1. INTRODUCTION
Nestled in the panoramic scenes of Karaikal - a coastal enclave in the basin of
river Cauvery in the Union Territory of Puducherry - National Institute of Technology
Puducherry, established in 2010 under the Eleventh Five Year Plan, is one among the
ten new NITs sanctioned by the Govt. of India in 2009. The Institute is a rapidly growing
educational institution of Technical education and is striding ahead in establishing its
qualitative base in Research and Higher Learning under the Ministry of Human
Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi. The National Institute of
Technology Puducherry is herewith submitting its 6th Annual Report 2015-16 to the
Parliament.
Its functioning is in complete accordance with the directives of the Government
requirements for the establishment of New NITs, such as minimum of 300 acres of
Land, Connecting Roads, Continuous Water Supply, Electricity etc. Further, owing to its
prime location and leading industrial background, the Government of Union Territory of
Puducherry identified the land in Poovam and Thiruvetakudy village at Karaikal for
permanent campus construction of NIT Puducherry.
The preliminary academic session commenced in June 2010 under the
mentorship of National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (NIT-T) and thereafter,
since 2011, NIT Puducherry took control of its own administration and management,
and till date has created three successful pass out batches of (2014,2015 & 2016)
worthy technocrats with moral values and futuristic insight. The Institute is now
operational in its permanent campus situated at Poovam Village, Thiruvettakdy, at
Karaikal.

2. LOCATION
The Union Territory of Puducherry is constituted out of the four erstwhile French
establishments of Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam. Karaikal region is embedded in the
Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur Districts of Tamil Nadu state. Karaikal is well connected by Road
network, 320 KM from Chennai, 130 KM from Puducherry, 16 KM from Nagapattinam and 160
KM from Tiruchirappalli. Also, it is connected by Rail from Ernakulum, Chennai, Velankanni,
Bangalore, Mumbai and construction of Airport at Nedungadu is in progress. The campus is very
well connected with road transport. The geographical demography of Karaikal district is10° 49'
34" N South,11° 0' 25" N North, 79° 43' 15" E West and 79° 51' 35" E East.

The climate at Karaikal is tropical and it suffers with maximum temperature in the
month of May and June whereas minimum during the month of October to February. On an
average, 45°C is recorded as maximum and 20°C as minimum. The maximum rainfall is received
from the Northeast monsoon during the month of October to December.

Apart from the Pilgrim centers, Karaikal Port, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation and many large
and medium scale industries like Johnson Ceramic Tiles Industry, Henkel Chemical Industry etc. plays
vital role for the selection of the location. Karaikal has number of English Medium and Tamil Medium
private schools, Matriculation Schools etc. Apart from that Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodhaya School,
Government Polytechnic, Industrial Training School etc. are also available. Arignar Anna Govt. Arts &
Science College, Avvaiyar Govt. College for Women, Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Institute of Technology
( Govt. Engg. College), Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural College (Govt. Agri. College), Perunthalaivar
Kamarajar College of Education (B. Ed. College), Two Self Financing Engg. Colleges, one private Medical
College etc., make Karaikal as education centre. Above said facilities made the Govt. of Puducherry to
select Karaikal as an apt place for the National Institute of Technology Puducherry.
A four member team formed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi
visited the site and accorded approval in 2010 and subsequently by expert from Educational Consultant
India Ltd (EdCIL), Government of India Undertaking at Noida inspected the place. A land of area of
256.59 acres given by Government of Puducherry has scenic beauty of sea shore on eastern side and
several water canals passing through. The presence of water bodies and greenery in the area provides
pollution free and Eco-friendly atmosphere, an apt place to establish an Educational Institution.
2.1 REGISTRATION
Initially, the Institute was registered as Society under Societies Registration Act 1860 with the
Registrar of Companies, Puducherry on 25.3.2010 vide registration No. 134/2010 during March 2010
with members from Govt. of Puducherry, Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi and
Mentor Institute.
In the year 2012-13, the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development,
Dept. of Higher Education, New Delhi have brought all the ten new National Institute of Technology
formed during 2009-10 under the National Institute of Technology Act, 2007( 29 of 2007) passed by
Parliament by NIT (Amendment) Act 2012 ( 28 of 2012) on 7th June 2012. This has been communicated
by the Ministry vide its letter no. F.33-8/2012-TS III dated 12.11.2012.

