge Base.

Create an Axon Administrator UserEffective in Axon version 5.3, a non-root user in Linux installs and manages Axon. If you are upgrading Axon from version 5.2 or an earlier version, the root user in Linux must create a non-root user and provide the user with the necessary permissions. The non-root user is called the Axon Administrator in this guide. Perform the following steps to create the Axon Administrator user.

1. Create a non-root user in the Linux environment.

Note: This user is a non-root user that must have read and write permissions for the directory where the upgraded Axon files are located. Do not enter the following names for the non-root user: axon, axon_bulkupload, axon_changerequest, axon_data, axon_docupload, axon_notification, camunda, postgres, unison.

2. Create a home directory to upgrade Axon. Provide the non-root user with read and write permission on the home directory.

If you upgrade Axon from version 5.2 or an earlier version, the root user or sudo user must initiate the Axon upgrade, and specify the non-root user during the upgrade process. The Axon installer places the Axon upgrade files in the home directory of the non-root user.

10

Page 11: 6 . 0 I n f o r m a t i c a A x o n D a t a G o v e r n a n c e Documentation...6 . 0 I n f o r m a t i c a A x o n D a t a G o v e r n a n c e ... 6

If you upgrade from Axon version 5.3, the Axon Administrator must initiate the upgrade process.

After upgrade, all subsequent tasks in Linux must be done by the Axon Administrator inside the home directory.

Back Up DatabaseBefore you upgrade Axon, back up the PostgreSQL database.

If You Upgrade From Axon 5.2 or an Earlier Version

You must be a root user or sudo user to back up the PostgreSQL database. To back up the database, perform the following steps:

1. Create a script file with the name backup.sh.

2. Add the following content to the file:

#!/bin/sh/bin/su -postgres -c "<INSTALLATION_DIR>/scripts/axon_db_backup.sh <BACKUP_DIR>/`date+%Y_%m_%d_%H%M`"

where <INSTALLATION_DIR> is the Axon installation directory, and <BACKUP_DIR> is the directory where you choose to store the backup.

3. Go to the location where you created the backup.sh file, and run the following command to back up the PostgreSQL database:

sh backup.sh4. Go to the <BACKUP_DIR> directory to verify that the database backup file has been created. The database

backup is an SQL file with the timestamp: <BACKUP_DIR>/<backup_sql_file>For example, your backup file name might look like this: <BACKUP_DIR>/postgres_2018_06_24_025744.sql

If You Upgrade From Axon 5.3

You must back up the database as the Axon Administrator. The Axon Administrator is a non-root user in Linux that manages Axon. To back up the PostgreSQL database, perform the following steps:

1. Go to the <INSTALLATION_DIR>/scripts directory and run the following command to back up the database:

sh axon_db_backup.sh <BACKUP_DESTINATION_DIR>2. Go to the backup destination directory to verify that the database backup file is created. The database

backup is an SQL file with the timestamp: <BACKUP_DESTINATION_DIR>/<backup_sql_file>For example, your backup file name might look like this: <BACKUP_DESTINATION_DIR>/postgres_2018_06_24_025744.sql

Validate YML FilesIf you upgrade Axon from a version earlier than 5.2, make sure that the parameters.yml file is valid. You can use any online YML validator to validate this file. If this file is not valid, the Axon upgrade might fail.

The parameters.yml file is available in the following location: <INSTALLATION_DIRECTORY>/axonhome/axon/app/config

Before You Upgrade 11

Page 12: 6 . 0 I n f o r m a t i c a A x o n D a t a G o v e r n a n c e Documentation...6 . 0 I n f o r m a t i c a A x o n D a t a G o v e r n a n c e ... 6

Upgrade ComponentsYou might have to upgrade some Linux RPM files before you begin the Axon upgrade process.

