Configuring the Master PC
• Set it up the way you want it to look• Stop those Desktop icons• Configure Power Management• Set Login wallpaper• Set Login screen saver• Other customisations?
Create a Standard Account
• Standard account is a template for account and profile
• Make all the changes to this account• Copy the account to Default• Change .Default in the Registry
• Knowledge Base is your Friend!!
Desktop Icons
• New in SP1 after SysPrep– Internet Explorer– MSN Explorer– Microsoft Media Player
• Disable by:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OemStartMenuData]
“DoDesktopCleanup”=DWord 1
Power Management
• Give Standard Admin Privs
Or
• Edit the Profile in the Registry
Using Regedit.exe
• Log on as Administrator• Select HKEY_USERS and Load Hive
Load the Standard NTUSER• Edit .Default
This is the “before a user logs in” config
Cool (aka unsupported)Settings
• Power Management:.DEFAULT\Control Panel\PowerCfg

• Screen Saver and Wallpaper:.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
• For Wallpaper, only use .BMP in \Windows
Copy Standard to Default User
• Log on as Administrator• Set View Files to show all hidden and
system files• Use My Computer, Properties,
Profiles
• DON’T RUN OFFICE!
Tidy up before Imaging
• Run Disk Cleanup• Run Defrag a number of times
– Run till no fragmentation
• Clear the MRUs (Task Bar Properties)• Clear Cookies, etc• Delete the Page File after SysPrep
– Boot from WinPE
Sysprep
• Create SysPrep folder and files from Deploy.cab
• Use Setup Manager• Don’t forget to change Product ID
to Product Key• Blank out things you want to be
prompted for
Create the Image
• Image (using PQIDEPLOY) before you run SysPrep
• Run SysPrep• Image again