3.1 BOARD OF GOVERNORS
The Chairman
Dr. Baldev Raj - a distinguished Scientist (published 700 research papers in leading
International and National Journals, authored 42 books, delivered more than 300 honor, planetary
keynotes and invited lectures etc.), Awardee of Padma Shri, Prof. Brham Prakash memorial Medal Of
INSA 2013, 1st Dr. Homi J. Bhabha Centenary Year Award etc., President of Indian National Academy of
Engineering, Director (Retd.) Indira Gandhi Center for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam, President Research
PSG Institutions, Fellow of The Third World Academy of Sciences etc., Member of the German National
Academy of Science etc., - was appointed as the First Chairman, Board of Governors of National
Institute of Technology Puducherry by Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource
Development, New Delhi with the approval of the Visitor (MHRD letter No. F.23-19/2010-TS II (Pt)
Dated 5.1.2011).
The Director
Dr.(Mrs) S. K. Pandey, Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, NIT Tiruchirappalli -
having more than 40 years of experience in Teaching and Research (Published more than 125 papers in
referred International, National Journals and Conferences, guided four Ph. Ds), received several awards
such as Tamil Nadu Woman Scientist Award for Engineering and Technology for the year 1999-2000.
She was the First Director of NIT Srinagar (J & K) during 2003 – 2005, First regular Director, SLIET,
Longowal, Punjab (Govt. of India, MHRD funded Institution) Deemed to be University (2006-2008),
Director of NIT, Raipur ( 2008-2011) – was selected by the Ministry of Human Resource Development,
New Delhi, as Director of the NIT Puducherry at Karaikal as first regular Director.
Dr. (Mrs.) S. K. Pandey has joined National Institute of Technology Puducherry on 16.12.2011
F.N. and continued during the year under report. The Govt. of India, Ministry of Human Resource
Development, Dept. of Higher Education, New Delhi, had issued order for the constitution of the Board
as per NIT Act 2007 and communicated the same in their letter no.F28-37/2012-TS III dated 8.11.2012.

3.2 SENATE
The National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli (Mentor institute) Senate was adopted as
Senate for the NIT Puducherry also till the Institute was brought under NIT Act 2007. During the year
under report, the Institute has formed its own Senate with their faculty members and nomination from
the Board. During the year 2015-16 the two meetings of the senate were held.

4. ACADEMICS
4.1 COURSES OFFERED
National Institute of Technology Puducherry offers Under Graduate Engineering course in four
branches and has Doctoral Programme from the February session – 2014.
The following Courses were offered during the year under report:

Each branch of B. Tech has been sanctioned with an intake of 30 students per annum and 15
Seats were sanctioned for M. Tech.
SUBJECT
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering Graphics, Energy and Environment
Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Basics of Programming and English subjects were taught for the
first year students and Second year & third year branch wise syllabus EEE, ECE ,CSE and Mechanical
were taught.
Further, after joining of regular faculty, Board of studies in all the departments have
been conducted and the new syllabus has been adopted.

Ph. D. SCHOLARSHIP
The National Institute of Technology Puducherry announced to provide financial
support/ scholarship to a few full time research scholars who are not receiving any financial support/
scholarship from other Agencies or State or Central Governments.
They are required to assist the Department in the academic work for at least 8 hours
per week as per guidelines issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Govt. of
India, in addition to satisfying other conditions for the award /renewal of the fellowship.

4.3 ADMISSION
Similar to other National Institutes of Technology in the country, the admission for the
Under Graduate courses was made through on the Joint Engg. Entrance Examination – Central Seat
Allocation Board- 2015 (JEE-CSAB) rank basis.
The National Institute of Technology Puducherry has also been identified as one of the
Help Center and Reporting Center by the JEE – CSAB during 2015-16.
During the year under report, 102 students joined at National Institute of Technology
Puducherry under UG Courses and 09 students joined under PG courses.

