operation: SPS at Sholapur

and Raichur should trigger

when total flow on 765 kV

Sholapur-Raichur 2*S/C line

crosses 1500 MW from

Sholapur to Raichur and

remains above 1500 MW

for 2.5 seconds.

It should also act instantaneously when the total power flow crosses 2000 MW.

Rationale: Since both the circuits of 765 kV Raichur-Sholapur would be in service, total flow of both the circuits should be measured and the threshold value of SPS may be increased from 1000 MW to 1500 MW.

In addition to the above revisions, revisions suggested by NLDC vide letter dated 11th

April 2014 and yet not implemented shall also

be implemented incorporating the above revisions.

Notwithstanding the above revisions suggested, the following are also important.

o Improving reliability of SPS through redundant measurements, logic, communication path and end terminals.

o Use of metering core of CTs and PTs for analog measurements used in the SPS logic, particularly where the same is based on

steady state flows crossing a particular value.

o Need to cover more generators in the NEW grid so that adequate relief is available as in many instances, the antecedent

generation in many of the generators selected is already very low.

o Wiring of each SPS operation to the local substation Event Logger.

o Triggering of each SPS action and the receipt of signal at each point to be recorded in SLDC/RLDC/NLDC SCADA

o Prompt submission of data to RLDCs regarding SPS action in the prescribed format.

o Each instance of inadequate relief through SPS to be thoroughly analysed and remedial actions taken so as to have increased

confidence on the SPS reliability.
