Communication and Networking mechanisms for improving services to

small farmers (Aceh Model)

BackgroundETESP-Fisheries is a component of ETESP, the Earthquake and Tsunami Emergency Support Project approved byEmergency Support Project approved by ADB to rehabilitate the fisheries sector after 2004 December Tsunami.

During 2006-2008, ETESP-Fisheries supported reconstruction of brackish water along the north-east coast of Aceh, approximately 3000 ha of ponds associated water supply and drainage canal

Background cont.Aceh's farmers face number of constraints towards re-establishing and sustaining aquaculture business : l l l f d ti itlow level of productivity, poor management practices and poor quality input, lack of awareness of BMPs, and limited access to and capacity of technical, market and financial services

Responding to the above issues, ETESP initiated and implemented Acehinitiated and implemented Aceh Livelihood Service Centre (ALSCs) and Aceh Aquaculture Communication Centre (AACC)

Challenges

Three ALSC in Bireuen District, one in Aceh Utara districtestablished in Aceh