4.4 FACULTY
Due to non-availability of sufficient faculty Walk in interview was conducted on 27.07.2015 by
giving advertisement in Daily Thanthi and also displayed in Institute website.
As per the instructions of the 8th BoG meeting Item No (IV(2)), Selection Committee have been
constituted. Based on the recommendations of the committee, the following faculty members were
given temporary appointment on contract basis on a consolidated pay of Rs.35000/- per month for
those possessing M. Tech. Degree and Rs.42000/- per month for those possessing Ph. D till the end of
this semester i.e. up to Dec 2015 or till the appointment of regular faculty whichever is earlier.

4.8 EXAMINATIONS AND RESULTS
The Examination system of National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli is being
followed at NIT Puducherry also.
Two cycle tests - of 20 marks each, one Internal Assessment – of 10 marks, and a
semester examination – of 50 marks, will be conducted in a semester. In a year, 4 cycle tests and 2
semester examinations will be conducted. In order to assess the quality of education provided by the
faculty, the External Examiners from NIT Trichy, IIT Madras etc. were engaged.
RESULTS
The second batch of B. Tech. students (108) from all the three streams have successfully
passed out from NIT Puducherry.

6. INFRASTRUCTURE
6.1 LAND
The Govt. of Puducherry, Dept. of Revenue and Disaster Management, Puducherry vide
G.O.Ms. No. 60 dated 4.2.2011 transferred 16.01.50 Hectares (approximately 39.5 acres) of Govt. of
Puducherry puramboke lands and completed acquiring of private lands measuring 218.5 acres. The
Govt. of Puducherry, Chief Secretariat (Edn), Puducherry vide G.O.Ms. No.105 dated 16.11.2012
transferred 88.52.80 Hectares the private lands acquired for the establishment of National Institute of
Technology Puducherry at Poovam and Thiruvettakudi villages in Karaikal.
Hon’ble Shri N. Rangasamy, Chief Minister, Govt. of Puducherry had released the Govt. order
to Dr. (Mrs.) S. K. Pandey, Director, National Institute of Technology, Puducherry at his chamber on
10.12.2012. Faculty and Administrative staff also attended the function.
6.2 CLASS ROOMS & ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE
The Institute was started during 2010-11 in the temporary campus at Arignar Anna Govt. Arts
College Campus, Karaikal. In the year 2013 the Institute was provided with 3 more rooms and 2 halls at
Perunthalaivar Kamarajar College of Education, Nehru Nagar Karaikal. Currently, NIT Puducherry is
functioning with overall 10 class rooms, 5 Laboratories and 1 Mechanical workshop. Two private
premises have been rented to conduct practical of Physics, Chemistry and Mechanical Workshop.
In addition to the above, One room is being used as Library, one for administrative office, one
for Director’s Office and one to conduct seminars/meetings/placement activities etc. A dining hall and
toilet has been constructed for the use of students in the temporary campus and was opened on
29.09.14.

6.5 HOSTEL FACILITIES
The First batch of students (Boys) was accommodated in Karaikal Municipality Motel in
Bharathiar Road which was hired on rent and converted as Boys Hostel. The second year students
(Boys) were accommodated in the building by name “KRISHNA” in Sethilal Nagar which was hired from
private owners. Second Year and Third Year Girl students were accommodated in a complex having
nine houses at Keelakasakkudy which was also hired from private party. Third Batch of students
admitted during 2013-14 Boys were accommodated in a private building at Silver Sand Extension
Hostel. Girls were accommodated in a private building at Kottucherry. To accommodate the fourth
batch of students and to provide the facility of guest house the following buildings were rented:
1. AHM complex, Singaravelar Salai, Karaikal (for Boys Hostel)
2. Rabiathul Bashiria Building, Yaser Arafat Nagar (for Girls Hostel)
3. Shahul Hameed Building, Yaser Arafat Nagar (for Guest House)
4. A. J Clinic, Karaikal (for Boys Hostel)
5. Motel Hostel, Bharathiyar Road, Karaikal (for Boys Hostel)

All the hostels were provided with Colour T.V., Water Purifier, Carrom, Chess etc. for student
use. All the students were provided with one Steel Cot and Steel Chair in hostels. Dr. G. S. Mahapatra,
Dr. Narenderan Rajagopalan, Dr. B. Surendiran, Mr. Vishnu Umasankar have been given the
wardenship of Boys hostel. Dr. T Vinoprabha, Ms. A. Preethi, Ms. Habibba have been given the warden
ship of Girls hostel.

