“I'm dreaming of a white Christmas,

Just like the ones I used to know,

Where the tree tops glisten

And children listen

To hear sleigh bells in the snow.”

- Irving Berlin

EMCO Airdrie, in partnership with our friends at In Hot Water Spas, is proud to offer the chance to

Win a 7.5 foot Fully Decorated Christmas Tree.

Any cash donation to the Boys and Girls Club of Airdrie gives you one entry into the draw. The tree is on display, and donations are accepted at In Hot Water Spas, 2145 Summerfield Blvd. Phone: 912-2045. The draw will be held on December 15th. EMCO Airdrie purchased this special tree at a charity auction to support diabetes awareness and education. We want to continue the spirit of giving by donating this tree to raise funds for the Boys and Girls Club of Airdrie. The winner of the tree may choose to keep the tree or may continue the spirit of giving by donating the tree in their name to the charity of their choice. If the winner chooses to donate this beautiful tree, the tree will ultimately benefit three different charitable organizations. The tree will be delivered free within Airdrie, compliments of EMCO Airdrie. The theme of the tree is Sugar and Spice and All Things Nice. The tree was designed by The Grade 2 Students of Holy Family Academy in Brooks & Mrs. Tracy Kuffner. All decorations on the tree were made by the Grade 2 students and represent “some of their favourite things”: snowmen, reindeer and gingerbread peo-ple. Experience Christmas through the eyes of a child.

Special thanks to In Hot Water Spas for their support in our efforts to give back to the community!

ASK A POLICE OFFICER While taking a routine vandalism report at an elementary school, I was interrupted by a little girl about six years old. Looking up and down at my uniform, she asked, "Are you a police officer?" "Yes," I answered, and continued writing the report. "My mother said if I ever needed help I should ask the police. Is that right?" "Yes, that's right," I told her. "Well, then," she said as she extended her foot toward me, "would you please tie my shoe?"

ASTRONOMY QUIZ

My daughter's 5th-grade class had been studying astronomy. One morning at breakfast she announced, "On Friday we're having a quiz on the moon." That's when her little brother piped up, saying, "Are you gonna let her go, Mom?"

How can I tell if I have a cold or the flu? A cold and the flu have many of the same symptoms. But a cold is generally mild, while the flu tends to be more severe. A cold often starts with feeling tired, sneezing, coughing and a runny nose. You may not have a fever or you may run a low fever - just a degree or two higher than usual. You may also have muscle aches, a scratchy or sore throat, watery eyes and a headache. As the cold worsens, your nasal mucus may turn from thin and watery to yellow and thick. Your symptoms may vary with each cold. A cold usually lasts three or four days but can last up to 10 days. Many adults will have a least one or two colds a year, and most children will have five to eight. Colds are most common during months when people tend to gather indoors, such as in the winter. The flu, which is a nickname for the influenza virus, starts suddenly and hits hard. Your fever may go as high as 40C (105F). You'll probably feel weak and tired, and have a dry cough, a runny nose, chills, muscle aches, severe headache and a sore throat. The fever may last for three to five days. After the flu goes away, you may still feel weak and tired or keep coughing for

up to three weeks. The flu is most common in winter and early spring. It often occurs in outbreaks. The flu virus changes often. About every 10 years it undergoes major changes, so that more severe outbreaks occur. What causes colds and the flu? Viruses. Over 100 different viruses can cause colds. The flu, on the other hand, is caused by just a few different viruses each year. That's why there's a vaccine for flu but not for colds. Source: College of Family Physicians of Canada
