VISITS TO THE BRITISH AND FRENCH CAPITALS. BEGIN IN LONDON,

to explore Elizabethan theatrical costumes at the Globe Theatre and visit the

National Portrait Gallery in the company of a fashion and textiles expert. Enjoy a

special tour of the workshop and livery department of Henry Poole & Co., Savile

Row’s first tailor. Walk along the Thames to the Fashion and Textile Museum,

followed by afternoon tea with a British designer. At the Victoria & Albert Museum,

admire its extensive costume and textile collections and see the Alexander

McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition, the first European retrospective of the

late designer’s work. In Paris, survey centuries of fashion history at the recently

reopened Musée Galliera, housed in a 19th-century palace, and at the Musée

MARY E. DAVIS is the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She earned her PhD and AM degrees in musicology from Harvard, and prior to coming to FIT was a professor in the Department of Music at Case Western Reserve University from 1998 to 2012. Specializing in cross-disciplinary studies of fashion, music, and culture, Dr. Davis has published and lectured widely on these subjects. Her most recent book,

Ballet Russes Style: Diaghilev’s Dancers and Paris Fashion,earned praise in sources ranging from The New York Times to specialized academic journals. Her monograph, Classic Chic: Music, Fashion, and Modernism, examined how the designs of such couturiers as Paul Poiret and Coco Chanel influenced Erik Satie, Igor Stravinsky, and other composers, and was shortlisted for the Costume Institute of America’s Millia Davenport Publication Award. Dr. Davis has spoken on the intersection of fashion, culture, and music at Parsons The New School for Design, Boston University, Harvard, and other institutions.

See the selection of costumes created by Jenny Tiramani for the Globe’s original practice productions, using carefully researched and reproduced Elizabethan techniques. Continue to the National Portrait Gallery to observe the changes in clothing styles with a special fashion and textiles expert as your guide. The remainder of the day is at leisure. (B)

MONDAY, MARCH 16

LONDON Spend the morning on the famed Savile Row in Mayfair. Begin at the Savile Row Bespoke Association, a group of tailoring houses devoted to protecting and enhancing this neighborhood’s reputation for custom-designed men’s tailoring. Visit one of the members, the renowned Henry Poole & Co., for a special tour of the workshop and livery department. After lunch, walk along the Bankside of the Thames to the Fashion and Textile Museum, followed by afternoon tea with a British designer. The evening is at leisure. (B,L)

FRIDAY, MARCH 13

DEPART U.S. Depart the U.S. on an overnight flight to London.

SATURDAY, MARCH 14

LONDON, ENGLANDArrive in London and transfer to Kensington Palace for lunch. Explore the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection at the Fashion Rules exhibition, including gowns worn by the

Queen and an exquisite silver threaded court dress from the 1760s. Then admire the permanent collection at the Chelsea salon of the much-loved Royal couturier, the late Catherine Walker, one of Princess Diana’s favorite designers. Transfer to the centrally located Taj St. James’ Court Hotel. This evening gather for a welcome dinner. (L,D)

LONDON / PARIS, FRANCEThis morning enjoy a tour of the Victoria & Albert Museum, with its extensive costume and textile collections and the recently opened Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition. Then travel by Eurostar train to Paris, with lunch served on board. Upon arrival, transfer to the Hôtel Pont Royal for check- in. Dinner this evening is at a nearby restaurant. (B,L,D)

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 18

PARISTour the recently reopened Musée Galliera, housed in a 19th-century Renaissance-style palace and boasting collections showcasing the development of fashion from the 18th century to the present day.

Following lunch, continue to the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, whose fashion collections trace the development of costumes and accessories from France’s Regency period to contemporary designers. The rest of the day is at leisure. (B,L)

PARISToday you are invited to the Yves St. Laurent Foundation, for an exclusive look at the designer’s private library and office. After lunch, stop at the original Chanel boutique at 31 Rue Cambon, with its famous mirrored staircase. The evening is at leisure. (B,L)

LONDON Spend the morning on the famed Savile Row in Mayfair. Begin at the Savile Row Bespoke Association, a group of tailoring houses devoted to protecting and enhancing this neighborhood’s reputation for custom-designed men’s tailoring. Visit one of the members, the renowned Henry Poole & Co., for a special tour of the workshop and livery department. After lunch, walk along the Bankside of the Thames to the Fashion and Textile Museum, followed by afternoon tea with a British designer. The evening is at leisure. (B,L)

Begin at the Savile Row Bespoke Association, a group of tailoring houses devoted to protecting and enhancing this neighborhood’s reputation for custom-designed men’s tailoring. Visit one of the members, the renowned Henry Poole & Co., for a special tour of the workshop and livery department. After lunch, walk along the Bankside of the Thames to the Fashion and Textile Museum, followed by afternoon tea with a British designer. The evening is at leisure. (B,L)

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS All cancellations must be made in writing to HAA Travels and are subject to a $350 nonrefundable administrative fee. Cancellations received between 120 and 91 days prior to departure will be charged a fee in the amount of 20 percent of the program cost per person; those received between 90 and 61 days before departure, 50 percent; no refunds will be given

for cancellations received within 60 days of departure. No refunds are given for cancellation on or after the day of departure, or for unused portions of the tour, for any reason.