6.7 MESS & TRANSPORT FACILITIES
The distance of each hostel ranges from 2 to 5kms from temporary campus of the
Institute. Hence arrangements were made for the boarding facilities through outsourcing private
caterers. Transport arrangements were also made on contract basis for pick up and drop of the
students from hostels by inviting open tenders.
Boarding facilities were provided through a private catering firm to serve Breakfast,
Lunch, Evening snacks and Dinner per student. Except holidays, the caterer will provide Break Fast and
Lunch at the Institute, snacks and Dinner at the hostels.

Similarly, transport facilities were provided through a private transport firm for the
students for pick up and drop to students. In addition for laboratory trips to PKIET, Hospital trips are
also covered within the same
7. FUNCTIONS AND EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
7.1 INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION
Independence Day Celebration was organized on 15th August 2015 at NIT-Puducherry
(Arignar Anna Arts & Science College Campus), Karaikal, and the function was presided by the Director
of NIT-Puducherry. Function begins with the official parade to the Direct proceed with Flag hoisting
followed by National Anthem. Independence Day Official address was given by the Director relating to
the future plan and establishing infrastructure of the NIT-Puducherry to its next stage, includes the
declaration and honoring the achievement of various faculty and student for their contribution to
academic and research activities during the academic year 2015-2016.
Subsequently the culture programs were performed by the NIT students, starting with traditional South
Indian Barathanatiyam performance, Solo Song, Group Dance, Group Singing and Short Drama.
In order to encourage and motivate the students in extra-curricular activities in specific to
sports and games, winner of various competitions were honored with a trophy and certificates by the
Director.
Finally, the Dr. Smrutisikta Mishra, Assistant Professor ( English) delivered vote of thanks to
the Director in particular for her continuous encouragement, support to conduct the event and also
she extended her heartfelt thanks to various Committee Members, Faculties, Staffs and Students for
conducting the function a great success at NIT-Puducherry.

7.2 HINDI PAKHWADA
The Institute celebrated the Hindi Pakhwada from 9th to 24th September 2015, during academic
year 2015-16.
The program was inaugurated in the presence Dr. Ravikant Mishra, Registrar, NIT Puducherry
on 08-09-2015. Various program were conducted under Hindi Pakhwada which includes Hindi teaching
and learning session conducted by members of Rajbhasha Committee NIT Py for institute faculties and
staff members.
On 14-09-2015 Hindi diwas was celebrated. The program was inaugurated in the presence of
Chief-guest Dr. (Mrs.) S.K. Pandey Director, in chairmanship of Dr. Ravikant Mishra Registrar NIT
Puducherry members of Rajbhasha committee, NIT Puducherry faculty, students and staff of NIT
Puducherry.

After the address of the Registrar, the Director delivered a speech to the audience regarding the
importance of Rajbhasha Hindi as common language of communication in technical institutes,

