CRAYONS TO COFFEE CUPS
I Found Jesus In His Name
Two weeks ago, I began a series of articles about
finding Jesus in everyday places and/or things. As
I was shopping on Amazon recently, I accidently
came across the above plaque. As I gazed upon
this, a flood of memories came rushing in. I re-
member seeing this on my teacher’s desk when I
was in third grade at St. Charles Catholic School in
Wisconsin. Because I was too embarrassed to ask
my teacher what this “coded message” meant, for
a long time, all I saw were little sticks oddly placed
upon a board. Finally, toward the end of the
school year, I asked my teacher what this plaque
meant. With a look of surprise on her face, she
immediately said, “It’s Jesus.” I remember indicat-
ing to her that I don’t “see” Jesus. She gave me
clear instructions (as teachers do) to step back,
close my eyes, think of Jesus, then open my eyes
and really focus on the plaque. When I did as she
instructed, the look that appeared on my face and
my response brought her to tears. I exclaimed that
I finally can “see” Jesus!! How many times in our
lives have we had to take a step back, close our
eyes and think of Jesus? At first you may not see
Him. Even though someone tells you that He is
there. Sometimes we are too embarrassed to ad-
mit that we just don’t see Him. Even if that is the
case, Jesus never wants us to stop searching for
him. Sometimes all it takes is for us to refocus our
eyes in order to “see” Jesus. –Sherrie Clutts DRE
