6) DIGIPAK ANALYSIS

Page 2: 6 digipak analysis

TASK

For this analysis you can just analyse the front and back covers. Use google to find one to analyse.

In your analysis you should discuss:

• genre

• target audience

• composition

• colours

• conventions

• denotation

• connotation

• representation

FRONT COVER

The front cover is plain and the text which is

written in a easy to read font separated by

white underlines. The effect that this is trying

to portray is that it has been spray painted

onto the wall. I think this because the man

that is sitting on the curb has his head

blocking the letter s. The man is shown to be

waiting for something as he is looking for the

oncoming which connotes it may be a bus,

this is also suggested by the title ‘18 months’.

This maybe a time span that he has been

waiting. The wall in the background is half

build and this shows his journey and how he's

half way through his journey. I believe The

target audience that I can see from the front

cover is late teens to early 30s. I can tell this

from then neutral colour scheme that has

been used.

BACK COVER

Compared to the front cover the

back cover has lot more detail. The

back cover is similar to the front

cover but has the background

image larger to show a long shot of

the same location. The target

audience would be the same as the

front cover being late teens to early

30’s. All the text is in white as this is a

main theme that runs through out

the cover. The colour white

connotes that its a postive situation

or It Will lead to something positive

which suggests that by buying and

listening this will put the listener in a

positive mood.

CD

The CD has the same features as the

front cover as as it is plain and has 2

main contrasting colours. The colour

black being used in this genre is

unusual as it is usually seen in the

rock genre and not the house genre.

The colours that are used are to

show the contrast between the the

colours and the music on the cd.

You cant tell from any of the three

items that it is from the house genre.

FINAL ANALYSIS

The CD cover is very plain and doesn’t include much detail. Especially the front cover and the CD both of these are plain the effect this has is that it attracts more attention to the the back cover, also the CD is the plainest of the 3 items this is to contrast the music that will be on the CD. The colours used are not colours that you would expect to see in the house genre and you would expect to see them in the rock genre. The overall genre I believe is late teens to early 30’s as it doesn’t use many bright colours that would attract the younger generation most colours used are neutral colours which suggests that there isn't really a target audience but the older generation would really listen to this music.