7.3 DIGITAL INDIA ACTIVITIES
We have celebrated Digital India in our institute from 08.08.2015 to 22.08.2015. In this
program (Quiz, debate, essay, poster, movie on Digital India, songs on Digital India, workshop, Paper
presentation, Skit), are conducted in our institute. Over 150 students from all over Karaikal and
beyond stepped away from their regularly scheduled business took part in a ground breaking event
“Digital India” which turned out to be a huge success.
This event was conducted in our premises of National Institute of Technology Puducherry,
Karaikal under the patronage of Dr. (Mrs.) S. K. Pandey, Director and under the guidance of Dr. G.
Aghila, H.O.D. This event was organized by Mr. Malaya Kumar Nath Assistant Professor, Mr.
Aniruddha Kanhe Assistant Professor and Dr. G. Lakshmi Sutha Assistant Professor, Mrs.
BalaNivetha Assistant Professor, Mr. Om Prakash Acharya Assistant Professor, Dr. V. P. Harigovindan
Assistant Professor, Mrs. Boopathi Rani Assistant Professor, and Mr. Nagaraju Naik Technical
Assistant of the Electronics and Communication Department of NIT Puducherry. 87 students of the
ECE department of various years took the initiative and worked hard to assist the faculty and made
this event an unprecedented success.
The Digital India CD was released by the chief guest followed by prize distribution ceremony,
where the deserving were awarded according to their positions in the competitions like quiz, essay
and debate. Mrs. R. Boopathi Rani, AP/ECE has delivered the vote of thanks.
The final wave of Digital India took place at 22nd August which began with an airing start by
the Director of NIT Puducherry Dr. (Mrs.) S. K. Pandey. Dr. R. K. Mishra, Registrar welcomed the
gathering and gave introductory speech on Digital India. This was followed by the enlightening
Speech of the Chief Guest Dr. Satish Awlibadi, presentation by Dr. G Aghila, HOD of ECE Department
of NIT Puducherry and presentation by Dr. S. K. Pandey, Director of NIT Puducherry. Dr. S. K.
Pandey, Director necessitates the importance of digitization and her thought in receiving

application via online for interview process which saves paper as well as time in shortlisting
candidate for interview. She also spoke about fake calls and threat involved in online transactions
and security measures. After the conclusion of the formal section, competitions like poster
presentation, paper presentation, short film show and drama were conducted. Students came with
bright and innovating thoughts which were crafted as poster. The paper presentation began with
the innovating presentation of Dr A. K. Mishra, Mr.Malaya Kumar Nath and Dr. G. Lakshmi Sutha and
Mr. Aniruddha Kanhe followed by the presentations of various students with different innovative
thoughts.
The Official Closure of Digital India Event was done in the evening which began with a the
song composed by Marissa Catherine and Twikle Gildona Gilbert of 2nd year ECE Dept. then
Mastram of 4th year ECE presented his poem on digital India followed by skit prepared by Dilshad
2nd yr ECE. The short film prepared by Students of 3rd year ECE was shown which depicted the apt
situations of Digitizing lives. Mr. N. Raman General Manager, ONGC has attended the evening
function and delivered his speech on digitization advantages and disadvantages. The winners of
the competitions of poster and paper presentations were awarded by the chief guest. This was
followed by the vote of thanks by Mr Malaya Kumar Nath. The event was officially concluded by
the National Anthem which reminded everyone to strive towards the improvement of our country.
We hope that Digital India would revolutionize the thoughts and ideals of Our Country as India
strives to become one of the Super Power.

Tarangg’16, the third annual technical symposium of the Electronics and
Communications department of National Institute of Technology Puducherry was held on 04th
and 05thMarch of 2016.It was an infotainment packed fiesta which observed the active
involvement of nearly 200 students from exalted institutions in and around Tamil Nadu.
Tarangg’16 was inauguratedon 04thMarch 12noon by honorable director Dr. (Mrs.) S. K.
Pandey. The dais was also shared by the Head of Department Mrs. R. Boopathi Rani, the Faculty
Advisor for Tarangg’16 Mr. Malaya Kumar Nath, student president Shri Harsha and student
secretary miss Himani.
On the very first day of Tarangg’16 a workshop on Smart Home was conducted in IV EEE
Class room, in which 50 students from all over South India attended andshared a unique
experience in learning every basic aspects of Arduino and its application to home automation.
The second day of Tarangg’16 comprised offive technical events,aworkshop, five non-
technical events and an exhibition. The second workshopon Eye controlled robotics was
alsoconducted in IV EEE Class room,had witnessed an overall participation of 21students from
various colleges in and around Tamil Nadu. As a part of the technical events, Consilium, paper
presentation event was held where 7 teams with a total of 15 students presented papers
highlighting the current trends in the technical field. Thecoding event called SPHINXwas able to
achieve a participation of 12 teams consisting of 22 students from different colleges where they
were given the opportunity to test their coding skill. Another attraction among the technical
events was the APTRIX, a robotics contest where participant had to guide their bots through a
complicated maze. This event had 2 teams and a total participation of 4 students. The circuit
debugging event named DOT was able to draw in a total of 12 teams consisting of 18 students.
TheExhibition was held all through the day and has brought in a large number of audiences. The
Exhibition gave a platform for the school and college students to exhibit their innovative idea.
All the 07 model from college students and 05 model from school children presented were
greatly appreciated by the crowd.
The non-technical events included Quizu (quiz) which had 20 teams consisting of 40
participants ,Ground Zero(PC gaming) had 48 participants, photography had 21 participants,
DUBSMASH had 7 participants and few events in Fun Room with more participants. The
responses for the above events were quite overwhelming and proved that the students have
the potential to excel in every domain.
Tarangg’16 concluded with the valedictory function on 05thMarch at 06.00pm. Prizes to
the winners of the events were given at valedictory function.
The fusion of knowledge in every technical and non-technical event that occurred here
made Tarangg’16a distinct phenomenon. It was evident from the feedback received
thatTarangg’16 surpassed the expectations of every individual who stepped into this intriguing
world of knowledge and fun.