Ensure that the following RPMs or higher versions are available in your Linux system before you upgrade Axon:

• apr-1.4.8

• apr-util-1.5.2

• glibc-2.17

• libevent-2.0.21

• libselinux-2.5

• mailcap-2.1.41

• openssl-libs-1.0.2k

• systemd-219

• yajl-2.0.4

Configure Port AccessConfigure your firewall to allow the Axon installer and the application that it installs to access the external ports. Optionally, disable the firewall.

Obtain the License KeyBefore you upgrade Axon, verify that you have a valid license key. Contact Informatica Global Customer Support to obtain a license key. You must provide the location of the license key file during the upgrade process.

Disable Database Backup Cron JobAxon 5.0 makes use of cron jobs for regular backups. By default, the cron job is enabled. If you want to upgrade from Axon 5.0, you can prevent automatic database backup using a flag that disables cron jobs. Make sure that you configure this flag before you start the upgrade.

To disable the cron job that backs up your database periodically, set the following environment variable to false:

AXON_ENABLE_CRON_JOB=false

If you need to take a backup of the databases at any point in time, you can perform the following tasks:

1. Go to the <INSTALLATION_DIR>/scripts directory and run the following command to back up the database:

sh axon_db_backup.sh <BACKUP_DESTINATION_DIR>2. Go to the backup destination directory to verify that the database backup file has been created. The

database backup is an SQL file with the timestamp: <BACKUP_DESTINATION_DIR>/<backup_sql_file>For example, your backup file might look like this: <BACKUP_DESTINATION_DIR>/postgres_2018_06_24_025744.sql

Create DirectoriesBefore you run the installer file, create the following directories within the home directory of the Axon Administrator. Make sure that the Axon Administrator has read and write permissions on the home directory.

1. Create an upgrade directory. When you run the Axon installer file, the installer creates a home directory inside this upgrade directory. The installer file then upgrades Axon in the home directory.

The upgrade directory is referred to as <UPGRADE_DIRECTORY> in this document.

2. Create a temporary directory for the installer binaries and extract the installer files to this directory. Make sure that you download the installer zip file to a local directory or a shared network drive that is mapped on your machine. You can then securely copy the installer file to this temporary directory and extract the installer files. The installer binaries contain the core Axon components and services that are installed by the installer file.

This temporary directory is referred to as <SOURCE_BINARIES_DIRECTORY> in this document

3. If you plan to integrate Axon with Informatica Data Quality, create a directory for the Axon installer file to install the Axon Agent.

Extract the Installer FilesBefore you upgrade Axon, you must first extract the contents of the installer file to the <SOURCE_BINARIES_DIRECTORY> directory. This is a temporary location that holds the files that are used to upgrade Axon.

The installer files are compressed and distributed as a .tar file. Use an extraction utility to extract the installer files to the <SOURCE_BINARIES_DIRECTORY> directory on your machine. When you extract the file, verify that the extraction utility also extracts empty folders.

Run the Validation UtilityInformatica provides a validation utility that you can run to verify if your system meets the requirements to run the Axon upgrade installer file.

Perform the following steps to run the validation utility:

1. Download the validation utility from the following URL: https://download.informatica.com/infa/downloads/Axon/installer-prerequisite-tester_6.0.zip

2. Copy the installer-prerequisite-tester_6.0.zip file to your Linux machine.

3. Provide the Linux user with execute permission on the installer-prerequisite-tester_6.0.zip file.

4. Run the following command to extract the contents of the installer-prerequisite-tester_6.0.zip file:

unzip installer-prerequisite-tester_6.0.zip5. Run the following command to execute the validation script file:

sh validate.shThe validation utility checks if your system meets the following requirements:

• System RPM requirements

• Operating System requirements

• Internal RPM requirements

The validation utility displays status messages when it runs. Follow the instructions given in the messages before you proceed with running the Axon upgrade installer file. After you run the validation utility, you can

Migrate Scheduled JobsAxon uses the Jobber utility to schedule and run jobs. All Jobber files are located within the Axon home directory. If you upgrade from Axon version 5.3 or an earlier version, you must migrate the Jobber files from the directory of the previous version to the Axon 6.0 home directory.