CHANGES IN ITINERARY & COSTS The itinerary is subject to change at the discretion of HAA Travels and the tour operator. Deviations from the scheduled itinerary are at the expense of the individual. All prices quoted are based on prevailing fuel prices, airfare, and currency exchange rates in effect at the time of brochure printing and are subject to change. PROGRAM RATE PER PERSON $7,995 per person; $1,450 single supplement. Rate includes: three nights accommodations in London at Taj St. James’ Court Hotel; four nights accommodations in Paris at Hôtel Pont Royal; buffet breakfast daily, five lunches, and three dinners with wine; escorted sightseeing with English-speaking guide and entrance fees for all included visits; touring via private motor coach; Eurostar ticket London-Paris, Standard Premier Class; airport/hotel group transfers for all participants on suggested group flights; taxes, service charges, and porterage for one suitcase per person; gratuities to local guides and drivers; pre-departure material; $200,000 medical evacuation insurance.

TOUR COST EXCLUSIONS Airfare; passport fees; alcoholic beverages other than as specified above; personal items and expenses; airport transfers for those not on suggested group flights; excess baggage; trip insurance; alcoholic beverages at meals other than wine at included dinners; any other items not specifically mentioned as included.

RESERVATIONS, DEPOSITS & FINAL PAYMENT To reserve your space on this program, a $1,500 deposit is required per person. Please either call us at 800.422.1636 or 617.496.0806, or fill out and mail or fax the registration form. Reservations are acknowledged in order of receipt until the maximum enrollment has been reached. Your final payment is due 120 days before departure and must be made by check.

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS All cancellations must be made in writing to HAA Travels and are subject to a $350 nonrefundable administrative fee. Cancellations received between 120 and 91 days prior to departure will be charged a fee in the amount of 20 percent of the program cost per person; those received between 90 and 61 days before departure, 50 percent; no refunds will be given

for cancellations received within 60 days of departure. No refunds are given for cancellation on or after the day of departure, or for unused portions of the tour, for any reason.

CHANGES IN ITINERARY & COSTS The itinerary is subject to change at the discretion of HAA Travels and the tour operator. Deviations from the scheduled itinerary are at the expense of the individual. All prices quoted are based on prevailing fuel prices, airfare, and currency exchange rates in effect at the time of brochure printing and are subject to change. While the tour operator will do everything possible to maintain the published trip price, it may be necessary to institute a surcharge.

INSURANCE We highly recommend the purchase of trip cancellation insurance. An application for insurance will be provided by HAA Travels upon confirmation.

to explore Elizabethan theatrical costumes at the Globe Theatre and visit the

National Portrait Gallery in the company of a fashion and textiles expert. Enjoy a

special tour of the workshop and livery department of Henry Poole & Co., Savile

Row’s first tailor. Walk along the Thames to the Fashion and Textile Museum,

followed by afternoon tea with a British designer. At the Victoria & Albert Museum,

admire its extensive costume and textile collections and see the Alexander

McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition, the first European retrospective of the

late designer’s work. In Paris, survey centuries of fashion history at the recently

reopened Musée Galliera, housed in a 19th-century palace, and at the Musée

des Arts Décoratifs at the Louvre. Enjoy a private viewing of Yves St. Laurent’s

personal library and office before touring the famed House of Chanel on the Rue

Cambon, and spend a morning amid the masterpieces at the Musée d’Orsay.

MARY E. DAVIS is the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She earned her PhD and AM degrees in musicology from Harvard, and prior to coming to FIT was a professor in the Department of Music at Case Western Reserve University from 1998 to 2012. Specializing in cross-disciplinary studies of fashion, music, and culture, Dr. Davis has published and lectured widely on these subjects. Her most recent book,

Ballet Russes Style: Diaghilev’s Dancers and Paris Fashion,earned praise in sources ranging from The New York Times to specialized academic journals. Her monograph, Classic Chic: Music, Fashion, and Modernism, examined how the designs of such couturiers as Paul Poiret and Coco Chanel influenced Erik Satie, Igor Stravinsky, and other composers, and was shortlisted for the Costume Institute of America’s Millia Davenport Publication Award. Dr. Davis has spoken on the intersection of fashion, culture, and music at Parsons The New School for Design, Boston University, Harvard, and other institutions.