7.7 SPREEE 2K16
S.P.R.E.E.E(Symposium and Platform for Research in Electrical and Electronics
Engineering), the two day Annual Technical symposium organized by the Department of
Electrical & Electronics Engineering of NIT Puducherry aims to provide a platform for the
students across the country to assemble, interact, share and gain knowledge in various fields of
Electrical and Electronics technology. Through this symposium, we attract budding engineers
and scientists from all over the nation to display their skills in the challenging and exciting
events designed to exercise their brains and to further a spirit of technology.
SPREEE 2k16 was sponsored by ONGC, Cauvery Asset and has commenced its inaugural
ceremony on 10th march 2016, at 4:00PM. The fest was inaugurated by Executive Engineer,
CPWD, K.A.Thomas.
The symposium was successful with nearly 500 footfalls of various institutions from
Puducherry, Karaikal, Nagapattinam, Tiruchirapalli, Tirunelveli, Chennai, Coimbatore,
Hyderabad, Bangalore and many more places from South India and few registrations from
north Indian states such as Rajasthan.
The symposium was executed with two workshops and 10 events planned and
organized at its best quality.
A total of eight events were conducted which includes two pre-fest online events such
as SIMUL8 & ENTANGLED and six on-fest events such as Prastuti, Project X, Bug Busters, Rush
hour, Mega mind and Gamers’ dome.
PRE-FEST EVENTS:
SIMUL8:
Simul8, an online technical Matlab coding and simulation event was conducted
with a sufficient registrations.
ENTANGLED:
Entangled, an online treasure hunt event was a week event has been
conducted and has received hundreds of registrations from various countries.

ON-FEST EVENTS:
PRASTUTI:
Prastuti, a paper presentation event was conducted. The event has received
nearly 79 abstracts from various institutions across south India. A sum of 20
papers were selected and called for the presentation on the Dias.
PROJECT G:
Project G, an idea submission event was aimed at gathering green ideas from
the budding engineers to revolutionize the environment. It was conducted. The
event has received nearly 33 abstracts from various institutions across south
India. A sum of 20 abstracts were selected and called for the symposium to
present their ideas.
BUG BUSTERS:
Bug Busters, an Electrical circuit debugging event was conducted in two levels.
The event has received nearly 35 registrations. In preliminary level the
participants were asked to clear theoretical circuit analysis test. Selected
students from preliminary were given a task of diffusion a bomb circuit.
MEGA MIND:
Mega Mind, a technical quiz event was conducted. The event has received a
total of 53 registrations.
GAMERS’ DOME:
Gamers’ Dome, a gaming event was conducted. Various strategy games and
racing games were entertained and have received nearly 25 registrations.
VALEDICTION AND PRIZE DISTRIBUTION:
The valedictory ceremony of the event was held on 12-03-2016 and the prizes are
distributed to the winners in various events conducted.

