Message from Vice Principal:
Dear Parents,
Christmas Greetings to all and best wishes on the advent of New Year. It is a
matter of great privilege and immense pleasure for me to be a part of one of the
premier institutes. I am really happy to address you through this magazine.
Mastermindz, an embodiment of innovation and novel ideas, catalogue the path
of progress that students pave as they move regally ahead in academics, sports
and co curricular activities. It also showcases the pride that the students take in
being a part of events and community service programmes.
Delhi Public School offers an array of principles and values that integrate in the
life of every child, giving them an all round development – where learning skills,
problem solving, critical thinking assimilate with the emotional, social and
physical needs of a child. In lieu of this, we plan to reinforce the learning process
in an exemplary manner through Swami Vivekananda’s message of infinite
potential in every individual. This can be manifested as excellence in every walk
of life to empower students in a real and tangible way and help them develop as
enlightened citizens. Delhi Public School adopts a holistic approach while
addressing the key issues. My endeavour would be to lead my team to
synchronise the scope and activities with the goals of this leading institute and
to make the process transparent to initiate more parent participation.
Keeping up with the spirit of the school which inculcates organizing one’s
actions, thoughts and aspirations I will try to make this year a success for the
students as well as the community.

Shapes are all around us, in all that we see!
It just needs our sense of sight and touch to
identify them. By learning about shapes
children build their cognitive, logical and
writing skills. To introduce basic shapes,
the students of Prep celebrated Shapes Day
on 7th August. The tiny tots had brought
pictures and objects of different shapes
with them to be displayed. It was a fun

“As we seek to strengthen the enduring values of the family it is appropriate that
we honour our Grandparents!” They are our continued bridge with the near
past, the events, beliefs and the experience that so strongly affect our lives and
the world around us.
8
To honour the warmest, benevolent and the
most experienced angels of our lives, the
children of Prep and Jr. Kg. celebrated
Grandparents’ Day on 11th and 12th September.
This gave the grandparents, an opportunity to
showcase their talent in front of their
children’s children. They shared their
experiences, narrated stories, played guitar on
popular nursery rhymes, recited ‘shlokas’ and sang songs and bhajans for their
grandchildren. They also came up with poems composed by them such as,”Dil pe
hai jiska Saaya, DPS naam hai uska”.The atmosphere of the school ground was
brimming with exuberance when all the grannies came together to sing and
dance to their heart’s fill to popular garba songs. All the grandpas and
grandmas went back to their retro days while playing antakshari.
The children, in turn performed for their grandparents. They danced, sang
rhymes and enacted a socio dramatic play on Plants.
The two way flow of love and affection of the grandparents and their
grandchildren was indeed heart warming! The programme culminated with the
distribution of a memento to each grandparent.

“The Earth laughs in flowers……. Flowers are a
proud assertion that a ray of beauty out values
all the utilities of the world.” - Ralph Waldo
Emerson
Indeed, flowers are the purest and the most
beautiful creation of nature, loved and adored
by all!
9
To learn about flowers and to make children aesthetically aware, Flower Day
was organized on 20th September for our little budding flowers of Prep. The
children brought flowers from homes. With the help of their teacher they
identified and learned their names, at the same time observing their
characteristics, e.g. colour, shades, fragrance and other features.
The children enjoyed making a ‘Rangoli’ with flowers. Spreading fragrance and
beautifying the surroundings with their little hands was a thrilling experience
for them!

their classmates at the rate of Rs. 10/ - per Kg!
On 25th September, 2013 some children of Sr.
and Jr. Kg. came to school dressed up as
vegetable vendors. All the kids played roles of
sellers and buyers. They learned how to weigh with the help of weighing scale
and could memorize the names of vegetables displayed. There couldn’t be a
more interesting vegetable market in the world where the buyers and sellers
sang vegetable songs instead of creating a noisy market scene!
The toddlers of Prep had an even more exciting Vegetable Day on 4th October.
They brought different vegetables from home and the teachers prepared the
salad for them. What a lip-smacking way of learning the importance of different
types of vegetables in our daily diet!

