Today’s gospel reminds us that we have been given authority over the unclean spirits that constantly invade our homes and families. The list of unclean spirits includes contempt, envy, deceit, violence, substance abuse, hatred, pornography, and disrespect. The gospel makes it clear that we don’t need a lot of equipment to speak out against these evils….we already have the Holy Spirit as our advocate and guide.

Chris Pratt accepted the Generation Award at the MTV Movie & TV Awards, but took the opportunity to share a few of the things closest to his heart.

Now, I lost all respect for MTV when they stopped playing music videos, and the junk they show now I find even more disturbing. But, the advice he gave is exactly what I think the younger generation needs to hear:

"This being the Generation Award, I’m going to cut to the chase and I am going to speak to you, the next generation. I accept the responsibility as your elder. So, listen up." The Avengers: Infinity War star then introduced his "Nine Rules from Chris Pratt, Generation Award Winner", which went as follows:

(1) "Breathe. If you don’t, you will suffocate."

(2) "You have a soul. Be careful with it."

(3) "Don’t be a turd. If you are strong, be a protector. If you are smart, be a humble influencer. Strength and intelligence can be weapons, so do not wield them against the weak. That makes you a bully. Be bigger than that."

(4) "When giving a dog medicine, put the medicine in a little piece of hamburger and they won't even know they're eating medicine."

(5) "It doesn't matter what it is. Earn it. A good deed. Reach out to someone in pain. Be of service. It feels good and it's good for your soul."

(6) "God is real. God loves you, God wants the best for you. Believe that, I do."

(7) (is advice on pooping and we don’t need to hear that one)

(8) "Learn to pray. It's easy, and so good for your soul."

Continued . . .

(9) "Nobody is perfect. People will tell you that you are perfect just the way that you are, you are not! You are imperfect. You always will be, but there is a powerful force that designed you that way, and if you are willing to accept that, you will have grace." "And grace is a gift. Like the freedom that we enjoy in this country, that grace was paid for with somebody else's blood. Do not forget that. Don't take that for granted."

ASSISTANCE NEEDED

If anyone is interested in helping with maintaining the grounds at Church, the School, and at the Blessed Virgin Mary Garden on Broad & 2nd, please let me know!! I could use a person or 2, 3, or 4 to help with watering, weeding, spraying Round-Up on the parking lot perimeter at church, and a person good at edging beds. If you could spare even an hour a month there would be no heavy burden to undertake!

If you are interested in helping with grounds keeping, please contact

Diane Hovatter. Home: 330-929-5541 Cell: 330-352-6437

Thank you so much!

Prayer Shawl Ministry

The St. Joseph Prayer Shawl Ministry’s next meeting will be Tuesday, July 17 from 7pm to 9pm in Nolan Hall, the basement of the church.

Please join us as we knit, crochet, and tie fleece shawls and blankets, then send them on with our prayers and love to those in need of comfort and warmth. We can supply the materials.

Parishioners and friends, ages 9-90 are welcome. Needlework experience is welcome but not necessary ~ come learn how to do these relaxing crafts. The gratitude of those who receive our prayer-filled work is beyond measure and deeply satisfying.

Any questions, call Joanne at 330-920-1389. Sponsored by Altar & Rosary Society

Altar & Rosary News for JULY

Our trip to visit the Cleveland Churches was a delightful experience. Living my entire life

here in Cuyahoga Falls, I had no idea that such beautiful and awesome Churches, with such

breathtaking architecture, was within such a short drive. Everyone that went that had not seen

them were as impressed as I was. On the drive home there was much discussion to plan “like

excursions” to visit some of the other Churches in the surrounding areas in the future. The

committee from Altar & Rosary, along with Fr. Jared’s help, will certainly plan another trip

(perhaps) in the Spring.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is off to a good start. The first meeting was well attended.

Joanne and her helpers were great in providing instructions and supplies for this project. Watch

the bulletin for the dates, times, and places of the next meeting.

Although our ladies of the Altar & Rosary will not be meeting during the summer, it does

not mean we aren’t busy planning our Fall activities. Plans are well underway for our Annual Card

Party that will be held on Thursday, October 25th in our school Gym. Tickets are already

available by contacting Bernice @330-923-8150, Toni @ 330-928-5172, Nancy @330-923-8348,

or Rose @234-571-4478. We are also accepting donations for our Silent Raffle.

Please remember the Parish Picnic that will be held on August 19th at Water Works Park at

the Big Cuyahoga Shelter. The men of our parish will supply the drinks, hot dogs, hamburgers and

buns for everyone. Altar & Rosary will provide all the “toppings”. Please bring your own table

service and a DISH TO SHARE. Plan to join us for a day of good food, fun and fellowship and join

in the various activities.

Watch this column for activities and up-coming events. Have a pleasant and safe Summer

and see you at the picnic in August!!! If you have any questions, please call me at 330-730-8533.

St. Joseph CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Help support the parish certificate program. Approximately 150 parishioners purchase certificates annually in this program that benefits the parish and provides a rebate check at the end of the school year to participants who have accrued more than $10 in cash back from their purchase of certificates. The certificate program provides money to support our parish while you purchase items that you use regularly (gas, groceries, household items….). Currently, only 2 local families are staffing the majority of the certificate sales table activities at weekend Masses. As school year activities ramp up in September, we may not be able to offer certificate sales for all weekends without additional help. Please consider helping out at least one weekend a month with the sales as a donation of your time to the parish community. Thank You!