7.8 GANDHI JAYANTHI CELEBRATION
NIT Puducherry showed its reverence to Mahatma Gandhi the Father of the Nation on
2.10.15. The Day started with paying homage to Gandhiji and garlanding his photo. A beautiful
Documentary was prepared by the students and was presented to the audience. Some cultural
singing and dance events were performed by the students on the stage. Two students gave
Hindi & English Speech. The Day ended with a tributary note.
Finally, the Dr.Smrutisikta Mishra, Assistant Professor ( English) delivered her vote of
thanks to the Director in particular for her continuous encouragement, support to conduct the

7.9 REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION
Republic Day Celebration was organized on 26th January 2016 at NIT-Puducherry
(Arignar Anna Arts & Science College Campus), Karaikal and the function was presided by the
Director of NIT-Puducherry. Function begins with the official parade to the Direct proceed with
Flag hoisting followed by National Anthem. Republic Day Official address was given by the
Director, Subsequently the culture programs were performed by the NIT students, starting with
prayer song, sang by Dr.Venkateshan (Assistant Professor in EEE), Group Dance, Group Singing
and Short Drama.
Finally, the Dr.Smrutisikta Mishra, Assistant Professor ( English) delivered her vote of
thanks to the Director in particular for her continuous encouragement, support to conduct the
event and also she extended her heartfelt thanks to various Committee Members, Faculties,

7.10 SPORTS DAY CELEBRATION
Sports Day Celebration was organized on 20th Feb 2016 at NIT-Puducherry (Arignar
Anna Arts & Science College Campus), Karaikal -609 605, and the function was presided by the
Director of NIT-Puducherry. Function begins prayer song and welcome address, Sport Day
Official address was given by the Director, Subsequently the culture programs were performed
by the NIT students, In order to encourage and motivate the students in sports and games,
winner of various competitions were honored with a trophy and certificates by the Director.
Nearly 10 games and 17 Athletics events were conducted for Boys and Girls.

7.14 SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN
Our institute is actively taking part in Swachha Bharat activities throughout the
year which includes Awareness program, regular cleaning at the classrooms, laboratories,
administrative offices, hostels, main road leading to NIT etc. Apart from these, institute is
emphasising ‘Swachha Bharat drive’ as per instructions from Govt. of India during following

7.16 BLOOD DONATION CAMP
Blood donation camp has been organized on 5-2-2016 at NIT Puducherry Campus. A
team of doctors and staff from JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education
& Research) have visited our campus, explained the importance of blood donation and clarified
the donor’s doubts. All the students, faculty and staff have actively participated in the event,
donating 59 (Fifty Nine units) of blood to (JIPMER).

7.18 YOGA DAY
In pursuance of the directive issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Development,
Department of Higher Education, vide circular No.13-13/2015-U.5dated 25th February, 2015 for,
celebration of International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2015 at National Institute of Technology
Puducherry, Karaikal. The basic aim of “INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA - 2015” is to bring spark
of inspiration and awareness of the yoga for all the age groups. The program was inaugurated
by Dr. (Mrs.) S. K. Pandey, Director on 21-06-15 at 15.30 hrs in the Seminar Hall, NITPy. The
yoga can be described as: Yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; a holistic
approach to health and well-being. It is not an exercise, but to discover the sense of oneness
within yourself. The positive response of the NIT employees was evident from their enthusiastic
participation in the International Day of Yoga – 2015.

7.19 NATIONAL CONSTITUTION DAY
The First “National Constitution Day” of India on the 26th of November2015 was
celebrated in our institute. The Preamble of the Constitution was read out aloud and all staff
and students repeated it and took the Pledge. Number of Competitions and discussions were
carried out to create awareness among the students regarding the greatness and secularity of
our constitution.
The Literary Committee organized Essay competition for the same on the Topic “The
Indian Judicial System: Can the poor expect a fair judgment?”, in which three of our students
won,

7.20 VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK 2015
The Vigilance Week (26th October to 31st October, 2015), was celebrated with utmost
dedication and devotion at NIT Puducherry. The CVO of NIT Puducherry co-ordinated the entire
week.Pledge was taken by all employees and students of NIT Puducherry. The formal meeting
including the Director, Registrar, faculty members and staff was conducted on 29th October
2015 and was conducted by Dr. G. S. Mahapatra, CVO NITPy, who formally welcomed all the
faculty and staff members, and acquainted them with the relevance of the day. It was followed
by an oath taking event, awareness lecture and elocution event on the topic. The Elocution
event highlighted and addressed issues and suggestions pertaining to improvement at NIT
Puducherry, by using technology in different domains like: adopting a transparent approach of
governance
A Debate competition for students on the topic “Role of Youth in preventing
Corruption” was organized by the Literary committee on 28.10.15. Every student took part in
the competition with full enthusiasm and vigour, and contributed every bit to this great
endeavour and interactive forum. Along with discussing about good Global and corrupt free
Indian governance they also suggested dynamic points about strategies to bring about a
revolution In the Indian beurocracy and administration. The Debate competition was conducted
by Dr. S. Mishra.

