INTRODUCTION

Sixth Sense is a wearable gestural interface that augments the physical world around us with digital information.

Technology that plays with Human gestures to make the world more interactive and workflow much easier.

It is developed by Pranav Mistry, of Indian origin, a PhD student in the Fluid Interfaces Group at the MIT Media Lab is the mastermind behind the sixth sense technology.

Sixth Sense Technology comprises a pocket projector,a mirror and a camera. The hardware components are coupled in a pendant like mobile wearable device.

HISTORYThe history of "6th sense technology" goes back

into 1990's when Steve Mann first attempted to propose a neckworn projector and a camera combination.

SixthSense is a gesture-based wearable computer system developed at MIT Media Lab by Steve Mann in 1994.

The idea of implementing computer technologies to daily tasks as our "6th sense" was further developed by Pranav Mistry who also appears to be an MIT student as well as Steve Mann.

PROTOTYPE & CONSTRUCTION

Page 6: 6 th sense technology

COMPONENTSCAMERA:-

Also called as digital eye as it analyses the digital pixels.

It captures the object in view and tracks the gestures.

Page 7: 6 th sense technology

PROJECTOR:-

The projector projects visual information enabling surfaces and physical objects to be used as interfaces.

It displays data sent from the smart phone on any surface in view–object, wall, or person.

Page 8: 6 th sense technology

SMART PHONE:-

A web enabled smart phone in the user’s pocket processes the video data.

Other software searches the web and interprets the hand gestures.

Page 9: 6 th sense technology

COLOR MARKERS:-

At the tip of the user’s fingers.

Helps the webcam to recognize the gestures.

The movements and arrangements of these makers are interpreted into gestures.

Page 10: 6 th sense technology

MIRROR:-

The usage of the mirror is significant as the projector dangles pointing downwards fromthe neck.

APPLICATIONS:-

MAKE A CALL:-

We can make calls with help of sixth sense device .

The sixth sense device is used to project the keypad into your palm and the using that virtual keypad we can make calls to anyone.

Page 13: 6 th sense technology

CALL UP A MAP:-

The sixth sense also implements map which lets the user display the map on any physical surface and find his destination and he can use his thumbs and index fingers to navigate the map, for example, to zoom in and out and do other controls.

CHECK THE TIME:-

Sixth Sense all we have to do is draw a circle on our wrist with our index finger to get a virtual watch that gives us the correct time.

The computer tracks the red marker cap or piece of tape, recognizes the gesture, and instructs the projector to flash the image of a watch onto his wrist.

CREATE MULTIMEDIA READING EXPERIENCES:-

The Sixth Sense system also augments physical objects the user is interacting with by projecting more information about these objects projected on them.

For example, a newspaper can show live video news or dynamic information can be provided on a regular piece of paper. Thus a piece of paper turns into a video display.

DRAWING APPLICATION:-

The drawing application lets the user draw on any surface by tracking the fingertip movements of the user’s index finger.

ZOOMING FEATURES:-

Figure 5.6: Zoom in and Zoom out

The user can zoom in or zoom out using intuitive hand movements.

GET PRODUCT INFORMATION:-

Sixth Sense uses image recognition or marker technology to recognize products you pick up, then feeds you information on those products.

Page 19: 6 th sense technology

GET BOOK INFORMATION:-

The system can project Amazon ratings on that book, as well as reviews and other relevant information.

Page 20: 6 th sense technology

TAKE PICTURE:-

If we fashion our index fingers and thumbs into a square (the typical "framing" gesture),the system will snap a photo. After taking the desired number of photos, we can project them onto a surface, and use gestures to sort through the photos, and organize and resize them.

GET FLIGHT UPDATES:-

The system will recognize your boarding pass and let you know whether your flight is on time and if the gate has changed.

CONCLUSION:-

• Integrating information to everyday objects will not only help us to get rid of the digital divide, but will also help us in some way to stay human, to be more connected to our physical world.
