FROM THE PRINCIPAL Prayer for Mothers

God our Creator, we pray: for new mothers, coming to terms

with new responsibility; for expectant mothers, wondering and

waiting; for those who are tired, stressed or

depressed; for those who struggle to balance the

tasks of work and family; for those who are unable to feed their

children due to poverty; for those whose children have physical, mental or emotional

disabilities; for those who raise children on their

own; for those who have lost a child;

for those who care for the children of others;

for those whose children have left home; and for those whose desire to

be a mother has not been fulfilled.

Bless all mothers, that their love may be deep and tender,

and that they may lead their children to know and do what is good, living

not for themselves alone, But for God and for others.

Amen.

May the Month of Mary

By tradition, the Catholic Church dedicates the month of May to the Blessed Virgin Mary. This devotion arose among Jesuits in Rome in the 18th century and quickly spread throughout the Western Church. It is therefore especially fitting for us to

celebrate mothers, grandmothers and important women in our lives this month.

Mother’s Day

I take this opportunity to wish all our mothers, grandmothers and all those special women in the lives of the Aquinas College community a very happy Mother’s Day on Sunday, 12 May. Let us pray gratefully for the gift of mothers, for the gift of all those special women in our lives, asking our Lord to bless them for their committed love. Athletics Carnival Our annual College Athletics Carnival took place last Friday at The Ridge Athletics Field. Unfortunately wet weather brought an early finish to an enjoyable carnival. I congratulate our students on their enthusiasm and participation in the morning, and their cooperation and understanding in having to return to school earlier than expected. Thank you to Mr McGee (Sports Coordinator) and Mrs Kizi (Assistant Sports Coordinator) for the organisation of the day. Fortunately the majority of events were completed prior to the rain, a small number of events will be completed at school over the coming weeks. It was also pleasing to see a number of parents in attendance.

Sports News│ Mr Charles McGee

At the beginning of the year, a call went out to all footballers to trial for positions in the NSWCCC Representative Football/Soccer squads. From a pool of over 200 footballers who trialed, four teams of fifteen were chosen - senior boys and senior girls, junior boys and junior girls. These four squads trained the house down during Term 1, to compete in the prestigious NSWCCC Championships. At the Gala Days, Round 1 knocked out both our senior boys and junior boys teams. The senior girls and junior girls both won their first round games against DLS. Round 2 knocked out the senior girls whereas, the junior girls won through to the SSCCC Champions Round 3. The Champions of the East - Aquinas junior girls were drawn to play the Champions of the West - Freeman Catholic College Bonnyrigg. Our junior girls won the final 3 - 0, to next go through to Round 4, to play the winner of the CGSCCC during July. Congratulations to all those who trialed, were chosen and represented our College. From the knockout rounds, five players from all teams were invited to trial for the SSCCC Representative senior boys and senior girls teams. All five who trialed, represented Aquinas in the right spirit and were all great ambassadors of our College. The following Aquinas students were chosen in SSCCC teams which will compete in the NSWCCC Championships in June.

Athan Tzanis (Rice) placed 10th in the 100m Butterfly. Harrison Tzanis (Rice) placed 4th in the 50m Breastroke and 6th in the 100m Breastroke. Kai Robertson (Nagle) swam in multiple events throughout the day. He was NSWCCC Champion in the 200m Freestyle and 400m Freestyle. Kai also set a new 400m Freestyle record. This makes him the fastest Under 14’s 400m Freestyle swimmer in NSWCCC history.

Well done boys on your fantastic efforts. NSWCCC/ALL Schools Representatives