7.21 2nd CONVOCATION
The second convocation of NIT Puducherry was held on 27th February 2016. In this
occasion, Lt. Gen. A.K. Singh, Hon’ble Lientenant Governor of Puducherry graced the occasion
as Chief Guest. The function was presided over by Dr. (Mrs.) S. K. Pandey- Director NIT
Puducherry. The senate members were also present for the distribution of certificates and gold
medals. Most of the graduands along with their parents were also present to receive the
degree certificates. The program was also live telecast through a link in the institute website.
The declaration of the commencement of convocation was announced by Dr. (Mrs.) S. K.
Pandey. The welcome address was given by Dr. (Mrs.) S. K. Pandey followed by the report on
the institute. The degrees were awarded by the chairperson senate and the gold medals by the
Chief Guest. The pledge was administered by followed by, Lt. Gen. A.K. Singh, Hon’ble
Lientenant Governor of Puducherry his address to the graduands. The chief guest lecture was
also very motivating with full of morals. The departmental gold medals were awarded to Amrita
Ghosh -Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Deepan M- Department of
Computer Science and Engineering and Monika S- Department of Electrical and Electronics
Engineering. The overall topper of the institute was awarded to Amrita Ghosh- Department of
Electronics and Communication Engineering. The closing of the convocation was declared by
the chairman followed by lunch.

The newly built Science & Humanities Block, Guest House and Girls Hostel of NIT Puducherry
was inaugurated by the Lt. Gen. A.K. Singh, Hon’ble Lientenant Governor of Puducherry who
graced the occasion as Chief Guest in the presence of Dr. (Mrs.) S. K. Pandey- Director NIT
Puducherry and Faculty and Staff members of NIT Puducherry on 27th February 2016.
The Science and Humanities block consists of three floors. Each floor is
furnished with proper ventilation and good quality equipment’s. The flooring is made up of
marbles/tiles and in each class room the centralized Air Conditioner provision made. The
students are made to be seated comfortably and listen to the class properly so the two
seater/three seater desk & benches are allocated in class room which is in good condition. In
each classroom, the green board is made and for the power point presentation the projector
connection is also made. For each department Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant
Professor/Faculty/Staff separate room is allocated. The library is situated in second floor with

the facility of Centralized Air Condition. Institute has started the purchase process for the
different required furniture for Faculty/Staff room, Library and Laboratory.
All department laboratories are fully accomplished in the Science and Humanities
block, the three phase power supply is supplied to the entire laboratory and all equipments are
arranged in proper manner to conduct the lab in the effective manner.
The hostels will be self-sufficient in power sources including solar panels & water
conservation techniques would be implemented in the campus. The hostel is well furnished
with proper ventilation and good quality equipment’s. Nearly 300 (Three Hundred) students
are staying in the hostel in dual occupancy. Inside the hostel campus itself, a temporary shuttle
court is made for the student’s sport purposes.
The Guest House block consists of three floor structures. Each floor is furnished with
proper ventilation and good quality equipment’s. The block consists of nine Single bed rooms,
sixteen Double bed rooms and three Suite rooms.

9. FINANCE
During the year 2015-16, NIT Puducherry received grant in aid of Rs.4504 lakh from
Ministry of Human Resource Development. Apart from this the Institution received
academic receipts of Rs.2.66 Crore besides receipts like interest etc.
10. ACCOUNTS
The annual accounts of the institution for 2015-16 were prepared in the revised
format of accounts prescribed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. The audit
of accounts was conducted by the Director General of Audit (Central), Chennai during
