NAIDOC week
It is NAIDOC week and we celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity for students to participate in a range of activities and to support our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. The theme for the week is: Always Was, Always Will Be, recognising that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65 000 years.
Swimming carnival
A letter was sent home last week providing information a b o u t o u r u p c o m i n g swimming carnival on Friday, 27th November. Our carnival will operate under a Covid plan which means there are a number of requirements we must meet. Alina will operate the canteen this year but students are required to pre-order food. Order forms are included in this edition of the Cryer and will also be sent home separately. Please note that families must sit separately from competitors.
Dr Cameron Stelzer visits QSC
Author Dr Cameron worked with students in Prep-Year 10 this week. Students had great fun learning the tricks of the trade from a professional and came up with some great i l l u s t ra t i on s in t he i r workshops. Thank you Dr Cameron, it was great to have you visit our school.
Remembrance Day
Today students attended the Remembrance Day ceremony held at the Town Hall, paying respect to those who have served in conflicts right around the world on the day WW1 ended.

Transition to Prep
It was wonderful to welcome our pre-prep children and families along for our first transition morning. We look forward to helping families ensure a smooth start for their child at school in 2021. Enrolment packs can be collected from the office. Our next transition morning is tomorrow from 9 am to 10:30 am. We look forward to seeing you there!
Colour Fun Run!
Our P&C committee will be holding a Colour Fun Run n e x t S a t u r d a y , 2 1 s t November, starting from 3pm. I encourage everyone to come along for an afternoon of fun, with merchandise, food and and drinks available for purchase. It is $10 to run—be prepared to get wet and coloured!
School Captains for 2021
Students nominating for school leadership positions have been provided with their application forms. They need to prepare a speech to present to the students and community members on Friday, 20th November. Following the speeches, students and staff will vote on our new school leaders who will be announced on Awards Night at the end of term.
Deck refurbishment
Thank you to Jay Dunne for a great job replacing the deck on F-Block and helping ensure the safety of our students.

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY!
Money is something that we know
is used in everyday life.
Miss Carroll’s mum has been busy
collecting all of the Coles and
Woolworths minis and sent them
out to us!
We have been budgeting and
creating shopping lists to help
support our learning. We
researched the prices of all the
items and learnt how to represent
the money values in various ways.
We have put together shopping
lists and correctly counted change
from our ‘financial transactions’
at our classroom store.
THRASS CHAMPIONS!
THRASS is an acronym for Teaching Handwriting, Reading and Spelling Skills. It is a system for
teaching the building blocks of reading and spelling. Each week we explicitly teach how to break down the
students spelling words into the correct THRASS spelling choices. The student progress with spelling was
evident with their PAT results that showed students had improved significantly from the previous year.
What a term it has been and it is already week 6! We have been working hard across the board all year but
term four is always a busy time.
During English, we have been reading and listening to a range of humorous poems. The students have
worked hard to gain an understanding of unique poetic features such as nonsense words, spoonerisms,
neologisms and puns! Not sure what these are? Be sure to ask our Year 3‐4 experts and they will pass on
their newfound knowledge. In Science, we have been looking at the movement of Earth and building our
understanding of day and night, sunrise and sunset and shadows. The students have identified features of
Earth and compared its size with the sun and moon. They each created a presentation to communicate their
understandings and findings about the regular changes on Earth and its rotation. Digital Technologies has
been a focus point for us this year. We have been expanding our knowledge of basic computer programs
such as PowerPoint and Excel. They have used their new skills throughout all their subjects and have
proven to be quite the group of tech savvy students.
