Homemaker Day Homemaker Day Chairman Linda Fryman extends her appreciation to all who participated. It was a beautiful sunny day and many friends came out to support the Harrison County Homemaker Community Day festivities. Thank you!

Annual Meeting The fantastic Barbara Browning kept the audience members on the edge their seats during her insightful and often humorous presentation, The Garden of Plenty. She was lighthearted, yet impactful, as she gave the tools for good character using an acrostic from the word BROCCOLI: Benevolence - Care and Share Reliability - Do what you say you will Observant - Seek Opportunities Courage - Be Bold, Don’t be afraid of your flaws Commitment - Commit fully Optimism - Keep your perspective positive Laughter - The best medicine Intensity - Be more intense; energetic Special recognition was given to 50 year members Mildred Cameron, Joyce Rainey, Geneva Roark and Ruth Thompson. Respectfully, the following were remembered during a brief memorial service: Joyce Ernst, Charlotte Northcutt, Rhea Krebs, Joyce Smith, Ruby W. Neal and Betty J. King. Bluegrass Area President Pat Skinnemoen installed Linda Fryman as the newest Harrison County Extension Homemaker President. The County Educational Chairmanships for Cultural Arts & Heritage, Family & Individual Development and Management & Safety were filled by Carol Banfield (2nd term), Betty Sue Grubb and Janie Whitehead respectively. Sincere gratitude is extended to Harlene Welch, immediate past President. Also, many thanks to Educational Chairmen Carol Banfield (Cultural Arts & Heritage), Nelda Ritchie (Family & Individual Development) and Anita Mitchell (Management & Safety) for their commitment to and achievement in their positions.

SCAM Alert

Beshear: New Medicare Card coming in the Mail, Don't Fall Victim to Scammers More than 900,000 Kentucky Medicare recipients to receive new ID cards starting soon

To receive scam alerts from the Kentucky Office of the Attorney General text KYOAG Scam to GOV311 or

FRANKFORT, KY. (May 24, 2018) – Ahead of the federal government mailing more than 900,000 Kentucky Medicare recipients new I.D. cards, Attorney General Andy Beshear is warning enrollees to be on the lookout for scams. The mailing of the new cards, which are designed to help minimize fraud by replacing members' Social Security numbers with 11-digit I.D. numbers, are triggering scam warnings across the nation. Kentuckians are expected to start receiving the cards in their mailbox starting soon. Reports indicate scammers are pretending to be Center for Medicare and Medicaid employees calling enrollees and claiming they need to provide personal and financial information or a payment in order to receive, replace or activate their new card. According to Medicare.gov, as long as an enrollee's address is up-to-date, they do not need to do anything to receive their new card. To update an address, visit your My Social Security account or call 800-772-1213. (2018, May 24.) Retrieved https://ag.ky.gov/scams/Pages/Current-Scam-Alert.aspx

Happy Father’s Day June 17th Father’s Day Facts 1. Sonora Dodd (1882-1978) from Spokane,

Washington, first suggested a “Father’s Day” in 1909 after listening to a Mother’s Day sermon. She hoped to establish a day to similarly honor her father, William Smart, who was a widowed Civil War veteran with 6 children and a farm. Finally, in 1972, President Nixon signed the holiday into law.

2. Over 87 million cards are sent each year on Father’s Day, making it the 4th most popular day for sending cards.

3. There are about 152 million males in the United States. Of these, 70.1 million (46%) are fathers.

4. When fathers are involved in their child’s education, the children perform better in school, learn more, and exhibit healthier behavior.

5. A new study shows that fathers who share household chores with their wives tend to have more ambitious daughters as well as daughters with more broad definitions of gender roles.
