St. Anselm’s Abbey School65th Invitational Basketball TournamentCoach Brian Murphy Basketball Court
As Headmaster, and on behalf of the students and faculty of St. An-selm’s Abbey School, it gives me great pleasure to welcome all of our guests to the 65th Annual Invitational Basketball Tournament. We are proud to host the longest running annual high school basketball tourna-ment in the Washington area. The Tournament was started in 1948 by Fr. Hugh Monmonier, O.S.B., Headmaster of the school, formerly known as Priory School, and Coach Robert Dwyer, first and legendary basket-ball coach of the school. The St. Anselm’s Tournament has evolved over the decades but has remained true to its original purpose to provide a competition for smaller schools in the Washington metropolitan area. It is designed for teams with excellent basketball programs to meet in friendly and spirited competition. Team spirit, true sportsmanship, and enthusiastic fans are traditional hallmarks of this event. We look forward to hosting another exciting tournament this year.
We are deeply grateful to the St. Anselm’s Parents Association, in particular Norma Ruiz and Gail Swentkofske, for organizing and staffing this annual event. Many thanks to our financial underwriters and to the businesses who have advertised in this program. We thank our Athletic Director Mr. Jose Padilla, our varsity basketball coach Mr. Paul Gre-naldo, the basketball coaching staff, Dr. Herb Wood, the judges and the referees.
I hope Tournament 65 will be a memorable and rewarding experience for both players and fans. Thank you for your support. Let the games begin!