What could be a better stride towards the
achievement of this learning in a fun way!!!
Just before Diwali break, Mithai Sharing Day was
observed by the little social birds of DPS, Bopal
Preschool on 31st October. In line with our Indian tradition of exchanging

sweets and snacks platters with friends and relatives on festivals, our
children brought mouthwatering sweets along with their tiffins and shared them
with friends.
To add to all the fun and excitement, the children had a great time making
‘nariyal laddoos’ with the help of their teachers. They also made diyas and gifted
them to their friends. The environment agog with festive spirit saw the ‘Halwai

Milestones represent progress, growth and
achievement. The 100th day of school is a
milestone which offers a great opportunity
for creative learning and celebrations!
DPS Bopal Preschool celebrated 100th day where children came in to school
creatively dressed with hundred objects adorning their attire. Some students
brought collection of 100 objects to share with the class. Activities like clapping,
jumping, sorting and classifying reinforced the concept of counting till hundred.
Little Jr .Kg tiny tots made cards saying “I am 100 days smarter”. Prep and Sr. Kg
students coloured headbands for themselves and wore their crowns with pride!
The children who attended school on all the 100 days were recognized with

“Spending time with children is more
important than spending money on children.”
Hectic work schedules and meeting deadliness
can take a toll on the amount of time families
spend together. A day out can strengthen
bonds and build memories that we can cherish
all our lives! We, at D.P.S. Bopal, provided this
opportunity to the students of Prep by
organizing a “FAMILY DAY OUT” for them on 22nd November. Our tiny tots
spent the evening having loads of fun playing one minute games and
participating in races along with their parents.
Games such as beading, clothespin drop, straw beans, balloon race etc. were fun
filled and were well received by the parents and children. It was a joy to see the
little ones participate in games and races along with their parents, laughing and
thoroughly enjoying. The prizes were given with a word of encouragement by
our Headmistress Ms. Sabina Sawhney. Good wholesome fun for the parents and

"Tell me and I will forget.
Show me and I will remember.
Involve me and I will understand."
This famous Chinese proverb beautifully
explains the very need of Drama in the
learning process of a child. Dramatic
exploration can provide kids with an outlet for emotions, thoughts and dreams
that they may not otherwise have means to express. Thus drama/role play is a
highly important activity for a preschooler’s confidence and expression building
apart from stimulating, creativity in problem solving.
In order to enhance these skills DPS, Bopal Preschool started an English Speech
and Drama Programme in association with the internationally known Helen O’

day. The programme started with great zeal!

Nature (Environment) and Nurture (Genes) are
the two important factors that determine a
child’s intelligence type. The theory of Multiple
Intelligence, which was developed by Dr.
Howard Gardner, is very useful for developing a
systematic approach in recognizing the
individual needs and strengths within a
classroom and then altering the teaching style
accordingly. DPS Bopal Preschool has been practicing this theory since long
which has helped the children to develop in all the intelligences.
To make parents more aware of this theory, a workshop on Multiple Intelligence
was conducted by Dr. Shailendra Gupta on Saturday, 10th August, 2013. The
entire session aimed at making us aware that intelligence is multi faceted and
hence no child can be labelled as smart or dull. It was an interactive workshop
that kept all participants on their toes with many activities to indulge in and it
kept them engrossed.

Good Health is probably one of the greatest gifts we can confer upon our
children! Parents play a key role in doing so by providing them with good
nutrition. That is why engaging parents in discussions about nutrition and food
plays a vital role in nurturing the development of healthy habits in preschoolers.
19
In an effort to provide parents with the tool and
information they need to mould their children
into eating healthy, DPS Bopal Preschool
organized a workshop, “Fueling Your Child’s
Health Engine”, which was conducted by a
qualified nutritionist, Vaishali Khanna, on 7th
September. A host of topics like nutrients, meal
planning, eating out and snacking were
highlighted in the workshop.

Temper tantrums are a part of everyone’s life,
whether we are children or adults! As babies
start blossoming into toddlers, they learn at an
extraordinary pace. Sometimes their cognitive
and physical skills are not in sync. This leads to
frustration, which further gives rise to temper
tantrums.
Maturing is all about managing our emotions
more effectively and it’s a lifetime project. We cannot prevent tantrums, but we
can impact upon their incidence and extent by the way we respond to our
children’s outbursts, creating an environment that allows both, us and our
children to endure together.
To help parents build a relationship of companionship to nurture a happy
childhood for their children, DPS Bopal, Pre-school organized an interactive
workshop on 19th October, 2013. Ms. Iti Shukla, a qualified counselor conducted
the workshop where she gave various tips on how to deal with temper tantrums.

Mathematics is a creation of human mind concerned chiefly with ideas,
processes and reasoning. It is intimately connected with everyday life!
Jodo gyan workshop for parents and teachers on making numbers fun,
conducted by Shaji from Delhi showed that mathematics is no more the
prerogative of the intellectual mind. It is up to us, teachers, parents and
guardians how we deal with concepts so as to make a
child inclined towards numbers. Based on international
research, Jodo Gyan is a trust for learning and co-
operation that deals with the pedagogy of learning
Mathematics and Science.
The three sessions of the workshops were highly
interactive and gave opportunity for hands on
experience. Numbers truly can be exciting the Jodo Gyan
way!
