The c ente r for rec yc la b le ma te rials, Lak Si Netw ork, Don Mua ng , projec tstarted in 2001 with support from the Chumchonthai Foundation in the formof sc holarships, stud y trips, and know -how on how to set up the p rojec t. Thec om mittee of this c om munity set up this p rojec t with the purpo se o f pg ra d ingthe community’s environment but then it realized that this project couldgenerate great profits and hence it executed this project on a commercial

basis and thereby created jobs for its members. Other kinds of jobs followed,as we ll a s c o-ordination with the ne two rks of a d ja c ent c om munities in themaintenance of cleanliness in the canal that runs through the communities.Plans are afoot to set up eight more centers for recyclable materials so thatthe total volume of collected materials would be large enough for directtra nsport to the p roc essing p la nt

On the ec onomic side:Promotes and supports vocational training to community members, that is,for operating the center for recyclable materials commercially and theproceeds from this project are used to develop the center into acomprehensive undertaking which generates income to communitymembers.

This is c onsid ered to b e a goo d wa y to m anage rubb ish and this helpsto red uce p ollution in ma ny wa ys.

Important tools which help bring success to the company in carrying out itsactivities in the economic, social and environmental areas are partnerships,and de sign, planning a nd m ana gem ent.