Migrate Job File

When you upgrade Axon, the installer creates the axon.jobs file in the <UPGRADE_DIR>/axonhome/axon_scheduler directory. Axon uses the axon.jobs file to run scheduled jobs.

If you upgrade from Axon version 5.2 or an earlier version, you must copy the scheduled jobs from the <user_home_directory>/.jobber file to the <UPGRADE_DIR>/axonhome/axon_scheduler/axon.jobs file.

Note: To access the <user_home_directory>/.jobber file, you must be a root user or sudo user.

Migrate Job Scripts

When you upgrade Axon, the installer creates the daily, weekly, and monthly sub-directories in the <INSTALLATION_DIR>/axonhome/axon_scheduler directory. If you upgrade from Axon version 5.2 or an earlier version, you must move the Jobber script files from the directory of the previous version to the daily, weekly, and monthly sub-directories.

Configure Email NotificationsStarting from version 5.0 HotFix 1, Axon uses the Jobber utility instead of the cron utility to configure jobs. If you have configured email notifications using the cron utility, you must reconfigure the notifications using the Jobber utility.

The Jobber utility creates a axon.jobs file in the <INSTALLATION_DIR>/axonhome/axon_scheduler location. You must configure the properties in this file to create email notifications.

You can schedule email notifications in the following time intervals:

• Daily

• Weekly

• Monthly

Create a Daily Email Notification SchedulePerform the following steps to create a daily email notification schedule:

1. Go to the <UPGRADE_DIR>/axonhome/axon_scheduler/daily directory, and open the dailyscript.sh file.

2. Add the following code to the file:

#!/bin/sh. <INSTALLATION_DIR>/scripts/exportEnv.sh<UPGRADE_DIR>/axonhome/third-party-app/php/bin/php <UPGRADE_DIR>/axonhome/axon/bin/console diaku:process-notifications --timeframe=daily --env=prod

3. Open the axon.jobs file available in the <UPGRADE_DIR>/axonhome/axon_scheduler location.

If you have logged in as a sudo user, you must first copy the axon.jobs file from the /root location to the <UPGRADE_DIR>/axonhome/axon_scheduler location.

Logging In To AxonIf you have not configured Single Sign-on, use the URL displayed by the Axon installer after the upgrade completes to log in to Axon from a browser. To configure Single Sign-on for authentication, see the Enabling Single Sign-on in Axon How-to Article.

Effective in version 5.3, the Axon installer assigns the following port numbers as the default value for the Apache server:

• If you use HTTP authentication, the installer assigns 9999 as the default port number for the Apache server.

• If you use HTTPS authentication, the installer assigns 9443 as the default port number for the Apache server.

Depending on whether your Axon instance runs on the default port number or a custom port number, you must enter the correct port number in the browser address field after upgrade.

1. Clear your Internet browser cache and cookies.

2. In the address field, type the fully qualified host name for the Axon login page in the following format: http(s)://<host_name>:<9999_or_9443_or_custom_port_number>/

3. From the Axon home page, on the top right corner of the toolbar, click Login.

4. Enter your login credentials and click Login. Use the same login credentials that you used for your previous version of Axon.

5. Axon refreshes the page and displays your username in the toolbar. This indicates that you have successfully logged in.

When you log in to Axon for the first time, Informatica recommends that you modify your login password for security purposes. The password must be at least eight characters long and contain at least one lowercase character, one uppercase character, one numeric digit, and one special character.

Manage Saved SearchesEffective in Axon version 5.2 and subsequent versions, Unison search is enhanced with new features and search operators. If you upgrade Axon from a version earlier than 5.2, the upgrade process migrates the previously saved searches of Axon users. In Axon version 5.2 and subsequent versions, the search results of saved searches might not display the expected results for some users. Informatica recommends that those Axon users verify their search results, and create new searches if required.
